Bad Burn and Construction

This is a very tasty cigar, but the construction and burn are consistantly BAD.

This review was written about El Credito Churchill by MikeT of NH on August 10, 2008

Bad, Bad, Bad

I was really excited about getting these because of the rating, but when I got them they were a disgrace. They are all crooked and when I smoked one there was no draw. They are very tightly packed, have big hard knots in them and cannot be smoked. Now they have been in my humidor for about 4 months and almost still the same: hard, most have knots that prevent you from smoking them. I should have returned them but I didn't know better. Only 1 out of every 4 or 5 is smokable, but even then, they taste bad, harsh and are a total waste of your money.

OK cigar but still undecided

When another review compared it to the Montesino Napoleon Grande, it was pretty correct. Yes, they are very UGLY!!!!!!! Horrible veiny wrappers that are thin and can tear easily. Draw is good but they have plugged while smoking them but nothing to serious. Burn is good, no problems yet from them. Flavor is OK, not as good as Montesino Napoleon Grande. But for the price what do you expect. Overall the Montesino are better but these are an OK cigar.

tasty buggers

For a cheap cigar these are great, strong and spicey. They get a bitter taste in the middle but soon turn sweet,a truly enjoyable smoke.I made this one last for an hour. Will buy a box to hand out after the birth of my first grandchild in November they are that good.Buy a 5 pack and see for yourself.

Long-Time Go-To Cigar

Have bought these on and off over the years. The more cigars I smoke, the more I appreciate this little cigar. I really like the nedium-full taste, easy on the pepper, that this smoke gives. A great 30 minute cigar, in the backyard or in a restaurant. Favorite is the maduro wrapper in the entire line.

Excellent

I bought this cigar based on user ratings. I was not disappointed. Excellent taste and a fine crafted cigar. Med-full bodied. Long smoke. Only negative is I found it a little tight on draw.

This review was written about El Credito Monarch by Dale Larsen of  on November 30, 2006

A harsh taste compared to the Monarch

I smoke El Credito's dailey. I have been pleased with all but two. The Senadora and the Habernaro seem to be made with a greener leaf and are very harsh tasting compared to the rest of the line. I was disappointed and will stick to the great tasting Monarch or Churchill

Great Smoke

This is one of the best. I have smoked all the major brands and find myself pulled to this cigar every time I open my humidor. Just ordered another bundle of 20 today and will keep these stocked in my collection. I actually like this better than the La Glorias.

Great inexpensive smoke! Super flavor and aroma.

This is a great smoke for the price. Well made, super dark with a great spicy burn. Smoked it down to the nub.

The best smoke

Brothers and sisters and lovers of the fine cigar leaf,I am an advid smoker of The LaGloria Cubanna Brand , being a blues musician I can't always afford the real thing so ElCreditos are the perfect relacement alway right. as good as The real thing..Smoke on www.bluestown.20fr.com

This review was written about El Credito Small Churchill by HowlinBlind-MuddySlim of Bluestown on March 23, 2005

Not worth the price.

Tried these because I heard they were basically La Gloria "2nds". Very disappointed with the construction, taste, burn, just about everything. Have had the balance of the bundle in the humidor for about 6 months now. A little better taste, but still overpriced for what they are. Save your money and buy the La Glorias.

This review was written about El Credito Rothschild by Bill of Boulder Junction, WI on June 14, 2004

thin wrapper, soft capsule, good value smoke

The Super Habanero is a poor man's Montesino Napoleon. I smoked Fuentes fumas for years until they became outrageously expensive (they went from $18 bundle to $35+). The Super Habanero is thin skinned, but avoids the harshness of most dollar cigars. They are not peppery or hot, registering a cooler smoke than most cigars in this category. They are loosely packed, like the Fuentes, which means happily that they are not likely to be plugged. All in all this is a smoke that provides sound value coupled with a satisfactory tasting experience. They are best directed at those who smoke 4 to 5 cigars a day. They have a place in that rotation.

on #no5 bundle

I sure started out complaning.I'am on my 5th bundle and i think they've all turned out to be better than the last 3 boxes of la gloris's.Just have to age awhile and put up with the minor inperfection.

This review was written about El Credito Belicoso by kw of  on January 29, 2004

they get better

You can go ahead and remove my first commit on the El Credito,i aged them for awhile and they did get better. You have to be a little gentle with them because the thin binder does want to peel off.for a bundle cigar they dont taste too bad.I've decided i rather pay a little more and just buy a better cigar, and not hassle with the binder and the burn."BUT NOT TOO BAD"

Tasty maduro at any price, but a bargain

I was pleasantly surprised with this cigar. Good amount of maduro flavor, but I did not detect any bitterness or bite in the flavor. The maduro flavor was “bright” enough to be clearly tasted, but not bitter at all. That says maturity to me, not at all “young” – impressive for a cigar that’s such a bargain. I very much look forward to trying some of the smaller ring gauge sizes of these – to get more of that tasty maduro flavor.

Hope they get better

Just got in from work out of town.Had my orders at my po box.1 box of Henry Clay Habana 2000 &Partagas Black Label & the EL Credito rothschild.Been trying to find a cheap cigar, since i've been somking about 4 or 5 a day.Tried to smoke one on the way home and could'nt keep the wrapper on.Then tried a second one later and it fail apart, and would'nt even light.Guess i'll let them age a little in the humidor and hope they get a little better---and keep looking for cheaper ever day smoke.

An EXCELLENT choice for the price and quality

Pound for pound these are great cigars dispite minor imperfections. Who needs to be a wanna-be Afficionado anyway? They're fine as it is and you know what to expect anyway..just shut up and try to enjoy one of life's little pleasures.

This review was written about El Credito Gigantes by Anson of Kauai, Hawaii on September 25, 2003

Really disappointed after reading other's reviews.

I was looking for a Maduro that I could share with my sons and got hooked by the reviewers' comments and the alledged association with La Gloria Cubana. I have always enjoyed the LGC. We found these to be consistently harsh and bitter. I won't buy them again.

This review was written about El Credito Small Churchill by Joe of Massachusetts on September 2, 2003

Good cigar, great price

This is my first bundle of El Credito's Rothschild Maduro but it won't be the last. I've smoked 4 or 5 and all have burned very evenly with a nice firm ash. The draw is smooth and easy. They aren't the prettiest or best constructed cigar I've ever smoked but they do smoke problem free. With a more colorful band and packaged in a box, these could surely sell for a much higher price. This is a good smoking, good tasting cigar at a great price. A real pleasurable smoking experience. What else could you want.

My Daily Smoke

I've been a long-time smoker of El Creditos, especially since I learned they're second-label La Gloria Cubanas. For flavor and consistency, I would put El Credito on par with the great Hoyo de Monterrey Churchills. Mind you, the El Credito Small Churchill is a cigar that I had to "graduate" to over time; their strength can sometimes be a bit much, even now. I'd been regularly buying my cigars from the competition until I received a Famous Smoke catalog in the mail. The prices simply can't be beat, the online ordering is quick & easy, and the cigars were on my doorstep lickety-split. And no, they didn't pay me to write this. Enjoy these great cigars!

Spectacular

This is truely a great tasting smoke. Lots of flavor. Smooth draw. Beautiful ash with an even burn. One of the best smokes I've had in my seventeen years of cigar smoking. LOVE the maduro wrapper.

A great cigar at a great price!

What a great tasting cigar! Everything about this cigar says it should cost twice the price they charge! I try alot of different cigars at different prices (Macanudo, Punch, Partagas, etc.) and these are every bit as tasty at half the price. Naturals are the best, but the maduros are great too! You won't regret buying a bundle of these!

This review was written about El Credito Churchill by Gregg of Wyoming on April 3, 2002

one of the best for the money on the planet

I've been buying these for years and turned all my friends on to them, never gotten any bad feedback, great aroma, even cool burn, very reasonable price.never had any problems with thin wrapper, sounds like some people need to be more carefull.

Great Smoke

This is one great smoke for about a buck a throw. The burn is somewhat inconsistant but the flavor and spice of this bargin makes it the perfect every day affordable smoke. Hard to get at times so a couple of bundles are the wise choice.

Fragile, handle with care!

I know this is a popular cigar, so I'm not going to bash it here. I read a review that stated it's wrapper was too thin, but ignored it since there were so many good reviews. Well, I learned the hard way: the wrapper is too thin. Be VERY careful when removing the cellophane, or you won't be smoking. Overall, the entire bundle seemed a little bit dry, too. Taste is OK, mine was bitter sometimes, though. After finishing this bundle, I bought a box of Quintero Robustos, for the same price. My suggestion: give Quintero a try.

For the price, wont find a better fullbody maduro

3/00 Tried all the pricier full strength maduros, they're all good, but for the money, can't beat these. Draw & burn no probs, aroma is strong & has depth. Why pay $30 more per box for LaGlorias. My humidor will always have a bundle of these.

Best kept cigar secret in the U.S.

Very pleasing taste, but not for those looking for a mild cigar. Earthy, slightly pepper. Pleasing unobtrusive aroma that does not linger.

Imperiales

I'll differ with Steve's comments below only to say that, in my opinion, the El Credito Imperiales are WAY better than the LGC firsts. I don't know who's doing what at the El Credito factory, but their namesake smokes are great. This one's an evening unto itself. Have steak and a big cab, then pour yourself a bourbon and spark this baby up. You'll be there for a while.

Good Cigar--Good Value

My usual favorite robusto/rothschild is the Punch 2Maduro, but the El Credito burned, drew, and tasted just as well. In fact, I've found more "runners" in the Punches than I have in two bundles of El Creditos, so I'd have to say that these are more consistent. A very rich, dense little cigar. Pour yourself a double-espresso and light up...

A WELL KEPT SECRET... UP 'TIL NOW!!

After trying alot of the higher priced sticks, I took a chance with some of the lesser known smokes and purchased a bundle of the El Credito line. "Famous" should keep these babies in their catalog every time! This will now be one of my regular purchases from them, even if they don't run sales promotions on them. I tell anyone I know who smokes cigars about these (and the ANDROS line, too) Great smokes, guy's!!

A premimum cigar at a reasonable price.

When I found this cigar I felt that I discovered at last the primimum I was seacrhing for at the price I could afford. It is classic in every way. Touch, Draw, Taste. Your friends will think you've struck it rich when you hand these out.

This review was written about El Credito Senadores by Tom Rusiecki of North Carolina on August 27, 1999

Excellent!

Age these for a couple of years and you'll be rewarded with one of the most rich, full-flavored, and cheap cigars you'll ever find.....but you have to resist burning them 'til they're ready. Very satisfying flavor. No different from LGC firsts.

This review was written about El Credito Imperial by Steve Ogle of Collinsville, Illinois on August 13, 1999

Overall - pretty decent smoke, good value

These are a good value, with a fine taste. The draw is sometimes tight, but not necessarily plugged. The tight draw can be overlooked by the smoke's very delicious flavor.

Excellent Value - Maduro or Natural Wrapper

Very good mixed filler cigar. Hmm...tastes like an LGC. I like to smoke these every day and anyone who smokes regularly can afford them at about a buck per stick

This review was written about El Credito Super Habanero by Mike Ashton of San Francisco, CA on July 20, 1999

If you like LGC....try these!

Tried many of the El Credito line. Sometimes I think these are better than the LGC in terms of flavor! Has some interesting, somewhat complex tastes coming through. Almost a nutty flavor with a bit of burnt coffee. Good even burn. Great overall smoke at an affordable price!

This review was written about El Credito Corona Extra by DannyO of Carmel, IN on July 4, 1999

great bargain for a full-bodied smoke

These smokes are a great deal (under $2). They have good taste, draw well and burn nicely. Wrappers are thin and easily damaged, but not usually a big deal. Try one, you'll like it.

This review was written about El Credito Rothschild by bishop of oak hill, virginia on June 20, 1999

Flavorful, smooth, even burn, tons of smoke

Good value..Quick 20-30 minute smoke..Hard to tell apart from the LGC "first". Great taste. I'll buy more. Same thing for the El Credito corona extra. Both were maduro.

This review was written about El Credito Small Corona by DannyO of Carmel, IN on June 9, 1999

Like a good smoke and a drink after a day at work.

Got a bundle from the rollers in Miami. They were fresh and the taste was great.
