Trendy, Top-notch Collaboration

Most cigar lovers cringe at the mention of flavored cigars. Make no mistake about these; this is not cheap, acrid tobacco covered up with an air freshner-like scent. Rocky Patel and Drew Estates have teamed up to produce a premium cigar made with top notch tobacco expertly constructed with the same high standards and consistent quality you'd expect from all the RP lines. The dark marbleized chocolate-colored wrapper is oily and slightly sticky to the touch. The slight blemishes and moderate veins on the wrapper give this cigar a particular character (no doubt intentional), but is beautifully constructed with a good cap. The dense and solid box-pressed shape gives it a good hefty feel in the hand. The pre-light draw was good. The wrapper left a pre-light impression on the lips too with a tantalizing taste of cocoa powder and brown sugar. The cigar lit up well with a decent draw. The smoke was pleasing and very aromatic, and the room quickly filled with the appetizing smell of freshly brewed mocha cappuchino. The actual taste was, however, more subdued and balanced (A hallmark of Drew Estates). Despite the sweetness of the chocolate and coffee infusion, the tobacco flavors also shined through creating a smooth, creamy mild smoke. The outer ash was medium-light grey but the filler tobaccos left a less pleasing dark ash. Long filler tobacco was no doubt used and the ash, accordingly, stayed a good 1.5in before breaking. The cigar burned good with minor problems along the boxed corners, the cigar however corrected itself well and no relighting was necessary. This smoke lasted a good 60min and did not get bitter till the last quarter of the cigar. This is a great smoke for even the most ardent cigar lovers who want to try something different, that's well made and constructed, but that isn't overwelmingly candy-like.

EXCELLENT !

Great after dinner type of smoke ... Once you try these, you'll be having an after dinner Java, instead of an after dinner mint ... Java offers both a great taste, and a great aroma !

Drew Estates does it again!!

this oddly shaped pressed little beauty is a great stick. It is well constructed, good drawing, aromatic, handsome cigar. I was a bit aprehensive in purchasing this cigar being box pressed and all. My previous encounters with box pressed cigars were poor construction, and have generally poor draw. However Drew Estates has made a premium quality pressed cigar in the Java. This cigar burns evenly, cleanly, and the ash is solid. The Java Super58 toro has a mild chocolate and coffee hint which adds to the already great flavor of this cigar. By hint, i mean unless you were looking for it you would probably be guessing what that flavor was. The only drawback to this cigar is that unless you keep drawing, it tends to need to be relit(had to do this a couple of times cause i was preoccupied and wasn't paying attention to it. Other than that, i will be keeping plenty of these in my humi....definitly one of my new favorites.

Not Good At All

I am a little disappointed with this cigar. The wrapper is lightly sweetened but that goes away after about 15 minutes. The first 1/3rd of the cigar tasted decent but after that it started developing more of a "chemical or medicinal" flavor which turned me off quickly. I smoked up to the halfway point and I just couldnt do it anymore so I put it out. I recommend that you try a single cigar first before you buy a pack.

the right cigar for any occasion, great draw,an even-slow burn, flavorful till the end, your friends will comment on the inviting aroma, prefer these over the 58 ring.doesnt burn the mouth-leaves a sweet taste on your lips up until the last puff-chocolate/coffee taste & aroma-luv it!

BURNS THE THROAT

I am a big fan of Drew Estates cigars, flavored-infused and non-flavored. I regularly smoke Acid Atom Maduros, Acid Blondies, Acid Cold Tea Infusions, Natural Dirt Torpedos, and Natural Elixers. I love the Kahlua! So I bought a 5-pack of the Java Corona Maduros based on my experience with Drew Estates and the 9.4 Java received here. I put them in the humidor for a couple of days and lit one tonight. The first 1/3 of the stick had nice hints of cocao and coffee with that good Nicaraguan filler finish. Then it started to become bitter. On the way down the second 1/2, the smoke began to burn the back of my mouth and I could not smoke any more. The finish now was all bitterness and I had to smoke a Blondie to get the taste out of my mouth. I'll leave the rest in the humidor for a couple of weeks to see it they mellow. If the next one is like this first, I will throw the rest away.

In due time this cigar will be a highly rated smoke. Great Taste, Easy Draw, A true Enjoyment.

This review was written about Java Toro by Mike Cook of Delaware on January 10, 2008

Coronas are better

Use a punch on one of these honkers as they are wrapped pretty loose. After lighting gave me an inch of firm ash and plenty of cool blue smoke with an almost too easy draw. Wrapper started unwinding a fourth of the way down and kept doing that without affecting an already even burn. Weird. Required two relights and upon second she went sour on me. Having said that it still had that fantastic JAVA taste up to that point. I've had much better luck with the JAVA coronas.

Excellent Cigar

This is a unique cigar in shape making it a good conversation piece and it is also an excellent smoking cigar. One of my favorites by far!

This review was written about Java Wafe by Albert of Rock Springs, Wyoming on August 4, 2007

I do NOT like flavored cigars, but I like this!

The construction is excellent, the draw is nearly perfect, and the taste like chocolaty maduro. Drew Estate's Java (Blended by Rocky Patel) is one cigar that I do like by Drew Estates. I do not like the acid line at all, but give me a java any day! I like the smaller ring guage in this cigar, if I get a large ring guage the flavor can be a bit much. This is one that I liked the flavor of, AND I had women approacing me asking what it was and giving compliments!.. BUT, Bottom line, THIS IS GOOD SMOKE!

Smooth

I had a Java last night. My problem was that I only had beer to pair it with...BAD IDEA. Ruined the flavor and not to mention, I ran out of beer and then got rained on. I will definitely buy it again, but will pair it appropriately with coffee or cocoa next time! Very pleasing scent. My wife doesn't smoke and she loved this thing. In fact, she came out and smoked a quarter of it herself just because she loved the smell so much

Great Smoke

Love this cigar, the wafes make for a great short smoke after a ride on the Harley. I recieved many comments from non-hurfers about the nice aroma. The Robusto is another good smoke. I find the flavor mild and very enjoyable especially with a good scotch.

My favorite among many

By far my favorite. I've tried alot of different cigars, and tend to go for the flavored. Not only good to the last draw, but a really nice smell for those who don't smoke. I'm taking some of these to Mexico where I can get a good Cuban all day long.

My favorite cigar

This cigar, along with my experience smoking this cigar, was great. Great draw, great taste and is definitely my favorite cigar. My box was a bit "soggy" as another person said, but time in the humidor is doing wonders. I am lucky to have one of the last boxes of this cigar. Great find.

They're Great but...

...there's a similar (more like identical) tasting cigar on this site called Solo Cafe that is MUCH cheaper. But if it's aesthetics you're into, the Java by Drew Estate is unmatched.

This review was written about Java Corona 5 Pack by Sean of Chattanooga, TN on December 28, 2006

good half way

I am a younger cigar smoker who tried the java as one of the first cigars I smoked. The aroma of the cigar is fantastic but thats about the only good thing. It was constantly going out and as I reached the halfway point, it became very hot and bitter. Its nice but not for the price.

weird size, nice taste

I liked the taste but the weird size was a turn off. I mean to call this a 46 guage when it is 3/16 of an inch thick needs a disclaimer.

This review was written about Java Wafe 5 Pack by Steve Tindall of DE on October 23, 2006

tastes great, bad construction (just my box?)

I received my box order two days ago. Smoked two wafers, one last night, one tonight. I can't be certain if it's my box of wafers that's 'soggy', 'soft', or just badly made. It certainly felt different than the ones I saw at a local cigar shop. The ones I saw at the cigar shop were hard, and not soft and soggy like I described. Tastes great, though, and that's the important thing. Burns great, but the draw was hard towards the end.

This review was written about Java Wafe by JW of Fresno, CA on October 19, 2006

Smooth and Tasty!

I didn't like flavored cigars but tried the sampler anyway. I'm glad I did! Started with the Wafe and ended with the 58. I'm on my 4th box of them and haven't had a bad one. Easy draw, long ash, no bitter after taste. I can enjoy this one for an hour or more. Drew Estate got this one right.

BAD BAD BAD and more BAD and BAD - oh it's BAD too

OK, I tried to accept this trend of flavored cigars but it just won't work with me. After hearing this may be an acceptable flavored cigar I tried it and was done after about a half inch of smoking. It was lucky I gave it that much. However, my wife said the smoke smelt like chocolate - LOL what a joke this thing is and look at the price per stick - RIP OFF!

This review was written about Java Wafe by Bill of Connecticut on August 22, 2006

One of the better cigars that I have had.People love the smell of it when I light one up. Awesome Smoke.a must try cigar.

This review was written about Java Robusto by George Pereira of Mass on August 15, 2006

Excellent

This cigar is well-made, with a nice draw, and although I was originally not too keen on the box shape...I'm now a convert. This cigar has the perfect balance of flavors. The coffee infusion is not overly done as is often the case with Kahlua cigars...but rather hinting at flavors in a much more subtle manner. Excellent cigar, goes particularly well with a nice cup of coffee. Highly recommended.

This review was written about Java Corona by Jim of PA on August 13, 2006

Been a big fan of these Javas for quite some time now. Just finished a box and I intend to buy another. The cigars are not perfect, but the taste sure is.

Wonderfully Smoooth!

My two sons and I smoked our first Java this past weekend and they were very good! The burn was consistent and the draw was easy. I love the square shape and feel. I am definitely up for a box after having a 5 pack sampler.

A fantastic smoke !!!

Being a fairly new cigar smoker I have been almost maniacal in my samplings of different cigars. Although I like regular cigars; I can appreciate flavored ones also. These are amazing. Great draw, very nice construction, and wonderful to look at. A mild taste of cocoa, a litte bit of coffee and an amazing aroma while mantaining a premium tobacco taste. Forget the samplers I'm buying boxes of the stuff!!!!

This review was written about Java Corona 5 Pack by George of NYC on July 11, 2006

Not so good

Now something doesn't ring true here. When I opened the various cigars in the sampler, the smell that initially hit me was not coffee, but chocolate. I then passed the cigars under someone else's nose, and they concurred: chocolate. Then came the smoking. Got to tell you, folks, the cigar tasted terrible. To best describe the taste would be to liken it to a chemical taste similar to moth balls. And, the after-bite was nearly acidic. This does it for me for flavored cigars. I'm sticking with my Arturo Fuentes.

Think Twice First

I don't usually do flavored cigars, but I recently got a 5 pack of these mocha-flavored demons. First, build quality was bad with obvious breaks in the wrappers. Then the smoke had an unusual almost-undescribable bitter-metallic taste. I won't touch the remainder, and I wonder if I just got a bad batch. Reviews seem quite good, but I couldn't give these better than a 4 over-all rating. Sorry.

This review was written about Java Corona 5 Pack by Jeff of Hawaii on April 27, 2006

Tasty

I'm not normaly into flavored cigars, but this one is the real thing. Unlike most of the Drew Estate cigars, this cigar actually appears to contain pretty high quality tobacco. It has a wonderful aroma, and a nice coffee/irish creme taste. My only beef is the rather loose construction.

This review was written about Java Robusto by Mike of Pittsburgh on April 20, 2006

Wow! What a treat!

Dino (my tobacconist) told me that I had to try this cigar. I took one home and tried it later that evening. The construction is magnificent, the draw is nearly perfect, and the taste heavenly! Drew Estate's Java has a rich flavor with a taste of cocoa. I highly recommend this cigar! I like it so much that I bought a box of them.

This review was written about Java Robusto by Tom of Jacksonville, FL on March 30, 2006

I've had better from Drew Estates.

I just received the 5 pack I ordered of the WAFE cigar. I'm glad I only ordered the 5 pack. Should've bought only one. Not impressed with this version of the Java series. I've had better from the Drew Estate factories. Don't think I'll order the Wafe again. The revewer of this line that put his comments in the catalog did his job well.

This review was written about Java Wafe by Bill of Lockport, IL on March 29, 2006

Nice start, but...

Out of the package, this cigar smells GREAT, and the first couple of minutes are also quite pleasant. Unfortunately, it wasn't able to sustain it's flavor, becoming more and more dull as it burned. Very bland toward the finish and not a pleasant aftertaste. Rats...

I love these smokes!

John, you can send them to me. Private mail me at madmerlyn at earthlink dot net for an address, and I'll send you a check for the shipping. That goes for anyone who doesn't like these!<br><br> Or, you could try letting these sit for a while. They tend to need a bit more curing than some other premiums, but they truly shine when at optimal conditions. I have never experienced any chemical aftertastes with a Java, but it is possible you just got a bad stick.<br><br> Strongly aromatic cigars are not for everyone, and <b>maybe</b> this is the reason for some negative responses. My normal experience with these (all sizes) is thick, creamy smoke, with a lot of chocolatey and coffee-like scents and flavors. Underlying the strong aromatics is a solid, pleasant mild to medium bodied tobacco. Wrappers tend to a dullish but moist appearance, and are not as prone to tearing as many other Drew Estates cigars. Finish is as good as the start (I often burn my fingers on these...).<br><br> Overall, a fine smoke, by my account. Anyone not wanting theirs is invited to send them to me. :)

Never again!

I purchased five of these based on reviews and now pondering how to get rid of the other four! The taste of the wrapper on this cigar makes it unsmokeable for me. The flavor was a little over bearing, but the wrapper was just awfull. Never tasted fermaldihyde, but this wrapper brought it to mind. Anyone want the other four, your welcome to them.

I am not a big cigar smoker, but may become one with this brand. The smell alone is enough to make you want to t
