Hoyo De Monterrey Cigars

Great taste, everything else was only ok

I can't say enough about the great taste these cigars have. Flavorful and delicious, but the construction was not so great. The wrapper started peeling almost immediately, and was coming totally off by the end. Also, about 3/4 of the way down, it became impossible to draw from and I had to just ditch it. Great taste, maybe a different size would be better?

Tastes great and doesn't stink

This cigar burns, draws and tastes well, though not excellent. Consider buying again. I like the wooden box also.

Mediocre

Unpleasant after-taste, mediocre flavor.

NICE SMOKE FROM FIRST DRAW TO LAST EXHALE

THE ONLY THING BETTER THAN YOUR PRODUCTS ARE YOUR PRICES. KEEP 'EM COMING.

Great Cigar

I bought this cigar on impulse and I'm glad I did. Great draw, even burn and from the few that I have had so far, they appear to have been rolled by a master roller. I truly enjoy this little beauty and will definitely be buying more once I finish the current box.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Robusto by Kosta K of Easton, PA on March 23, 2008

Wonderful rich flavor in a small cigar

This one surprised me. If you want a small cigar with a rich flavor profile that you'd only expect from from a lager size, this is it. Construction is solid, burn even and great medium to full flavor. Highly recommended.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Sabrosos by Jeff of Charlotte, NC on March 12, 2008

Not long filler!

The descripeion said 'fully-aged long-fillers', so I bought 'em. It's rare to find long-fillers in such a small cigar. I got 'em home and smoked one. It wasn't bad, but harsher than I expected. Also, it wasn't very firm. So when I got done with it, I put it out and busted it open--short filler! Not a terrible smoke, but it definitely pales in comparison to any long-filler cigar at the 36 ring guage. I've tried many short-filler small cigars, and none are quite satisfying. I wouldn't buy these again.

Over priced but good cigar.

I bought a five sample pack. Good looking cigar, made well and drew well. Cost a little more than I want to pay for a cigar.

Not Bad but Not Great

Not a cigar I would rush to buy more. It's just alright.

Good! Good! Good!

Nice little cigar with great taste and aroma! A good 30-45min smoke. Well worth every penny.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Rothschilds (Cello) by G. Delgado of Kennesaw, GA on October 25, 2007

Great cigar! Great price!

I've only had one of these but it was very well constructed with an even burn and a smooth taste. I've just bought eight more from this line to try. If they're anything like the first I'm sure they'll go quick.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Robusto by G. Delgado of Kennesaw, Ga on October 18, 2007

Great cigar!

This is a fantastic cigar. The best tasting cigar I've had yet. Burns very well. I've had 2 or 3 suffer from a hard pull, but that is out of 200 or 300 cigars. I can't stress how much I believe this cigar is the best bang for the buck.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Governor by Phil Mercurio of PA on July 24, 2007

Very nice rich cigar.

I often switch between these and the Hoyo Governors. I believe these to be a little more full bodied and would rate them as more on the full side rather than medium compared the the Governors. I like them because they are a great tasting smoke without being overwhelming. They are very consistant burning leaving a pleasing long ash. Like the Governors they smell delicious!

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Estelo Tubo by Ed Hemen of WA on July 15, 2007

Smoked these for years one of my favorites

Round even flavor finishes nicely. Good ash to the end. Some odd wrapper lifting once in a while and occasional but rare hard pull issues. Some would rate it full bodied I say more medium too full.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Governor by Ed Hemen of WA on July 15, 2007

Very nice all around

This was a very nice smoke all around. It has a full body, easy draw, good ash, and consistent quality. It has replaced my favorite, which was Punch Rothchild Maduro. They are similar, but the Hoya is a slightly better quality and more consistent.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Rothschild 5 Pack by Mike of San Martin, CA on June 27, 2007

Earthy and spicy, wonderful smoke

One of the best medium to full strength cigars I've had the pleasure of. Medium draw with no bite. Finishes nicely.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Rothschilds by Scott Morehouse of GA on April 24, 2007

Horrible draw

Perhaps I got a bad one, but almost got a hernia trying to suck some smoke out of this thing. Smoked about half of it and then gave up. Taste was not all that hot either, but that may be just me--I was sucking so hard on this piece of wood, maybe my taste buds stopped working.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Rothschild 5 Pack by Tim of Wisconsin on April 13, 2007

Disappointed

The Largo Elegante Maduro was given a rating of 88 by CA in the economy-priced cigar class, so I thought I'd give the natural version a try, as well. It's a nice enough cigar, I suppose, but not what I'd hoped it would be. My experience has been that it's hard to find a really good cigar in that 34-38 ring size category and, after sampling the Largo Elegante Natural, it still is. Oh, well...

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Largo Elegante by Brian of Minnesota on March 20, 2007

One of the best Maduros around

If you like a good Maduro cigar, then I highly recommend these. The Jose Gener line is one of the best Maduro's I have had. The price is always reasonable as well.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Churchill by Ray of C.C. FL on March 14, 2007

An excellent little cigar

These cigars are little, but still have the excellent flavor that the Jose Gener's do. A great cigar for the price. A must buy when I get low on small Maduro's.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Sabrosos by Ray of C.C. FL on March 14, 2007

pretty good cigar and fabulous draw

I have only had a few Honduran Hoyos as we can burn Cuban crops all we want down here but I was impressed with this big draw med/full bodied smoke. I was worried by all the reviews that canned the construction. However it was one of the better cigars I tried from Honduras. I am going to order a box and hope the promo 3 pack was not rolled by a master and the rest by beginers.

USED to be my only cigar, in the 1970's

Years ago my wife would send me boxes of the Hoyo Churchills while stationed in Germany. In those days I don't think you could find a better cigar, especially where taste was concerned. I went away from Hoyo for a time as the burn and construction began to lag severely. Recently, I ordered a box of Churchills hoping things had improved. Well, in my humble opinion the Hoyo brand has continued its' downward spiral into mediocrity. While the taste is exceptional, the construction and burn have fallen to poor. What a shame, for a once truly great full bodied cigar. It gives me no pleasure to rant about a cigar, that years ago, I would have defended as one of, if not the best cigars, I had ever experience; but, no more.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Churchill by Dave of Kentucky on March 1, 2007

Consistently Enjoyable!

If you want a cigar that is going to give you the same quality burn, taste, and overall enjoyment, Hoyos live up to the reputation. Both the natural and maduro wrappers are winners. There are cigars that taste great, but you have to fight with it to burn correctly and vice versa. It is nice to have a cigar that you know will give you enjoyment every time- and for a very attractive price. The 5-pack deals are absolutely sweet!

Toss out your vanity & Don't spill the beans

Looking for a panatela sized smoke that's flavorful, consistant, and downright economical? > Considering draw, construction, burn, etc - These little sticks are worth 3 times the price. Don't burn your fingers!!!

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Petit by Larry of U.P. on November 9, 2006

Great smoke, not so harsh

This is a great smaller cigar with plenty of taste yet not so harsh like other smaller sized brands. Great burn ,great price, very fine wrapper. Will buy again with no regrets.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Petit by Doug of PA on September 13, 2006

Blah and tough draw

One of a sampler. Unimpressive. Tight draw and a hint of perfume -- indicating a young cigar even though it had been in my humidor for about a month. Not a bad smoke just nothing special.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Robusto by JBP of California on August 20, 2006

This cigar is awsome

This cigar burns slow and has a rich flavor. I passed a few cigars to my buddies and they loved them as well.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey President by Jaime Vera of Tallil, Iraq on August 17, 2006

Rich, flavorful, strong, but uneven

The rich aroma before lighting promised a rich flavor, which it delivered from the first puff, with a medium to full earthy flavor. The appearance was excellent, but the construction slightly off center and as a result, the burn was uneven, accentuated by a wrapper of asymmetric and varying thickness. This distracted from the experience as the cigar progressed, and after the half way point, the flavor became a bit too thick. Perhaps a shorter stick would be better (at least for me.) The ash was excellent, white and solid, until the off center burn, at which time the shape curved off to the side. All in all, a decent, rich, somewhat heavier smoke. As a note, the "Churchill" is really a Lonsdale at 6.25 x 45.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Churchill by Overworked of CA on February 1, 2006

Disappointed - sorta

Maybe I was expecting too much because of the name. The HdM maduro churchhills (5) I smoked were all a wimpy ho-hum. Not bad, just not really satisfying or particularly tasty and the draw left a bit to be desired in most of them. Like a lot of other maduro cigars, they can't hold a candle to Padrons or Sancho Panzas.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Churchill by Jim Moore of Central Florida on August 14, 2005

Great tasting smooth cigar. Very even burn.

This is a great tasting smooth cigar with an even burn that won't take all day to smoke. Great cigar, great price.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Double Corona by Pasquale Conte of New Jersey on July 14, 2005

Great little smoke!

The Oscuro is a great tasting, full but not over-powering cigar. Great flavor, and for the price of 2 bucks a stick, you can't beat it. You can find a better cigar for five times the price, but I'll guarantee you it won't be 5 times as good as this gem.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Rothschilds by Reuben Bmoutje-Bmoutje of Quatar on October 29, 2004

Draw is impossible and cigar is way too strong.

I tried the Sabrosos, both natural & Maduro. I only found two out of 50 that would draw satisfactorily and all were way too strong, kind of like the grapevine I used to smoke as a kid. With Hoyos, BIGGER is better.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Sabrosos by Harold G. Walter of Memphis, TN on October 18, 2004

Inconsistent boxes

I bought a box of these and they were fantastic, great draw, great flavor and even burn. I enjoyed them so much I bought a second box- oops big mistake. The cigars in the second box are rolled so tight they are unsmokable. After 5 or 6 cigars I was forced to trash the rest of the box. Lesson learned.

A most satisfying little smoke !

Suprisingly full of rich flavours for a small cigar. Good burn, nice draw and very pleasant aroma. Great little cigar if you want a quick smoke. I will definately buy these again.

Proof size doesn't matter!

Awesome Hoyo taste with a price that can't be beat. Don't let the small ring gauge fool you, these will satisfy. I usually smoke them on my commute home. Consistent with a suprisingly slow burn. Hoyo doesn't make a bad cigar, and with the Sabrosos, you get a respected brand for a bundle price.

One of the best cigars ever had.

For the price this is one of the best cigars I have ever smoked. It brings me to a place in which I can relax and be at peace to the world. And now of days..We all need that.... To all a good Smoke Paul

Garden of Eden

I have smoked a lot of cigars..some good some bad. But these are by far my favorite.I'm not well off but if I could I'd smoke 4 or 5 a day. They are like a Garden of Eden filled with the power to bring tranquility to one living in troubled times. I recommend this so very highly.

A REAL NICE LITTLE CIGAR

Got a box awhile ago and enjoy everyone of them. Good flavor, great construction, nice slow burn. Even gave some away, they liked them to. I would recommend them to anyone.

All-in-all Great Smoke. Can't beat the taste!

Bought a box of the Sabrosos. Out of the whole box, I only had a one or two that seemed to want to fall apart. The rest of them were perfect and consistant. Great Hoyo taste and a great value.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Sabrosos by Daniel Graham of Oklahoma City, OK on July 8, 2003

Good Taste, Bad Construction

The Summary says it all, the Largo Elegan delivers the same great consistant Hoyo taste and a great draw but the business end more times than not un-ravels. Be careful to use a very light touch with the lighter or the burn is really bad.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Largo Elegante by DAR of Seattle WA on February 10, 2003

Great Flavor

Great Flavor - Burned a little at the end - this and the Sultan are great medium cigars - hard to beat on flavor

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Governor by Mike of California on February 1, 2003

Amazing value for the price

The Sabrosos have been a staple in my humidor for a long time and have never disappointed me. Is it my imagination or are they better constructed now than they used to be. Best of all, my wife loves the smell of them and enjoys kissing me after I smoke one. : )

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Sabrosos by Dick Richardson of Seattle, WA on November 21, 2002

Good Taste, Rotten Construction

I received a Hoyo in a sampler and enjoyed the smoke, so I committed to buying a box. The taste was as fine as I remember, but the heads and caps of the cigars were cracked, peeling, and looked like a first of the summer sunburn. All in all, very disappointing.

Powerful, incredible smoke

Haven't had one of these in a long time, and was pleasantly shocked when the powerful blast of earth and burnt coffee hit me. Good God I had forgotten how good these are. Going to have to order a box of 'em.

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Rothschilds by Anthony of Brooklyn, NY on June 6, 2002

Looks are deceiving

Visually appealing but ultimately disappointing. A brutally tight draw tested my patience and I ultimately gave-up on it half way through. Too bad, not nearly as consistant as most of Hoyo's other offerings.

The cigar that people compliment.....

I have been purchasing Hoyo De Monterrey Coronas for some time. Last week they were out of coronas so I tried the Governor. What a great taste & aroma! My friends always compliment the aroma of this fine cigar. Consistent burn & draw, more so than the corona. Maduro is the way to go!

Awesome maduro for your money!!!!

Excalibur maduros are my favorite cigar by far, but I decided to buy a box of Hoyo governors, and for the money they rival my Excaliburs!!!!! Not to say they are the same smoke, but for 60 bucks a box you can't go wrong!!

Excellent everyday smoke

This little guy has become my touchstone smoke. I smoke a variety of cigars but always come back to the Hoyo Rothschild Maduro. Well made. Full flavor but not harsh. Great smoke at any price; Excellent smoke for two bucks.

A BIt Disappointed, but still a believer

I fell in love with the Hoya De Monterrey Cafe Royale just a few months ago. I purchased them from a local smoke shop and found them full of flavor with a good draw. THey are great for relaxing after a hard day or just to puff with friends. I order from famous and i think the delayed shipping time dryed them out. They were unwrapping and had a vegtable taste. But i will continue to smoke there relaxing stogies.

My all day favorite !

This is the one that started it all. I smoked a Tiparillo 30 yrs ago, hated cigars since. 6 months ago a friend gave me a Hoyo dbl corona. 4 humidors,124 different cigars and a lot of $ i still smoke 3 of these every day. The best cigar for the $ there is. Many boxs later i have yet to find a bad one. The maduro is great also.

Great Tasting Cigar

I was surprise how great tasting this cigar was. A very easy draw, didn't burn too hot, and had a pleasant amora. I have already given some to my friends who loves them. Very affordable and a great every day stogie. Has now become my number one smoke. Plus, you get a humidifier jar to boot!

This review was written about Hoyo De Monterrey Crystal Jar by Charles Burdick of Yokota Air Base, Japan on April 13, 2001

good smoke

These are really a very nice smoke but just bit vegatal , I believe they need a bit of aging and I've been told that even after a month there is a significant improvement. but I would recommend them as an everyday smoke, with very slight construction and burn issues. all around good cigar!

It doesn't get much better for Maduro kinsmen.

Of all the Maduro's out there, this is 'old faithful'.It is always consistant, rich, and full. What a Maduro should be!.Always!

...surprising...improve dramatically in humidor

When I received my first box of these I was less than delighted. Due to this I tossed them in the humidor and ignored them for a week or two...to my surprise the cigars had lost much of the "vegetal" taste and were mild to strong with a sweet after taste, versus a bite. They burned more consistently and only improved with more time in a decent humidor. Knowing this, these are a steal for an everyday smoke. Granted the Rothchilds are superior but so is their price tag. I smoke both the sabrosas, rothchilds as well as fuente's and Cohiba's...and Romeo Y Julietta's when I can!

good cigar, great price.

First tried the Governors...the Excalibur Prensado and the #1. For the price, the Dbl Maduro is a great buy but I experienced a rather tight draw my last time around..unusual for an Hoyo de Monterey as construction is normally second to none.

Excellent Cigar, Incredible Value

At under $2.00 a stick, this is a wonderful cigar. Excellent flavor, quality construction. It's not a Davidoff White Label an Avo or a Montecristo but it's mighty good and a much better value than any other cigar I've found.

Unbelievable value cigar!

The Hoyo Rothchild maduro has to have the best combination of full-bodied taste, good draw and reasonable price on the market. My new favorite when I'm not smoking an Excalibur or a Gloria Cubana.

The Churchill Mm is not as strong as a La Gloria Cubana, but the taste is excellent. I found the draw to be very tight and not at all comfortable. It is still a great everyday smoke.

As a "newcomer" to cigar smoking, I wanted to try the very best cigars made by the top companies including the cuban lines. Although the cuban Hoyo's are my favorite, it is very hard to be disappointed with this cigar. My top choice.

Highly Recommended Smoke

If you're not a maduro fan, this cigar will change your mind. Great dark oily appearance makes your mouth water just looking at it. Nice easy draw and great aromas. I never had a bad Hoyo. If you want flavors: Smoked Nuts, Chocolate and Burnt Coffee. If you got 20-30 minutes, whip one of these puppies out with a awesome cup of Java, and get lost for a while. Then go try the Hoyo Excaliber MM. WOW!
