Flor De Oliva Cigars

Too sweet for me!

I really like all the other versions (Gold, Maduro & Corojo) of this cigar but this one's sweet cap is just not for me...reminds me (at least flavor-wise)of a cheap drugstore cigar.

This review was written about Flor De Oliva 6 X 50 by Steve of Los Angeles on August 7, 2008

Not faultless but damn near!

I couldn't give it a bad review (not least because everyone has different taste and there is no "one cigar to suit all") but I'll say this for the monster... On the grounds that the bundle is fresh and/or well kept; it smokes like a dream. Cutting is the only potential problem if you lack a punch cutter (as I did - past tense) but aside from that my advice is to set aside an afternoon or evening and hang a "do not disturb" sign on your forehead. You won't be sorry.

WHAT HAPPENED??

I've smoked many budles of FDO 5x50's and am very pleased all around.Great smoke. Good draw, flavor, construction, ash and smoke volume. Thought I'd try the 53/4 x 43 natural. Big mistake. They taste terrible, they're bitter, hard to keep lit, burn uneven and draw hard. Maybe just got a bad bundle, but will stay with the 5x50's. They can't be beat for an all around good cigar.

Excellent value in today's economy

In today's economy, an excellent value.

This review was written about Flor De Oliva 6 X 50 by Tom O'Neal of Port St. Lucie, Florida on June 27, 2008

Overall great value.

I was really scared when I first got these. They had a really stout ODOR. I wasnt in any hurry to spark one up. So I let them sit in a seperate humidor for a couple of weeks. I pulled one out, the ODOR was gone. Upon lighting it I was surprised. Very smooth with a full draw.It was just a little too sweet for me, but it mellowed out about an inch into the smoke. The construction is solid. The draw is very nice. As I said before, these guys are a little sweet for my taste, but overall, for an everyday CHEAPER smoke, these are top notch! I will definitely buy another bundle.

What great Draw!

Ordered these as a option from Baccarat, was expecting just an OK cigar. They were a little bitter after first lighting but the smoothe flavor came around in the first inch of this Toro. The draw was absolutly perfect, the ash was two inches before the wind blew it off, and the rest of the cigar held the ash until the finish. What a great cigar for the money.

Flor De Oliva

Even burn, great taste -- enjoyable smoke

This review was written about Flor De Oliva 6 X 50 by Dennis of Texas on June 11, 2008

Excellent Every Day Smoke

The reviews of this brand are accurate, in my opinion: a very good , sweet tasting cigar that burns and draws well and is fairly consistent for under two bucks a stick. They are an excellent every day smoke.

If you're expecting (based on the ratings) this to taste like a Rocky Patel, a CAO, or a Davidhoff, you will be disappointed. However, if you want a solid, consistent, inexpensive smoke with a great flavor, give this cigar a try: for the money it is unbeatable.

I have found that the wrapper has the tendency to crack, as it is thin (and I'm keeping mine at optimal humidity and temperature), but this is not a constant problem and has never affected one of my cigars to the point where I could not smoke it.

I am very satisfied with these cigars, and suggest to anyone looking for a good day to day smoke to pick up a bundle: you can't go wrong for the money.

My perfect everyday cigar!

I had been looking for an everyday cigar to help curb the cost of my 5 a day hobby and one day ordered a bundle of the Flor de Oliva Corona's, what came next I was hardly expecting: Since trying these I have re-ordered them tons of times. They have a almost perfect construction, draw very well (I have not come across a bad stick yet!), there flavor is comparable (and sometimes better) than the premium cigars I pay 6 times the price for and I look forward to my daily Flor de Olivas much as I do any other cigar in my humidors. I reccomend this to anyone who wants to smoke premium cigars without paying a premium cigar price. For their value I would give these babies a 9/10 (but what else would you expect from such a great cigar family like the Oliva's).

Great everyday smoke

Great everyday smoke. I got a couple on the advice of a friend. The first one I had, I clipped the cap and some wrapper problems. The others I used a punch, and didn't have a bit of problems. Good flaver, mild to medium. Nice solid ash, medium draw. I'm going to get a bundle or two to keep in the humidor. Great cigar to share.

Good everyday cigar, can't beat the price.

Not bad, but sweetened...

Not a bad cigar, but know that it's slightly sweetened. (the product description is pretty clear about that) If you like slightly sugary cigars, then you'll find this one da-bomb. If you don't, you'll find it pretty good... except for the sugar. That said, the sweetness is not overpowering like some cigars. It's very subtle. Cigar has a nice firm draw, even burn, ok taste. Nothing to stop the presses over... but not bad at all for the price.

You guys with wrapper problems...

This cracking wrapper situation is easy to fix. Carefully remove the plastic by cutting it lengthwise so as not to stress the wrapper tobacco leaf. Then give the whole cigar a light coat of rum with a paint brush. I find Captain Morgan to be best so far. Let it stand for about a half hour to lose its wetness, and then cut the head and smoke away. The dry, brittleness will be all gone and the cigar will be tough and flexible. If you get a crack or tear, put a little pectin on it (get pectin at the grocery store for canning fruit).

Solid Smoke -- Best Value

Amazing consistency in taste and construction -- good burn, mellow smoke with spicey notes. I'm not sure how the Oliva factory churns these out, but with the cost of these sticks around a buck, I'm not sure why I bother with more pricey alternatives. Oh, there's better sticks out there for sure, but I have yet to smoke a 5 buck+ stick that is anywhere near 5 times better.

One of the best bundles you'll find

For those of us that smoke a lot of cigars, it's nice to have an inexpensive cigar for a daily smoker. This one is one of the best. Very well constructed and great flavor of sweet spice. Some of these draw tight but other wise very good.

better than cigars costing double

Outside of my Dunhill Blues and Montecristos, this is a fantastic cigar...better than most cigars costing 2 to 3 times more. A consistant well built cigar. Once in a while the quality does vary. Can not be beat

Look no further...

I've smoked everything from real Cubans to Davidoffs, JRs, Fuente, Macanudo, Partagas, Romeos, and everything in between. All of those are great smokes but the Flor de Oliva is the best kept secret in the industry. Pick up a bundle and save another bundle. You'll find little, if any, difference between this $1.50 cigar and an $8.00 premium. Consistently excellent. I no longer buy anything else - this is easily my daily favorite.

Incredible bundle cigar

At a little more than a dollar a piece, this cigar is amazing. Great taste, decent construction and draw. Truly a medium cigar, will neither intimidate a novice, nor disappoint an experienced smoker. I also have had the "grand cameroon" version, which is even better, but discontinued. It is obviously not overly complex, but you can't really expect or necessarily want that in a modest cigar. Kindof makes it hard to spend more than two bucks for an everyday smoke, given the value here.

This review was written about Flor De Oliva 5 X 50 by Bill Taylor of New Jersey on November 22, 2007

Not bad...

And great for the price. Some of the other Oliva's are more to my taste, but this is great, long lasting stick. Some seem to have a bit too much *sweetness* on the cap, hiding some of the better natural flavor. The draw can be a bit tight on the Churchill size, too. Still, for this price, you can smoke several a day, and be generous handing them out to friends.

Surprisingly Good

I have never experienced this level of quality and taste for a price even remotely close to this low. They are great everyday smoke for the price-conscious cigar smoker. Try the various blends and be ready to be impressed. I'll keep a seperate humidor full of these exceptional value smokes.

Hands down my best everyday stick!

I've been a Famous-Smoke customer for a long time now. I've tried dozens of different brands, but I've got to say, the Flor De Oliva 7x50 in natural wrapper has long been my hands down daily favorite. Aside from a sampler here and there, I no longer order anything else. Why? Because they're consistent in taste, construction, and draw. The burn is top-notch. Shucks, you can get a 3" ash if you wish. They never canoe, either. If you're looking for an excellent smoke for under $2 per stick that'll put a smile on your face and that of your friends, look no further.

Smooth, medium-bodied Nicaraguan

I tried one bundle of these. The "Nicaraguan" taste was too intense, at first, but after a month of aging in cedar, they are very smooth and tasty. Enjoy!

Best bargain stick available

After aquiring a bundle of these on a whim, I marveled at how such an affordable smoke could please the palate with such an array of flavors I would associate with sticks costing two to four times the price. After aging in the humi for about eight months, I see no need to pay the premium associated with the high rated sticks for an enjoyable everyday afternoon smoke. Great Smoke!

No! Stop!

Very poor bundle! Every other stick had construction problems leading to a hot and brackish taste. Famous touts them but has many other bundles that are far better. Save your money.

Very good and consistant smoke.

These cigars give a good value for the price. A couple of them have had a tighter draw than the others. But this is a very enjoyable everyday smoke. I will always have these in my humidor. There is a pronounced sweetness at the head of the cigar wrapper. This will fade as it is smoked.

Good body, usually a good draw.

Very good medium body cigar. Smokes smooth start to finish. Occasionally rolled too tight and gives a difficult draw but usually a very clear draw.

A Must Try Cigar!!

I bought a bundle of the Flor De Oliva Giant Presidents's after hearing rave reviews about the Flor De Oliva line. This cigar was great! medium in body, nice sweet taste throughout, very consistent, even burn and a nice draw. Only had to relight twice during the 4 hours it took to smoke the monster, i thought it would be more due to it's size. I reccomend trying this brand, you will not be sorry! for the money it would be hard to beat. Needless to say I have found my new go to cigar.

This review was written about Flor De Oliva Giant Presidente by Ray of Glassboro, New Jersey on July 26, 2007

Good after aging

I bought several of these and smoked one right away. Almost never do I give up on a cigar, but that one was simply unpleasant. It had an odd, sour taste that I just couldn't get past. But I had a notion that ageing it would help. So I buried the others in my humidor. Around six months later, I got my nerve up and decided to pull out a stick. The greenness was gone and that odd taste had mellowed into something enjoyable. So if your first experience was bad, I recommend letting one age and trying again before you write off these cigars.

Same Flavor For 10 Years

I won these in an auction 10 years ago for $9.00 a bundle. Lost track of them for a number of years and found them again here. Poof! No change. Still sweet and very enjoyable!

Very impressed with this

I wasn't expecting a lot because of the price, and because of a bad experience with a different brand of cheap bundled cigars, but I was really surprised with this. I smoked one right out of the wrapper and it was very good. It burned perfectly, draw was great, and flavor was light but full. If the rest of the bundle is this good I'll order them two at a time from now on! I hesitate to say it's good for the price, because that endorses them with reservation, but they are really a great bargain (other than I might end up smoking more of them than I should).

Didn't really spark my interest

Maybe it was an off night for me, I dunno! Just didn't really care for this cigar when I tried it. Then again, I tend to like Robusto Manduro's so maybe that was part of the reason. Taste was ok, construction was borderline poor. Draw was good in my book, just didn't add up to a pleasent smoke. Price is killer, and maybe I just got an off stick. I ordered 2 more for friends and will see what they say. I'd rather smoke an OnyX Reserve Robusto even at 2x the price as I enjoy it more, which to me rivals a very good but even slighly pricier Romeo Y Julieta Maduro Robusto which had been my favorite through my very very short cigar smoking lifetime. Take my reviews with a grain of salt, but also cautious warning.

Ok, not great, not horrible!

Got this in a build a sampler bundle I put together for a friend. He ended up giving me a few of the cigars as a thank you for the help. Tried this one and have mixed feelings. When removing the label the wrap started to seperate a bit in the middle of the cigar. Construction wasn't the best on this sample I guess. Flavor unlit was appealing though, clipped the end and lit her up. Draw was good, and initial smoke was mild/medium body. Some earthy hints, not really spicy, bit woody. Acceptable to my noobie palate. Smoked half of it tonight and will save other half for golf tomorrow. Flavor improved a bit as it smoked. Think it would improve if aged in a humador. I mighta got a bumm one, I'll try again I think as they are reasonably priced.

I'm on my second bundle and I have not had a bad one yet. Firm white ash with consistent good taste. It's nice to know when you bring some to the golf course that it will smoke great. Great cigar for the money.

One of the finest value smokes around

I busted my cigar smoking chops on these, and now that I am more experienced I still enjoy these cigars every now and then. Good, burn, draw and construction for the price. There are alot of $5-10 smokes that aren't constructed as well as these. Flavors are slightly toasty with a very mild spice. Not complex but enjoyable.

Wonderful taste for an inexpensive cigar

This is one of the best cigars I've smoked for both taste and value. Burns perfectly, great construction, long ash. Only problem is a good percentage draw hard and need to be opened up.

I Like

I was first introduced to this cigar when my neighbor gave me a couple of them to try. I like inexpensive smokes (must be the Scotchman in me). I immediately fell in love with them. I can find nothing negative to say about them. Then when I found them on sale at cigarmonster.com, I ordered at a great price. I think this is my new favorite inexpensive cigar.

Good value, but...

Overall these cigars are pretty good for the price. My main problem with them though is the low quality of the wrapper. They sure won't win any beauty contests. I've even had several of them split on me; these are the only cigars in my humidor that do this. As a relatively new smoker I haven't had a chance to compare many value brands, but these are only okay as far as i'm concerned. Honestly i would rather spend a dollar or two more per stick to get a better wrapper.

This review was written about Flor De Oliva 7 X 50 by Joe of Chicago, IL on February 15, 2007

Truly a worth while bargain

While visiting my local cigar shop (after a very unpleasant experience w/CI)I saw these on the lower shelf of the Oliva section and decided to purchase 2 out of curiosity. While it may not be a Torano Tribute @ $11 a stick or an MX2 @ $7, this was a very pleasant cigar. Decent body and flavor, better than average construction and excellent draw. It isn't a complex cigar, but at this low price pt. it is an excellent companion to an evening libation.

"Old Faithful"

Me and my cigar smoking buddies have named the whole Flor de Oliva line of cigars as our "old faithfuls", since they never let us down. We often get the expensive $8-$10 smokes and are dissappointed, these are great cigars regardless of the price. I smoke a lot of different cigars, but when I want a smoke that I know will hit the spot I often pull an "old faithful" out of the humidor.

Best Cigar for the Money

My wife and I have both been fans of the Flor De Olivia Gold Torpedo's for some time. Smooth and creamy with a buttery wrapper. On my last FS oder, I asked to have a bundle of these thrown in. Hey, they were cheap :>) Big surprise, they have blown out my previous favorite budget stick, the all-American F.D. Graves Judges Cave. Look, I smoke cigars. No, not just at dinner parties with rich friends. I mean everyday. I'm not rich, so cost is a big deal. To steadily smoke many of the cigars I love, would approach the cost of a coke habit. It took me a long time to pick my favorite online cigar vendor, Famous Smoke - and it took me a long time to pick it as my daily smoker. I still love the Judge's Cave. I can feel my grandfather is nearby every time I light one. It's the cigar that put the hand rollers nearly out of business. You fat cats can extol the virtues of cigars I can't afford. Me, I care about value. So getting me to say there is a better "nickel cigar" out there than the F.D. Graves, this is a very big deal. The Natural Flor De Olivia is a nutty & rich, ultra-smooth full flavored cigar at machine made prices. It's balanced yet complex, sometimes leaving me realizing I've got a smile on my face for no good reason. They silently scoff, "go ahead and light me a third time" still smooth down at a 2" length. They don't start out hard as a dowel, and tolerate a fair amount of chomping without coming apart. In short, I think this cigar is simply of superior quality and at FS prices, a superior value. Maybe the earlier review just got a bad cigar, I've had the misfortune of bad 4 dollar cigars. My experience with these was far different, my first bundle was consistent cigar to cigar. The closest thing to it in my humidor are my Fuente Curley Head Deluxe Naturals. But they are twice the price of these Flor De Olivia's? I don't think I'll be buying many more Curley Heads, other than during road emergencies. I actually think the Flor is smoother, and has a better quality wrapper If you are searching for a 3 dollar taste at 1/3 the price, you owe it to yourself to try these.

Superb Natural with Sumatran wrapper

I'm very critical of other peoples recommendations and bundles at this price are usually given away, BUT these are superb and if much more expensive smokes were this good I'd be a happy Brit who doesnt always run to Cubans. Thank you, there may just be a God ?

FDO Toro maduro impressions.

If you like full bodied smokes, this puppy is for you. I do not reccomend this for newbies. This is a "everyday" maduro at a affordable price. I suggest to try this with coffee, they compliment each other. The robustos are a bit stronger and the larger sizes are a little milder.

One of the top 3 values of all time!

The Flor De Oliva Natural 6x50 is one of my daily go to cigars based on a recommendation from the catalog. Now it is my turn to make the recommendation! This is a great morning cigar, and is perfect in the A.M. with a good cup of joe. Spicy, caramely, savory and slightly sweet. The Sumatra wrapper is consistent and flawless, and full of flavor. You taste every penny of your money in this cigar. Mine burn dead even almost all the time after about a week naked in the humidor. I have more expensive cigars in my humidor, but I find myself reaching for these first time and time again. When I know I want a great cigar, well made, good draw, even burn....I reach for a Flor De Oliva Natural. Try a bundle, and see if you don't find yourself doing the very same thing!

Awesome

I won a bundle of these on the auction page and I am so glad that I did. I kind of discounted it at first because I'm used to the full size torpedos from Oliva. I thought that this one would be harsh becaue it was so small. Boy was I wrong. It had all of the flavor and consitency of the full size torpedos just a shorter smoke. Great when you want that flavor but don't have a lot of time.

Wrappers fall apart

So far I've smoked 3 different Flor De Oliva. The first 2 were different types and the wrapper from the maduro fell apart taking it out of the cellophane. The second was a natural wrapper and the wrapper was falling apart as I smoked it. The taste was good on both so I bought a bundle of the 6x50 natural and now the first one I've smoked looked good when I started and started unwrapping soon after I lit it and looked ugly throughout the whole smoke but tasted good. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this bundle. I'll try another but if I have the same problem it's going to have to go back or just get smoked for yard work. It's too bad because the flavor is decent.

Great Cigar!

Very good cigar. Sweet to the taste. If you like a FULL bodied smoke that will open your lungs - this is the one. I love bigger gauge cigars and this size (5X60) is just a great little smoke. Nice burn, draw and taste. The 8X66 is not bad either if you have the time to sit and enjoy this big boy!
