HANDS DOWN #1 MADURO!!!

I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE! I WAS SKEPTICAL AT FIRST DUE TO ITS CHEAP PRICE AND OBSCURITY, BUT I AM EXHILERATED WITH MY DECISION TO PURCHASE THIS CIGAR. IN MY OPINION IT IS NOT ONLY THE BEST OVERALL MADURO AROUND BUT ALSO THE MOST BEAUTIFUL,UNIQUE SHAPE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED! EASILY A 94+ RATING IN MY BOOK!

Cohiba WHO !!!!!!!!!!!

THE ONLY STICK IN MY OPINION THAT EVEN DARES TO COME CLOSE TO THIS FINE MADURO IS THE TORBUSTO SIZE OF THE VERY SAME CIGAR. A WONDERFUL SUPRISE FOR THE PRICE! COHIBA WHO? ONYX BEATS THE REST HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!! A MUST TRY FOR THE TRUE MADURO LOVER!

Maduro is king 'o' cigars, good bite & burn.

These cigars are in my opinion, other than maybe oscuro, is a great smoke, cuts well w/a V cutter, good ash, smooth, very firm bite, and timing is best. All around $'s worth.

Splendid! Even made my Bud Light taste good!

I used to think I wouldn't find a better cigar than the Rocky Patel Vintage line. I was sadly mistaken!

Delicious!

The last time I was in the San Diego area, I went to the Casa Del Habano store in Tijuana and paid $17 for the cohiba maduro petite corona that CA put on their top 25 list. Got a 5 pack of these for less than that. The Onyx Reserve blew the cohiba out of the water. I tend to think Cubans are overrated, so you might not want to take me seriously, but these are great cigars. Coronas are my favorite size, and this was a perfect one. 45 minute smoke. They're medium-strength cigars that would be great any time of the day. Super-legit.

A phenomenal cigar in every respect

Despite what most people say about not buying a full bodied cigar for your first, I was simply drawn to the Onyx, and it did not disappoint. A rich, full taste accompanies every puff taken, and both the burn and draw are even and consistent. They are now a permanent addition to my humidor.

What a wonderful smoke

Excellent feel, love the square press. Rich flavor but not an over powering cigar.

Superb smoke at this price

Onyx doesn't disappoint. Rich flavor, great draw pretty good burn. I'm partial to box pressed and am happy to be able to get a smoke like this at a reasonable price to make this one of my everyday sticks.

Excellent stogie

I picked up a 5 pack of these at auction. As a relative new comer to cigar smoking, I have been poking around buying smokes at auction and building my own 5 packs here at Famous Smokes. The Onyx #4 is an excellent Maduro (I just picked up a boxfull at auction), I am adding them to my rotation along with my Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Maduro and Rocky Patel Cuban Blend Maduros. I got started with Rocky Patels in the same manner. New smokers out there should take advantage of Famous Smoke's "build your own" 5 packs as this allows a way to check out all the great smokes without a huge cash outlay. Thanks to Famous Smoke for their different marketing techniques for trying different brands without taking out a loan. I also love thier auctions.

Impressive finish

This Onyx Reserve was smooth from start to finish (literally to the band). I didn't want to put it down. It seemed to get more flavorful at mid smoke. A great cigar at a good price!

Love This Cigar

Just started smoking cigars less than a year ago. One of my first was a Macanudo from my uncle. Good starter. Whatever kind it was, it was mild and coaxed me into trying more. Awhile later, my uncle gave me an Onyx. I loved it, but maybe too much. I was burning my fingers about and inch or two before everyone else. I was fairly dizzy after that. Once I learned that cigar smoking wasn't a race, I bought my 5 pack of these Mini Belicosos. They are a smoke that I always want to have in my repertoire. Great easy draw, tons of rich smoke, I love the depth of flavor from the dark maduro wrapper. These and the robustos seem to be just my size, since I usually don't have an hour to smoke. They burn great, are well constructed, and are smooth to the end. They hold a perfect ash for at least an inch or more. Your friends will like it until they get to the last two inches. It gets a little harsh at the end, but if you've gotten that far, you must like it. Please stop reading this nonsense and enjoy one for yourself.

I have to say it again...

I put a positive review down for this fella before, but now that I have had a second cigar, I have to agree with myself. It is fantastic. I like to bounce from stogie to stogie and not get attached to just one brand, but this baby is great! I've read complaints that the draw is too tight. I like it as tight as it is because then I don't draw too hard and have a mouthful of hot smoke and plus it gives it a perfect burn so it is a good looking stogie even half way thru. If I could never have anything other than ONYX in my humidor, I wouldn't complain. BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY

Very very nice...

Smoked my first one all the way to the nub. Taste was great throughout, draw was near perfect, couldn't ask for better for the money.

A NICE SURPRISE!

I really enjoyed this smoke! I even went against conventional wisdom, and smoked one the day I received them. Very tasty and a spectacular finish! I can't wait to smoke the next one! I'm glad that I purchased a box!

Buy It!!

I don't know what the guy from the UK is talking about, must be an amature, this is a great smoke, mellow smooth, slow burning and strong, but mildly so. It is another of my go to smokes when I have a little while, but not that much time. Trust me; I have smoked a variety and for the money this is one of the better ones.

Must be me, but....

I apologise for being an infidel, but these just dont float my English boat as they do with other people who have bothered to leave comments. A tad fierce with no discernable flavour, just a strong smoke for dead tastebuds perhaps ? I'll age them a year or so then have another try.

This review was written about Onyx Reserve Mini Belicoso 5 Pack by CreekEnd of UK on October 27, 2007

One of the best.

Good flavor, does not have that burning taste or bitter taste.

This review was written about Onyx Reserve #4 (Square Pressed) by Bobby of Carrollton, Ga. on October 21, 2007

I can't beat this cigar for the money.

Being pretty new to cigars, I've been out on a quest to try them all. I decided that I really like maduro cigars, and Onyx Reserve is THE ONE so far. I really like the Ashton Aged Maduro, but they're like $15 each in town. While I can get Onyx for roughly $3 a cigar. I can't even justify an Ashton VSG even if I could get it for the same price. It does seem like every once in a while I'll get one that's a little plain. I can't figure that out. But at $3 a cigar, if it sucks, put it out man. Try another one. When they're good, they're REALLY good, and most of the time they are.... Show me one that is as good or better for 3 bucks a stick, and I'll try it.

Great Cigar, Great flavor!!

For the price, this is the best Maduro Belicoso cigar available.

Appearance-A Right out of the box and into the Humidor, I knew I had something good. These things looked great!

Flavor-A+ I personally prefer this over Olivia Series O Maduro and CAO Maduro (two of my other, more expensive favorites)

Construction-A Contrary to other reviews here, I haven't had any draw or wrapper problems. I think a majority of the problems reported here may be due to improper storage/humidification and/or impatience. Don't expect to have a fresh, recently shipped cigar smoke like an aged gem. They rarely, if ever, will.

If you like cigars like the CAO Maduro or Brazilia or the Olivia brands of Maduros, you'll like this one. It's not as good as a Trinidad Maduro, but that one is a bit more expensive and shouldn't be compared, although it is close.

MEATY to the finish

A rich, meaty full-flavored cigar with notes of spice and roasted nuts with a meaty finger burning to the nub finish. Good to the VERY LAST puff. 90's + rating for sure!

This review was written about Onyx Reserve #4 (Square Pressed) by wideglide1 of NY on September 9, 2007

really good flavor

I really like this smoke, if it were a full strength stick it would be my favorite. That does not distract from the great maduro flavor it has and the box press construction is well done. Nice to look at nice to smoke.

This review was written about Onyx Reserve Belicoso #2 (Square Pressed) by Kirk H of Santa Barbara CA on August 23, 2007

Very Disappointing

Bought a box of these based on the high rating (94) but I am very disappointed. Draw is a little tight and I have to re-light often during the last 1/3rd. The taste is not to my liking at all - sharp and unpleasant. I've learned my lesson - never try a cigar by buying a box of 20! Anyone want to buy 18 sticks?

This review was written about Onyx Reserve Robusto (Square Pressed) by Paul of Wisconsin on July 18, 2007

Good but....

Certainly a good cigar. Well made, great burn, easy draw but slightly bitter. Tried one right after purchase and one aged in the humidor after two months and still a bit bitter for my taste. Gave some to a friend who couldn't thank me enough saying these were some of the best around. Different smokes for different folks I guess.

This review was written about Onyx Reserve #4 (Square Pressed) by LK of Houston, TX on June 15, 2007

Yippers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT SMOKE! Highly rated for a reason. The wrappers are beautiful, thick, oily and stay intact. Go ahead and finger roll. Great cocoa and chocolate taste. Taste, in as much as complexity, is THE BEST. Draw is so perfect. I've smoked too many to count and every one is just as good as the last...

What can I say?

What can I say that hasn't been said on here prior? This is a great smoke. Pour a glass of Jameson Scotch blend, light up an Onyx and enjoy!

This review was written about Onyx Reserve #4 (Square Pressed) by Sean of Montesano, WA on May 22, 2007

Eh...

I have smoked two of these now, both a dissapointment. The first seemed very stale although it was fresh. The burn was just awful, the wrapper didnt even burn. I just put it out. The second tasted fresher but was so tight couldn't even smoke it. The taste from both that I have is wonderful when its burning right and not fighting with it. Wrapper burned nicely ash could have been whiter. I have 4 more im going to hold on to these for a while and see if they are any better....hopfuly fresh and a bit looser. I do have to say after smoking the second one for a while it did loosen up, this is only becuase i refuse to put a cigar down that I paid for.

Long on flavor/Short on draw

Love the flavor as I smoke Maduro cigars almost exclusively. This cigar is a great bang for the buck but found every cigar in the box to be tough draw. This cigar would be a 10 if it had a an easy draw!!

This review was written about Onyx Reserve Belicoso #2 (Square Pressed) by DENNIS JOHNSTON of California on May 6, 2007

My Experience

This is a very good smoke for the money. The draw is wonderful and effortless and the appereacne of this cigar is classic. I love the price of this smoke as well because I have bought Onyx Reserve in local Cigar stores and they are not cheap by no means. Famous Smoke has done a good job with the pricing of these wonderful smokes and I will continue to purchase them at this price.

Alright

I've found the Reserve #4's to be decent. I don't believe they're all that people make them out to be. When I start one out, I'm never pleased with the taste. The longer I smoke one, the more happy I become with the taste of the smoke. They burn well and don't leave a foul smell lingering around. By the time I'm done, I always consider purchasing a whole box, if for nothing other than they're cheap and I can give them out to friends who want one of my cigars. A 2-3 dollar cigar is much easier to part with than a 10-15 dollar cigar.

Silk Wrapper/Full Body

This is one great cigar. Money being no object, great construction, perfect burn, draw. Only one thing, this is not a med-full bodied cigar. It's full bodied and dry which sets it appart from other full-bodied cigars. Wrapper is SILKY; the best Maduro. Not for beginners!

great all around cigar

I thought this little treat just hit the spot for an afternoon or evening smoke, at the golf course or just for hagning out. Read the other reviews on this guy and find it suprising about the draw. We went through 3 boxes and did not have a bad one, kept half a box for almost 3 years in the bottom of my toolbox at work, found them by accident and relit without them missing a beat.

Impressive

As a relativly new cigar smoker, I was skeptical about trying a Full flavor cigar. I prefer mild cigars, usually. I did not want to buy a whole box of cigars I was not sure that I would like. I purchased a single Onyx Toro at a local cigar store. I paid too much, but it turned out to be everything your ads said it would be. I smoked it down to a nub. Later that day, I bought a box of them from Famous. They are now my "go to". And at Famous' prices, they are a real bargain. Not too strong at all. They taught me the difference between full flavor and too strong. I am really impressed.

One of My Favorites

This is definitely one of, if not, my favorite cigars to date. The box pressed shape and delightful aroma are the least of the fantastic attributes of this cigar. It's VERY flavorful and when it 'comes in' at about midway, the pleasure jumps tenfold. My wife knows when I'm smoking an Onyx, because I won't come into the house til I burn my fingers - it's that good. She'll look out the door and question "Onyx?", and I'll just smile and nod as I continue my pleasurable experience. I've yet to waste a single draw on this one. For those that had a less than satisfying experience with this cigar, I suggest trying it again. All brands have a klunker every now and then, but I have yet to have one with the Onyx brand.

Talks the talk, but don't walk the walk

I'll be brief since this thing has been talked about on here by the whole cigar world. I got my five pack out, kept em in the humi for 2 weeks finally had to try one. Looks great feels great burns ok taste... ok the taste.... well, thats whats missing. this thing is just a big wimp. It talks big, looks big, and punches like a little bitch. Oh well I'll put it in my community humi. Whom ever rated this one in the 90s must have lit it after smoking a crack rock.

Great Everyday Smoke

I bought a box of these a few weeks ago. I'm very satisfied and would recommend these cigars to anyone. Excellent construction; it just feels good in your hand. I will say that when I plugged them, the draw was a little tight. I tried cutting one with a guillotine and it made all the difference in the world. Can't beat it for for the price.

Well, it really is that good.

I'll keep my comments short since this cigar has been well-reviewed and debated here and otherwise across the cigar world. That 94 in CA really set the cigar smokers on fire with either praises or blasphemy for this cigar. If you have tried this cigar, or you've only tried one or two that turned out bad, try again. I've had one in my box that took 1/3 of the cigar to get a good draw, but after that it was golden. For the others that had 0 problems, they are really marvelous. It's among the best American cigars I've had, and it's better than most cubans I've had. It is very mild for it's very oily maduro appearance. It has a very pleasant taste than any cigar lover (or anyone who is just trying some of your cigar) will love. I have had both experienced smokers and first-timers ask me to get a box of these for them. It's very good, and it's the most debated cigar on the planet thanks to a 94 rating a few years ago, so I think it is worth a try for anyone. Then you can say with some authority what your opinion is of this cigar.

My #1 Maduro

I'm making a transition from the more mild - medium (Macanudo/ Fuente) to the darker richer Maduro. I've tried a number. The Onyx #4 is absolutly superb. Well cured, very even burn with a long firm white ash, excellent construction throughout the smoke. But the best is the full, rich taste. Somewhat sweet yet smooth without any bitter after taste. Try this on a summer eve with a glass of fine port wine and see if you don't agree. I'm going from the 5 packs to the box.

Mouth full of metal!

I love maduros, so I was looking forward to trying the Onyx Belicoso that I bought off the shelf. I had heard such great things, including the high ratings, so you can imagine how sorely disappointed I was to fire this cigar up and be treated to a mouth full of coppery metallic flavor. I gave the cigar a chance, and smoked it down to about half-way before giving up on it. The construction was good, and there was no problem with the draw. If anything, it drew too easily. However, the taste was awful, and the finish was even worse. I will definitely never buy this brand again. There are too many good smokes to enjoy and not enough time to give this one another chance.

A CHOCOLATE DESERT

I could only describe this cigar as delicious desert after a great meal ! My wife made a great potroast dinner and I had won a 5 pack of these, that arrived that day. I skipped desert because I was anxious to try one. Well let me say that this cigar WAS a chocolate desert in itself. I really took my time with it. Started off really mellow and built in intensity as it went along. The longer I smoked it the better it got. One of the best Maduro cigars I have EVER had. Deep creamy chocolate on the palate with a spicyness that enhanced the flavor. Never harsh and never burned the tongue. Never had to relight and it burned evenly all the way to the nub. The draw was great. For what these sell for I will definitely be getting more. Anyone who enjoys Maduro, I would highly recommend this cigar. Hell I would even recommend it to the natural smokers. It's a medium satisfying, more than pleasurable cigar. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!

Still the Best

After smoking a cigar that just did not do it for me, I lit up an Onyx. Never a disappointment. I LOVE this cigar ... always tasty ... always well constructed (OK ... I did have one bad one once) ... a full-bodied, strong yet not harsh smoke. Did I say it is also tasty?

Best Cigar for the money, Period.

To get a cigar that tastes as good as this Medium to Full body cigar for under 3 bucks a stick? I almost feel bad.. I am not opposed to paying 6-8 bucks a stick for a good cigar, but really this one is such a great deal, once you try them you will for sure be loading the humidor with these bad boys.. Great taste, great burn, grat wrap, consistancy through and through...I have been smoking a box of these a month for 6 months now, and the same is to be said from the first cigar till now. Once a box though, you may run into one that is a real bugger to draw on. Either poke it with the draw poker, or throw it away and start over.. The are cheap, so what the heck..

A NEW OLD FRIEND

As a big fan of maduro cigars, this one has become one of my favorites. I always have Rocky Patel Vintage 1990, Romeo Y Julieta Reserve, and La Gloria Cubana Serie R in the humidor, but at half the price, The Onyx reserve has earned a place of honor in the rotation. Plenty of flavor for any occasion, and as smooth as can be. I'm halfway through my second box and not a bad cigar in the bunch

Wonderful Taste-Wonderful Value!

This has to be the best value in a premium cigar to date. Very good taste and very complex. Even burn with no bitterness at the end. It taste the same at the end as the beginning. Unique & worth a try

The first time I smoked one of these guys about a year and a half ago I hated it. Too strong. The second time I smoked one, I still didn't much care for it. I now think that these are something of an acquired taste, and they are probably not for everyone. Very full bodied and full flavored. Now that I've been smoking cigars for more than a few years, the best way to describe these would be if cubans came with broadleaf Maduro wrappers, they'd taste like an Onyx. Best enjoyed after a big fat meal. Good smoke for the price

Full bodied wonderful taste

Onyx Reserve #4 has become by far my favorite smoke. At less than $3 a stick you will not find a better value. Very dark with an oily feel and an absolutely wonderful smell before you even fire it up ... it is a excellent cigar for anyone who wants a medium-to-strong and very tasty maduro smoke. In more than 3 dozen cigars to date, I have only found one that did not draw perfectly with a taste that lasts virtually down to the last inch. Honestly ... if you enjoy a maduro cigar you have got to try this smoke.

MAJORITY RULES - VERY GOOD SMOKE

Ouch.....It sure is hard to type with burnt fingers. I took my rubusto well past the label and enjoyed every last second. I'm not going to label the taste as woodsy, creamy, leathery etc. but it was a great smoking experience for me. Somewhere between medium and full with a nice after-taste. I was expecting this but was pleasantly suprised at the even burn and easy draw. It was a single buy experience and hopfully the box I order tonight won't let me down.
