A completely forgettable cigar

the Helix is, at best, an adequate smoke. the draw was incredibly hard, the flavor unremarkable, and the burn uneven. while not as bad as some, it is certainly not the best, nor even close. It does not, in my humble opinion, deserve the aplomb with which it has been trerated.

Good first impression.

After hearing a friend comment on this "fine" cigar I decided to stop at the local smoke shop to give it a try.
My first impression was a good one. This cigar is good for the "beginner" that wants a consistent, full-bodied flavor that isn't too overdone, with a nice aroma and good price. The burn was a bit erratic in one, but a fine cigar indeed. It's on my list and highly recommended.

Nice begginer cigar

Bought a 5x50 tubular Maduro on whim. Very impressed with this smoke, mild and light. Smooth and cool. I normally smoke a pipe, so I kept waiting for this to get hot and/or bitter like a lot of the cigars I buy, but it never did. For once I really got my money's worth as I smoked it right down to where there wasn't much to go out. I prefer the Lonsdale size, I'll definitely be investing in a small humidor and a box of the Lonsdale Maduros

GREAT TASTE ONCE YOU GET IT GOING

This smoke had a wonderful, smooth ,mild flavor. Was a bit hard to get lit,but once I got it going,it burned very even. The draw was hard, like it was twisted inside and the end had several stems in it.Once I removed the stems, the draw improved, but then it started falling apart.Hope this is not an indication of all HELIX cigars. Will try again soon.

VERY HARD TO DRAW BUT WORTH IT

Won a 5 pack of these at a great price. Was the first thing I lit when I opened the UPS package.First look at these was very good. When I FINALLY got the thing lit,the taste was great. Was very hard to draw, but worth it as the taste was great.About half way through,it started burning down one side wich was easily fixed.Never got hot,but past halfway it started to come apart.Very mild in flavor. Was worth what I paid, but not too much more.Would never pay retail for these smokes

Daddy Like

Got a 5 pack of the Pyramids. They did not last long. I have a huge selection of cigars to choose from and frequently switch selections. Well, after I tried the first Helix XP, the other 4 were moved up in the batting order. I really enjoyed the shape, smell, and easy draw these cigars have. Have since purchased more, this time even a 5 pack of the maduro.

Very good, mild cigar . . . an exceptional value

This monster (8x54) is a very mild, smooth-drawing cigar that is an exceptional value at $2.40 a stick. Nice even burn, long ash, and produces a good amount of smoke. It's flavorful enough to be interesting, but so good that it needs to be savored. A great morning cigar--I'm going to try one while fishing tomorrow morning. Very impressive cigar that will really appeal to new cigar smokers or people you'd like to impress without blowing your budget.

Great for the price

Great pricing on this cigar. It claims mild to medium, but it's definitely on the medium side. Nice draw, good flavor. Burns a bit hot, but an overall fantastic value. Probably good for those who crave a cigar, but don't really care for the maduros.

One of my Favorites

A friend suggested this cigar to me, and I had reservations. After trying it, I must say it was great, smooth draw, nice ask, and a nice mild flavor. I plan on buying a box to make it my everyday cigar. For the price, and great cigar

Not bad considering.

This was the last cigar I smoked from the Famous-15 cigar sampler, meaning it was resting in my humidor for well over a month's time. Honestly, I didn't expect much from the appearance and that tacky band, but looks were deceiving. The smoke was creamy and the draw was nice. I had no trouble with the burn; it was nice an even. The finish was a bit rough, but I can't complain too much for the price. I doubt I'd buy anymore of these though I wouldn't hesitate to smoke another either.

Milder than Hyde Park

A true milder cigar. Compared it to Macanudo Hyde Park and CuAvana. This cigar is the mildest of the the three. Typical sweet Honduran Connecticutt aroma. Even burn. Not a lot of flavor, but some. Would buy a box for a good morning smoke.

good smoke, great price

I really like Helix cigars. The naturals are mild but flavorful enough to keep your attention. The Maduros are downright NICE, especially in this price range. I've smoked cigars that cost way more and aren't nearly as good as Helix.

Jury still out

Outstanding packing in a cedar lined aluminum tube. Well preserved. Appearance is good, well constructed, somewhat veiny leafed. First third of the smoke was delightfull with long firm ash, good flavorfull smoke, a little too easy to draw. The middle third had problems with canoeing and needed 2 relights, taste remained good. The final third was a little harsh probably due to excess draw to keep it lit despite blowing out excess build up. A good mild smoke, not in the class of a Mac. Baron Von...

Best mild on the market

This cigar has amazing flavor for its non-complex filler. It is number one on my list of mild cigars due to its overall value; Cheap, very high quality, and great taste. The smoke is a cloud of peacefully heady sweetness. With a subtle floral spice. It does end a bit harsh, due only to the fact that I smoke them 'til my whiskers and nose hairs burn. This cigar is substantially better than Ashton in my book, and for around 2 bucks per stick, IT IS the best mild on the market!

Mild and flavorful with just a hint of spice

I have not been a big fan of mild cigars until I smoked this Helix. Incredibly flavorful for being so mild, and with just a hint of spice, I could easily smoke this cigar at any time of the day or night.

Surprisingly nice cigar, very subtle, creamy

... is nicely constructed, smooth tan, almost biege wrapper with a very mild pre light aroma. But it lights easily and evenly and immediately develops a mild, sandy slightly spicey flavor, not complex, but quite pleasant. The first third smoked evenly, growing steadily richer, until the middle third was thick, creamy and rich, almost like a french vanilla ice cream, only without the sweetness and still dry. The last third developed the slightest buzz, but not enough to prevent immediately lighting another!

worth the try

i tried this smoke not because of the reviews i have read about, but the aroma i could detect from a friend of mine lighting one up. i understand everyone has different views and likes in their smoke but i do have to say, i enjoyed this smoke beginning to end. i didn't buy this cigar, it was gifted to me but i would sure as hell buy a box if i had the chance. a mild cigar with very good smoke. it had a good even burn with a rich looking ash that held strong through wind that wipped around the picnic table at work. a good solid cigar for everyday smoking.

Perfect, well-priced cigar.

This is one of the best well-priced cigars I have ever had. An outstanding buy for the price. The draw and consitency are both definite 10's. If you are a beginner or a veteran and are looking for a nice smooth cigar, look no further. Especially because the price can't be beat.

wheres the flavor ?

I got this sampler on the auction site quite cheap. I cant belive how many people like these sticks. I for one think they suck. These cigars have no flavor what so ever . I think i would had a better smoke sucking on a hot air baloon. They look good, burned even, but had loose construction. If all these people think Helix is the bomb then they should stay clear of real cigars like Olor fuertes, Nicaraos,Partagas black label etc.

aaaaaah, these are starting to get alittle pricey

These were a great find about a year and a half, two years ago. Still a good cigar now, but the price keeps going up! Nice constuction, great feel in the hand, plenty of rich smoke. A solid medium body with spiceyness and nutty undercurrents. They just need to keep the price down while this is popular to build a good following.

HELIX !! WELL WORTH THE MONEY !!

Anyone that does not enjoy a Helix brand cigar, does not enjoy cigars of any brand. The Helix brand of cigars are well worth the money you pay for a nice mild stick, that has an affordable everyday price. I have been smoking cigars for over 30yrs and find this to be one of the best cigars ever for the money. The Helix Super 8 Natural is it's flagship!!

Disappointed

Cigar had nice appearance and aroma. Really nice draw. The trouble started when I lit the cigar. Could not keep it from tunneling. Could not keep it lit, either. Was in my humidor for two weeks at optimum humidity. May have just been the occasional dud, but wont chance it when there are so many other great smokes.

My cigar shop guru gave this "a best cigar for the money" recommendation. I bought five and shared two of them with my buddies. All three of us gave this a two thumbs up. The high points? Nice flavor, excellent draw and no unpleasant after taste.

There are better everyday cigars than these

I bought a sampler of the Helix Cigars. What a waste of money. I tried one and threw the others away. They were like a cigar you would buy at a service station for less than a buck. There are other cigars out there that aare a lot better than the Helix for the same price, such as the Hamilton House line.

The Helix Line

I have had the pleasure of trying several lines of Helix. My favorites are the 652 Natural. I have smoked at least 3 boxes and each and every one has been a pleasure. The Helix XP for a Maduro has outstanding burn, consistency and flavor. It does not smoke as a Full Bodied cigar as most. For a shorter smoke the Cylinders and Tubos are simply "Outstanding". Helix has become my evening with coffee outside on the deck "special".

Great Mild Stick

Wonderful cigar. Had a 5x50 at a cigar tasting last night and was pleased. I wanted to buy a box but they were out, so the rep offered me the Tubulars plus 12 free 6x52 maduros. Great mild smoke, nice construction with no burn problems. Don't knock this or any other "MILD" cigar becuase you prefer a fuller flavor, you know it is mild when you buy them.

Awesome for a mild-medium. Better than Macanudo

I was apprehensive to try a cigar with such a non-traditional look, but this is an awesome stick. It is mild-medium, but there is a special bite with the maduro wrap. A great value as well. I was a Macanudo guy, but this cigar is too good to be true.

Nice Cigar, but very mild.

I decided to try the Helix Maduro on the reccomendation of a friend who likes them very much. I found it to be well made with a decent and even burn. I was disappointed though to find the Helix to be a very mild cigar. It was over-powered by the bourbon I was sipping. I prefer a little more flavor and "oomph" from my maduro as in the Punch or Onyx Reserve. With that said one might find it fits the bill as an early day cigar. Not a cigar I will be purchasing, but if you like a cigar on the mild side you may like the Helix. Nice price too.

Helix Super 8 is OK but not great

I usually smoke Hoya or Punch double corona maduro. Helix is bigger stick but it takes much longer for the taste to peak. The taste isn't anything special, it tastes like a cigar should but late, like half way in.
For the price I suppose it's worth it although not for Friday night or the Super Bowl.

Nice burning, mild smoke with an easy draw.

Had one these this AM outside (25 Degrees F)
with a big cup of java. What a nice surprise: as I got this as part of a large sampler I went to the site to find it's a great deal! Had a nice mild taste for a good "early day" smoke.
Only complaint-it seemed to be wrapped quite loosely so burned quickly.

Geat smoke.

I have been ordering from Famous for a year or two and am always looking for a deal. I found one in Helix 550. The draw, taste and head are the most important things in a cigar and this one delivers on all three. The price is right were it needs to be for a daily cigar smoker with a watchful wife. After seeing the packaging on the Helix series I assumed this was another fly-by-night-won't-be-around-long type cigar, hopefully this isn't the case. I was genuinely surprised at how good this cigar was for the price. While I can't say much for the Naturals, the Maduros are very impressive especially the Super 8. Authentic Honduran Flavour

This cigar will not win any beauty contest due in part of its big veiny wrapper but the taste is remenicent of Honduran cigar flavour of old. Sloppy ash but very flavourful due to its large ring size.Great for around the yard and a reasonable price accompanies this cigar. One of my buys!
