Tastes like Helix 550

Mild creamy taste with notes of cedar and a little greeness. I smoked them right upon arrival. Good burn and adequate construction and draw.Tastes like Helix 550 and I would buy again.

Good for the price, maybe not for everyone.

Tried one of these in a sampler. I can understand why someone would say they were good everyday cigars, but I'm not sure they're for everyone. It starts out as a very mild, subtle Dominican smoke with much less flavor than it might seem. As the smoke went on, the flavor got more obvious and intense, very much what one would expect from a good Dominican. But, it's a very dense flavor through almost the whole cigar, more like the kind of intense flavor you get when you reach near the end of a typical cigar. So, that's either a good thing or bad thing depending on your tastes. Me, personally, I thought it was a little too strong, but by no means a terrible cigar.

Not bad for the price...

I tried a Toro Maduro that came with one of the Famous Samplers. I burned it while cooking on the grill and enjoying a cup of coffee on my back patio. I believe mine was a bit dry, I would have been smart to age it for a few months, but I figured I'd go for it anyway. I noticed a tight, but smokable draw at first. I was only a bit annoyed. The burn was excellent and it stayed lit between me running in and out of the house for 5-10 minutes between puffs at times. The ash was white and held until I knocked it off. The flavor was definitely mild, but not bad. I think I would buy these for an occasional quick burn. Because of the price, I didn't mind throwing out the last 2 inches when I had to take the food inside. I'm going to keep a few handy for my non-smoking buddies to try, after some aging, of course.

One of my favorite smokes...

One of my favorite smokes. There's a very tasty, medium-spicy flavor that lasts through the entire smoke. Burn and construction are near perfect and consistent. The only negative is the occasional hard draw stick that is still very smoke-able. And even though my wife is not a cigar smoker, she will occasionally take a draw on my cigars. She says this one is her favorite! I will definitely be buying more of these.

Good Smoke :)

Well coming from a Guy that only smoke's Macanudo Gold Label. This is a pretty Good Cigar. It starts out as a nice even burn, Mild to Med. Creamy taste and stayed together pretty good for 45 min. smoke w/ bullit cut. From 1-10 I give it a 7.5 rating. Definitly will buy more.

Great taste - spicy

Fantastic smoke for the price. Taste is outstanding, mild to medium and very spicy, hint of cedar. Leave a great after taste which I think in the pro circles is called the 'dance'. One of my favorite smokes.

what a difference a day makes

I bought a bundle of these on auction for a measley 33.00 a year and a half ago and had the audacity to complain that the cigar was tight and flavorless. Arthur gave me a little background in his history with this cigar, so I figured, what the heck, I'll stick them in the bottom of the incubator and see what happens. Wow! what a differnece a year makes. The Pierce hs turned into a very easy drawing, medium boddied, spicey cigar. I have learned that it is a useless excercise to take a cigar out of its box and judge it. After 12 month you have a totally different breed of cat. The Pierce is a great exasmple of what a little agin will do. I'm buying a couple of more bundles for this time next year.

Not a good cigar

This cigar has almost no taste.
I tried two out of the bundle of
cigars. I will throw the rest in
the garbage pail.
Interestingly, the other reviews indicate
that this brand of cigars was all right at
the beginning of this decade, and then the
quality deteriorated.

What happened?

Maybe I just got a bad example, or maybe my taste buds were taking the day off ... but my experience with this one was not a good one. Started out fine, a very good looking stick, good burn, good draw, and a few puffs of good mild flavor, but then an extreme bitterness appeared, grew, and never left. Wrapper also came apart and started peeling away. Tossed it about half way through. After reading the other reviews, I would probably try it again, just to see if this was a 'freak' .... sure hope so. But this one experience left a bitter taste in my mouth, literally.

Bad first date

The Dominique is like woman you meet in a bar. Middling attractive, so you buy her a drink and start a conversation, but by the second drink you discover you have nothing in common and you wasted your money.
I tried a bundle of the #74s they appeared to be dry from the start. That might explain the bland uninteresting taste. In fact it was sort of like sucking on a clogged straw. If there was a classification called Too Mild thats where Id put it. On the positive side the burn was okay, but as I just hinted the draw was constantly tight. I could go on but whats the use. There are better cigars out there for the same or less money.

Extremely disappointing.

Inconsistent burn and completely nondescript (and rather unpleasant) flavor. Not recommended. If you're looking for a bargain, try a Leon Jimenes or a Oliva Classic O (while you can still get them) instead.

Mild is an Understatement

I've been going through my collection for the last couple of weeks trying to smoke the "what the heck did I buy this for anyway?" cigars.
This one has been in the humidor for about six months. I found that it burned well; was of acceptable construction; and was consistent all the way through; but I have to say, it had little if any taste. If you want to smoke a cigar just to be smoking, this one is fine, if you want to smoke a cigar for the flavor, it isn't.

Hell No

Where do I begin with these? I got 2 natural wraps and 2 "Maduros". I put the word "Maduros" in parentheses because I think the wrapper is dyed. After smoking about 1/3, my fingers were brown and I could rub the color off the wrapper. I admit, I'm not a "pro" cigar smoker, but that has never happened with any other Maduro I have smoked, and looking it up I saw that dyed wrappers will very often do that. Ok, now for the natural wrapper version: it tastes like warm air. What an incredible ripoff for $70 a bundle.

Needs More Flavor

This cigar has everything I like except flavor.
Construction, draw, burn and appearance are all a 10. But the flavor is in the basement. Maybe if they added some Honduran Tabacco or something, I don't know. Anyway, I won't buy anymore.

Soooooooo mild, it almost unbearable to smoke. It didn't have much flavour, and it was a tad sweet. Overall, not bad, I'm not complaing, I got them for 7 bucks. I got a 5 pack and had one, but I'll hold the rest of them for non-smokers.

The claros are the best Dominique cigars I've had so far. Smooth flavor and very enjoyable. Similar to the Olor Paco - although the Olor Paco has a little more flavor. The question is whether these are worth the high price. I'd buy them on sale.

Good at the beginning, bad at the end

A nice, but over priced maduro, at the start of the smoke. About halfway through turns acrid and bitter. Aroma and taste at the halfway mark has overtones that are not pleasant, remarkably like being down wind of a distant stockyard.
Good at the beginning, very unpleasant at the end.

Just OK now

Have to agree with another smokers review on 11/11/03. I have smoked at least 100 Madisons made by Fuente. The last two bundles were made by General cigar. The just don't burn good. They lost a little in taste too. Price needs to drop. Famous tell me it takes time with a switch like this. Time is running out. The best thing for Famous Smoke to do is have Fuente produce the Dominique again. I will probably just spend the money for a Fuente product now.

Not what they used to be...

I used to buy Dominiques quite often when the Fuentes were making them for FSS... and always really enjoyed them. However, now that General Cigar is making them they're not what they used to be! Overall construction is less than it used to be and the flavor is no match for the old Fuente version.
Don't get me wrong, they're not *bad* per se, just average and, well... plain. I used to consider the Fuente-made versions premium cigars that came in bundles... these General-made ones are defintely true bundle cigars... only problem is, they don't really have a bundle price tag (i.e. they're too expensive for what you get!)
Won't be buying them again unless they price drops to a level proportionate to their quality. Too bad too... feel like I lost a mainstay! Oh well....

OK

The Maduro is better than the Naturals. However, this smoke just lacks excitement. It is OK - the flavor is ho-hum. For the price, there are much better alternatives. Don Mateo Maduro is much better and cheaper. Private Stock #11 and Leon Jimenes are great Maduros. This one is not.

Not Bad

Just OK - Burn was perfect, draw was average. Taste was nothing exciting. Had a couple good drags - but last inch and half was hot and not very enjoyable. I wouldn't buy again. There are better choices for the price. I've had better Value Line Cigars. Baccarrat Rothschild, Troya Rothschild, Romeo Julietta Bully are better Cigars and around the same price. Go Figure.

I was persuaded to try this cigar during a visit to the FSS retail shop. I'm so glad I consented. Nice change of pace smoke.

When I first started smoking cigars in the 70's claros were very popular. Not sure why they (claro wrappers) fell out of favor. This is a nice mild smoke with a unique flavor because of the wrapper. Good aroma, and nice flavor. Get ready to answer lots of questions about why your cigar is green!

GREAT everyday cigar!!!

Since I can't smoke in my office, I use the Dominque as my "pacifier", chewing on it all day long, occasionally cutting off the chewed end. At the end of the day, I usually have half of this cigar left, and I light it and smoke it on the way home. It's a smooth, fairly mild smoke, but taste really rivals more expensive premiums.
