Even with all the wild, wacky and dumbass hijinks you see daily on the internet, there’s one place where etiquette is still the norm – the cigar lounge. Not surprisingly, Zino Davidoff is credited for what we call “cigar etiquette” today. He even wrote a book about it, and I can’t think of a better person to write such a book than Mr. Davidoff. Zino was the quintessential “gentleman,” from his grooming, to his clothes, right down to the way he smoked his cigars. I’m talking “Old World” manners; when men opened doors for women, and removed their hat when entering a room. Though some of those customs have survived, today anything goes. But step into a traditional cigar lounge and you’ll think you stepped into the Bizarro world. I’m not saying that cigar lounges are for the stiff upper lip type; quite the contrary. That said, there are some guidelines that will help you become a better cigar smoker. Even some of Mr. Davidoff’s rules are a little too Victorian by today’s standards. For example: holding the cigar between your index finger and thumb, rather than your index and middle fingers. Zino felt the former method was more “elegant.” He may have had a point, but the way you hold your cigar is pretty much considered your own business. Another is removing the band so as not to “advertise” how costly (or cheap, for that matter) your cigar is. Though many cigar smokers still apply this rule, it appears to have faded over time, since a lot of other smokers want to know what you’re smoking. It’s also a great conversation starter. More often than not today, the band comes off when the ash gets too close. Continue reading

According to an informal poll I conducted five minutes ago expressly for this article, 95% of cigar smokers enjoy an ice cold glass of suds alongside their favorite stogie. Among those who responded, some prefer their puro with a couple generous fingers of whisky, rum or tequila. Others prefer a well-made cocktail. Still others take their smoke with wine, port, brandy or cognac. Continue reading
Famous Smoke Shop, the nation’s leading discounter of premium cigars has officially opened the doors to its new state-of-the-art cigar “superstore.” The new cigar store is located at 90 Mort Drive in the Forks Twp. section of Easton, PA. Their new cigar store is so big that the entire former cigar store would fit inside the new store’s humidor alone! The new cigar store features a comfortable new lounge. It also features the adjoining Leaf cigar bar and restaurant which are scheduled to open in time for Famous’s annual Cigar Expo on August 26th.
The solid wood doors are almost intimidatingly tall, and the first thing you notice is the beautiful polished wood and glass décor with large windows so you can see practically all of the cigars on display. Most of the cigars in the humidor are displayed in luxurious glass cases. Cigar accessories and humidors are on display in the main entrance area outside the humidor. Cash registers are also located in both the humidor and the main entrance.
One of the best features of the new cigar store is the increased size. This permits customers to move about more freely. The store was also designed to accommodate in-store events so manufacturers can display their cigars, swag, etc. in a more comfortable and professional setting.
To enter the store, customers pass an outdoor seating area where, weather permitting, cigar smokers can sit and enjoy their cigars al fresco, while enjoying a cool relaxing drink from the Leaf bar. An additional patio is set adjacent to the Leaf restaurant where food from the eatery’s wide-ranging menu will be served. Moreover, smoking is permitted throughout the entire facility.
