Nothing to Write Home About

I was gifted with one of these and let it sit in my humidor to even out a bit. The cigar was well made, burned evenly, and had a nice draw. This is not a bad cigar in any way, but the flavor did not change throughout. If you look at the size of these things, to have the same flavor from start to finish is far from exciting. I found it to be much too mild for my liking. It didn't taste bad or bitter, but it just didn't deliver what I expect from a cigar. Give this a try and see what you think. The flavor just failed to impress me enough to go out and buy a box.

one of the best full-flavor cigars ever !!!

Maxx cigars are one of the best full-flavor cigars ever ... my brother and I tried them last year in buffalo,ny and were favorably surprised with the whole experience ... take a 5-pack to your next party and hand them out to the good folk ... try one with a Saranac IPA too !!!

#1 Go to Smoke

These are hands down the best go to cigar ive had ...I purchase a box each month and usually have one every evening, as far as people saying they burn unevenly...well i would tell them they need to learn how to properly light a good cigar!!

Good, but too strong

I decided it would be a good idea to have this stogie after a steak dinner because of the strength and size of it. I did just that and this thing still knocked me on my ass! This cigar was twice as strong as the partagas black label i smoked last week... but overall this cigar had a great draw, even burn, and the taste was spicy and chocolatey....very good and if it wasnt so strong i would definetly buy this again.

Aces

I see a lot of negative comments about construction, but the one I smoked had a great draw, perfect, slow burn, and very nice flavors. I would buy a box based on my experience. I have another one in my humidor; we'll see if that one smokes as good as the first. I'm a newbie, but I was not overwhelmed at all, but it's still a full strength cigar.

Give it another try

I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are for. I bought two of these at my local shop and sat them in the humi for about 4 months. I smoked one last night by a camp fire, and boy, the spices woke me up and the aroma of the smoke was toasty, dark, and abundant! Very powerful but not harsh and no bite. The finish was a bit eh, but 3/4 was good. Both of mine were tunnel free, and put out a nice 1.5 in of ash before it fell off by itself. Don't write this 'gar off...

Nice flavor, MISERABLE construction

This beautiful cigar lit up nicely and proceeded to canoe down one side for an inch and a half. The filler was just folded into a U shape which drew all the air and heat down through the folded slot.

Disappointed

The draw was good, and the first half of the cigar was a good smoke, then the wrapper split. After that it just got nasty. I took it apart and found three stems that were 1/8 inch thick. Also, as I suspected, the 58 ring gauge was achieved by padding the long filler with clippings, so essentially, this was a "mixed filler" cigar. This cigar is way overpriced and overhyped.

Scrumptious Firecracker

This cigar is mouth watering upon first sight. Its huge ring gauge offers ample oomph. It delivers an intense amount of Flavoral smoke throughout, including a Leather core with notes of almonds and dark, nasty Dirt. It Burns Firecracker Hot, like a Roman Candle and it runs a bit in the beginning however the middle portion of this smoke is downright scrumptious and bold spicey. a Firecracker Cigar.

Just a couple of puffs, so far, the 61/2 x 54 (?)

But I agree with the others. THIS is one nice taste. Strong, but not harsh. Tasty but not biting.

Spicy, full flavored winner.

Judging from the reviews, there must be some inconsistencies in this cigar but I havent found them. Im on my third box and all have been very good. This cigar is full bodied with cider and cocoa spice. Like the Medalist, the burn can be a bit erratic but not uncontrollable. I like this cigar better than the Medalist for its consistency on the finish.

Dont get Discouraged after the first.

I bought a Box of the Culture pretty cheap on an auction. I was not to fond of the first one I had the day they arrived. I let them age for about a month in a good humi. and i'm glad I gave them another shot, the second was amazing. I usually smoke a Partagas Black or an A Fuente I would say this is pretty comparable however it is not as hard hitting as the Partagas Blk.

Smooth and effortless draw with a unique flavor.

I do not possess the palate of some individuals that can describe a cigar as nutty, creamy, etc... but what I can tell you is this cigar is amazing. Smooth and effortless draw with a unique flavor. I have tried the MAXX Freak, but it contained some dead spots and I recieved a migrane as I attempted to fill my mouth with smoke. If you haven't had the pleasure of smoking one of these beauties, but enjoy a full flavored yet mild smoke The Fix is the cigar for you! Enjoy!

Not quite up to par

Big, beefy cigar. Had a good light, but very inconsistent burn. Sat it down for a while to cool off, but still burned inconsistent. Was in humidifier with others for 3 weeks at 70% but did not fair well. Had a decent mild taste to it, not too spicy.

Get your Freak on!

After a long day and night on the job, my crew and I will stand around and debrief our last OP, and usually spark up a cigar (A Victory Dance, as we call them) to celebrate another job well done. We have smoked Cohibas, Rocky Patels line, Drew Estates, CAOs to name just a few and have loved them all, but when the first box of Alec Bradleys Maxx The Freak arrived, we knew things would never be the same. It was a smooth, creamy smoke that had just the right amount of flavor, and aroma. Great construction and burned even with about an inch and a half of ash on average.
If you enjoy a truly superior cigar then all I can say is Get your FREAK on!

Don't waste your money

Most likely the worst tasting cigar I've ever smoked. After giving it a chance I put it out after 10 minutes. I do not recommend.

I find these to be great cigars

I'm surprized by the negative reviews. I've gone through several boxes of these with very few draw or burn issues. Every cigar has a dud once in a while but these are overwhelming good. Enjoy them when you have lot's of time as they take a while to smoke.

I've ordered these a few times, and have yet to be disappointed.I think it is more of a medium bodied smoke, but as for the flavor of the cigar...well, that's why I reorder them.I'm not good at descriptions, but the taste is great, and have never had a burn or draw problem with these.

BAD BAD BAD!!!

I'm pretty sure this is the WORST Cigar I've Ever had! I'm no beginner and I love full flavored cigars, but this just tasted horrible. You want full flavor go for the RP The Edge Corojo, the RP Rosado or the Alec Bradley Medalist and stay the hell away from this thing!!!

Great taste, a real winner!

One of best smokes I have had. Not a full maduro, but a wonderful rich choclately taste. If you like a Maduro, this is real close. Spicy at the beginning, rich and creamy in the middle, and a great finish. I recommend this highly. Not for a beginner.

Worth every pennie and much more

I can't believe the negative comments I have read about this smoke. The construction is solid, the burn is even, the ash is firm and crowned fiery red. The bold flavor with hints of coffee and wood is smooth, yet robust. This cigar is in my top five all-time favorites.

A flavorful and wonderfully aromatic cigar.

This was the first 'large' cigar I've tried. The construction and color is above average. I had some difficulty with the draw, but the flavor and aroma was quite pleasant. I smoked the entire cigar and enjoyed it the more the longer I smoked. I would definitely buy these again. Well worth the price.

A work in progress

I agree with the other reviews, this cigar is pretty decent. I did enjoy the full body flavor, but I thought the draw was alittle difficult. You really have to open this cigar up, by cutting the cap off, then you can really enjoy the taste. Please rotate the cigar often because it burns unevenly. Once you get past that it really is a good tasting cigar. A work in progess.

Max Hype

Typical of most everything I have smoked made by them. Mediocre at best.--- Maxx Hype!
However, it must be mentioned that there were no problems with construction and nothing bad about the taste---just very little of it- for a cigar called maxx.

Not to suprised

I found this to be a decent tasting cigar, not perfect for beginners like myself but had a fuller taste that I have been looking for. Draw was tight at first, this could have just how I had cut the cap, after a bit the cap opened right up and the draw was better but not perfect. The burn was uneven the whole time, from lighting to finishing, First the wrapper burned too fast, then the filler. This could have also been from the cigar being too moist and the wrapper being oily, When the wrapper was burning right it was burning at different rates, I needed to continuously rotate the cigar. Even though this was some work, the taste was amazing. Im not sure how to describe it, but it made me think of coffee. This is one beefy cigar even though it is a wide cigar it feels just right, and a great length, I'm gonna pick another one up tomorrow . Over all this is a decent cigar for the money, all of the burn and draw issues mentioned by others here are true, but if you can get over them this will be a cigar you will enjoy.

TASTES AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS

This cigar looks like a cigar should, thick, heavy, gourgous wrapper. The prelight aroma was really good with a slight white pepper taste. The cigar burns well with flavors of spice, earth, nuts, slight coffee. You'll need a good 1.5 hours for this one.Could easily be in my top 3, and with the unbelievable deal from Famous, you can't go wrong.

These would be a bargain at twice the price.

I would put these up against ANY cigar at as much as twice the going price. They are robust, yet smooth, and burn very slowly, with a perfect ash.

Must-try cigar

This is a majestic cigar, one worth investing 2 hours on. I couldn't wait when they got to the door and lit one up. It ran and did the canoe thing and I was very disappointed. The rest in the humidor did these sticks justice. Every one I have had since was a pleasurable experience. If you are a fan of full flavor then give these a try. Just give them some seasoning time.

a disappointment

I took the bait and bought a box of the EGO's. It didnt take long after the light up that the weakness of this cigar manifested. The burn was uneven and then the wrapper began to unfold! I ended up dishing it about half way. The flavor was good but the construction made this cigar a disappointment. After smoking two it appears the construction is a problem with the presidente line. I can only hope that the rest will be better

Big & Easy

The size is impressive, and a nice dark, oily wrapper looks great. From other reviews, I expected a full afternoon of smoking, but the easy draw burns thru it in about 1.5 hours. Medium to full flavor. Occasionally had to cut a run, but all in all a good smoke.

MIXED REVIEW

THE EGO STARTED OUT LIKE GANGBUSTERS. STOUT,SMOOTH AND VERY COMPLEX....WELL BALANCED. ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN IS WHEN IT TURNED ON ME. THE WRAPPER SPLIT AND UNWRAVELLED STARTED TO BURN UNEVEN AND THE TASTE WAS...WELL, FLAT. I'LL SMOKE A FEW MORE TO GIVE THEM THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT.

Still looking for my socks after this 9 out of 10

I love this cigar, my favorite size and strength. Good draw despite some worm holes that caused the burn to run a little. This is definately a cigar that needs a full hour to smoke and can take a strong glass of burbon or scotch to accompany it. I want another box now!

Great aroma but really poor burn.

I bought the MAXX Ego in hopes of finding a cigar that is better than my usual smoke, a Punch After Dinner Maduro. the Ego is a great smelling cigar with an exceptional taste; however, it is nowhere near the cigar I envisioned. I moved to the Ego in hopes of finding a cigar superior to the Punch After Dinner Maduro but found that while the Ego smelled better than the Punch, the taste and burn were far inferior. For the price of a full bodied cigar I cannot recommend the Ego. The taste is good but not exceptional and the burn is substandard. Rough ash and an even worse burn make the Ego a surprising disappointment.

TAKE YOUR TIME, YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE

I have about a 1 hour drive from home to work. I fired up one of those broom sticks Ego's the other morning when I left the house. You almost need a trash can for an ashtray in your vehicle. That bad boy is quite a smoke. Not only is it a bold cigar, it will get you fired up shortly after lighting. The only problem I have it's not for a short commute. I was almost going to cry simply because I got to work and still had half the stick left. This is a cigar you want to enjoy over a long stretch. I plan on ordering more just to keep my neighbors in line. Thanks Famous for making this available.

GENTLEMEN START YOUR ENGINES

I've worked for the Federal Government for over 20 years, and for the most part it's been to say the least exciting. Now that I'm reaching retirement time it's become somewhat boring. I ordered a box of the "Freaks" simply because I prefer a bolder type of smoke. Gentlemen, when you light this puppy up you better "reach back and grab your panty hose" Life will become exiting on your first puff. I tell you what, if it's pure smoking pleasure from a bold cigar you are looking for, this is it. I start my morning off at 0300 and leave for work at 0400 each morning. I fired up my first MAXX the other morning to drive to work and by the time I was 10 miles down the road I was ready for anything the world could throw at me. After a 10 hour day I returned home and the first thing I reached for was another MAXX. This time I fired the stogie up with a Kettle One on the rocks and double olive. Now I know what it feels like dying and almost going to heaven. Thank you Arthur for making this product available.
