Select Maduro Torpedo - WOW!

Ignore the ugly blemished appearance, this is a wonderful, full flavored cigar. Cool smoke, full mouth, draws smoothly from start to finish. Nice earthy tones with lip smacking hints of nutmeg and nuttiness. A good notch above the RP 2nds. Great price for a great smoke.

!!Stock up!!

I have never had a bundled cigar that tastes this good in a while. For the past 2 years these have been my daily smokes. They seem to sell out in a month of receiving a shipment and don't get any more for 3-6 months, from what i have seen. So if your anything like me and love these buy at least 3 bundles because you will be bummed when your out and they have no more for sale. I learned that the hard way the first time i tried these. I would recommend the robusto's, toro's, or torpedo's. I have had all of these and they are all great. Since these are seconds they are the higher quality seconds being selects. I find that the 2nds have more plugged sticks. on an interview with Rocky he defined the seconds and the selects as so (the seconds and selects have blemishes, the seconds have blemishes and also may have failed the draw test too, the selects all pass the draw test but may be looser or tighter than they should be but not plugged. So basically the difference is the seconds might have a higher rate of plugged sticks. So as I prefer the selects as there may be 1 or 2 sticks with a hard draw the seconds will have 1 or 2 plugged sticks and possibly 2 more with tight draws. Now after all that. I just need to say These Cigars Are GREAT if you like the Rp Sungrowns don't wast your money on 1 box of 20 and buy 3 bundles of 20 instead. Sure you don't get a box or band but personally I don't smoke my bands or boxes so why not save the dough or get more for your money. IMO they taste the same. The only problem is the stock or I would only buy these. I know of no other deal online thats any better. Currently they are in stock so buy some while you can.

Worst RP experience! Go for the Toro or Robusto.

I've tried every size in this category, love the toro and robusto, expected the sixty to be on par... but WOW, what a disappointmet. For any price. Bought a five pack, months ago, and still have two sitting in the box looking back at me.

A quality smoke for the price.

A nice long ash with a steady burn and good finish. I have shared with friends and they agree it is a nice stick for the price.

AWESOME CIGAR!!

AWESOME CIGAR! Great taste. Can't comment on the burn. I just got these today and smoked one out of the box. They were a little dry and the wrapper is beginning to become undone about half way through the smoke. I don't see this as being an issue once they sit in the humi for a while. That being said, the burn is still even. The cigars are very good looking with a nice "oily" wrapper. I can't see or taste the flaw. Excellent tasting cigar. Very similar to Rocky's Sun Growns. I plan on buying a few more bundles.

can't lose

rp at its best.sun grown is my #1 go-to.I took a chance on these---sun-grown wrapper,phenomanal full-bodied flavor,1 hour no-maintenance construction--HALF THE PRICE! Pay more-I'll take these.

"There hollow...Its smoking air"

These are horrible, there hollow and like smokin air...Any experienced cigar smoker wouldn't use these to keep the bugs away while mowing the lawn...Hey Famous, keep up on your "Factory Seconds" stock.

This review was written about Rocky Pastel Factory Select Sixty 5 pk by Joe of Newark, NJ on June 23, 2008

Great value, but more importantly great taste

I have to admit I'm a big fan of the RP Factory Select line. I only wish my favorite--the Toro--was more readily available. The Torpedo is a close second, however, and if you can get them for 2.50 a stick or less, they are a real bargain. I have smoked about 50 of the Factory Selects in various iterations and only one of them has been a slug that I had to toss before finishing it. If a 2% failure rate puts you off, then this isn't for you. The taste and burn of these Torpedos is virtually identical to the firsts, and the construction and appearance is only a hair below the first quality Rocky. It's a medium bodied smoke, with excellent richness, lots of smoke, and plenty of flavor. I think its one of the best values out there, especially when FSS puts it on special (hint, hint).

Great full bodied short smoke

Perfect smoke when time is short!! Spicy, full bodied little firecracker!! Good Burn Good construction!! May be one of the best deals in the industry at this price!! Bravo Famous and Rocky!!

What happened?

I don't know what happened to theses rocks...I only get the strength and great spicey flavor in the first half inch of the cigar. then, it turns really mellow. It's still a good smoke, but definitely not a rocky patel sungrown. I wouldn't even rate it as medium strength (overall). Maybe the cigars I got was a bad harvest, but I've been ordering these bundle the last three (3) times in 2007 and they were all the same. The quality went down the tubes. What happened ROCK?

This review was written about Rocky Patel Factory Select Torpedo by Steve of Honolulu on February 15, 2008

Good, for the money

The wrapper is exquisite: the subtle sweetness of Ecuadorian broad leaf is definitely the best thing about this cigar. The filler is reasonable, the binder is young... too young. Being nearly green, it makes the cigar taste ashy and bitter, nearly overpowering the magnificent aroma of this otherwise lovely smoke. It's good...but if you have the means, go for the Sun Growns: they are treasure.

Great Smoke Great price

I bought a bundle of these a few months ago and let them stand. I started smoking them after they were in my humidor for about 3 weeks. I was more than impressed with my first stick. They were rich, nutty and had a small hint of spice. The draw was always even and the ash was also very even. Before I knew it I went through the entire bundle and was not disappointed once! These cigars are a great everyday smoke for those that prefer mid-full premium cigars. Once I found out I had run out of these I immediately ordered 2 more bundles and then turned around to order another 2 more bundles within a week. A great cigar for a great price.

Buy something else

I went through 7 bundles of the "Factory Seconds" and had a pleasurable time with almost every cigar. Since they are no longer available I started buying these and what a difference! I discard at least six cigars per bundle because they can't be smoked. They canoe, they don't have enough tobacco in them and they are just generally BAD! Bring back the "SECONDS"

Fantastic Smally

I'm still working on a box of these that I added into my humidor. For a quick 'n tasty smoke these are hard to beat even before you see the price. Truly a flavorful little wonder!

Quality and Taste at Bargain Basement Prices

A Fuente has been my favorite family for some time but Rocky Patel has taken stolen my heart. The flavor and quality of all of the RP sticks that I've smoked are excellent including the Vintage 90, 92, Cuban Blend, and Sun Grown. These 'seconds' are no exception. I'm on my 4th or 5th bundle of these and the quality has been perfect, actually better than most 'firsts' in construction, draw, burn, and volume of smoke. The flavor is consistently excellent. I can honestly say I have not had a bad experience with one yet and I can't say that of AF firsts. The only downside is that I experience a slight irritation to my lips when I first put these in my mouth but that goes away quickly (30 sec). I have found this to happen with this wrapper on other sticks and it may just be an issue with me although a friend said the same. It is so minor it is hardly worth mentioning but I want to be balanced. This has become my 'go to' cigar and at this price, I can go there often without guilt.

Just as good as the toro but smaller

Well, they ran out of the Toros so I tried the Robusto. Just as good, just smaller. Great burn, draw and taste; I guess that about says it all. I hope they don't run out again.

Classic Rocky--complex, full-bodied

Got these on auction. The flavors were too intense and combative at first, but after a month of aging, they are very enjoyable. As another reviewer said, you really can't miss the taste of quality, full-flavored tobacco. My favorite Rocky is still the Vintage 92, but you can't beat these for the price.

I Finally Succumbed To Rocky

I gotta be honest. I've always more than a little reluctant to purchase Rakesh "Rocky" Patel's cigars. When his Indian Tabac first came on the market in the late '90s, I bought a couple of boxes, 'cause I thought the marketing was clever. The cigars, however, didn't impress. I think I've still got an unopened full box, almost a decade old. When I inquired about Patel's manufacturing facility, I was duly informed that Rocky contracted for production; that he actually didn't make cigars. He marketed and sold cigars made by others with his brand. Apparently, the cigars in which I didn't find any favor or flavor were virtual clones of Astral and Don Tomas from U.S. Cigar. So I've stayed away until recently, after hearing a multitude of glowing reports of Patel's latest creations. ------------------------------------------------- It's pretty clear that, Rocky Patel has learned a heck of alot in the last decade. Recently, with buyer's resistance gone numb,I finally bought a bundle of Rocky Patel Sun Grown Factory Select Torpedos from Famous. Rumour has it that these were made in Nestor Plasencia's factory.(?) After delivery, I put them to rest, to stabilize for a couple of weeks. ------------------------------------------------- Last night and this morning, I randomly grabbed a stick from the bundle. ------------------------------------------------- The ad copy reads that these are covered with a five year old sungrown wrapper from Ecuador, rosado in color. I think cigar ad copy and the tooth fairie have 10 points of commonality. (Get the drift?) I don't know if these wrappers are five years or five months old. Rosado? Rosado to me indicates a definite reddish hue. These cigars are deep dark; not maduro deep dark, but the color that you really want sungrown to be. ------------------------------------------------- I don't know what Factory "Select" means. They came in a bundle with no bands; yet they're not advertised as segundos. The wrappers were applied as cleanly and neatly as any cigar I've smoked over the past 4+ decades. And these cigars were heavy with tobacco, rich delicious, full bodied tobacco.--------------------------------Down to the nuts, this is a terrific full bodied cigar. Kudos to Patel and whomever actually manufactured this smoke.

Great cigar

Im holding this cigar right next to a Rocky Patel Sun Grown and if I took the band off I couldnt tell you witch one is the 2nd. Lots of great smoke, perfect draw. Cant go wrong with this one.

Another home run for Rocky!

WOW! Couldn't be happier! Top of my list for sure. They are nice and firm with an even burn, good draw, and a nice medium to bold flavor. The flavor almost reminds me of a tamer Edge Maduro Torpedo with a more pronounced leather/cinnamon note, maybe a little sweeter. They have a nice firm grey almost white ash. A great smoke. I should of let them rest longer but I couldn't wait, but very good results just the same. These will only get better with age..if you can hold out that long.

I am so glad I picked up two bundles of these from the Monster Deal this week. I just finished one down to a quarter inch. Thank you for being honest about these Famous-Smoke because you could sure sell them for firsts.

Thank you, Rocky!

I don't know how these didn't pass muster to make it into a box, but I'll send big props for selling them in bundles. They are darker than the regular sun grown, but they are beautiful sticks. Oily wrappers, full of flavor, nice even burn, firm white ash. Grab some while you can.

And I thought it couldn't get better...

I've been a steady customer of these for over a year, and man are they GREAT! I found a couple straglers in the bottom of my humidor from last summer...WOW!!! They were out of this world; more rounded and smooth with every bit of flavor. I'll be buying a bundle for now and another to age for next year.

Great little smoke, perfect for 20 minute breaks

Tried one box and had to order more. They will be a regular in my humidor from now on. Lots of flavor and it can hold its own with the big boys. I have not found a flaw in these 'factory selects'.

I try my best to find really good cigars on sale & spend the least I can. My friends call me a tight wad but I tell them I am just poor with a real need for good cigars. This bundle worked great. Every cigar in this bundle was sooooo good. Thank you famous-smoke shop. I am ordering more today.

FINE CIGARS

I have smoked lots of boxed and banded cigars at twice the price , that wont compare to these Rocky selects . They burn good , they draw good, and the taste is superlative. I like to get the most I can get out of the money I spend . Thats why I trade with Famous in the first place .

Another Excellent and Affordable Rocky Patel

I really liked the RP Sun Grown Factory Selects Toros, and I bought a bundle of these Petit Coronas for those colder days when I do not want to stand outside for a hour. These Petit Coronas have the excellent burn, draw, and consistency of a Rocky Patel, with good taste and aroma. This is a nice premium smoke at an affordable price. I would not hesitate to buy more.

A great cigar for a great price!

This cigar has all the attributes of a premium cigar, for a great price. They consistently have good burn and draw. While they are not as pretty as the boxed cigars, they are still a nice looking, well made, cigar. Taste is very good, and not overpowering. They make a good complement to the super premium cigars in my humidor. I will definitely buy this bundle again.

The Worst of the Factory Selects!

Every instinct in my body told me not to buy these! After all, Famous has been sold out for a long time on all the other sizes. But not these. How could the toro be sooo good and the torpedo be sooo bad? Avoid these like the plague. I stupidly bought them when they went on sale for $25 off the regular price. There is absolutely nothing worthwhile about this cigar. Yuck!

Wonderful cigar. The taste was multi-dimensional and sublime. If there are any wrapper flaws, they are too subtle for me to detect. Highly recommended cigar at an excellent price point.

The best !!

This is the best cigar I have ever purchased, regardless of cost. It draws well and smokes consistently from beginning to end. As someone else has commented on the Selects: Put a band on them and no one would ever know they weren't "firsts". An outstanding buy.

Absolutely fabulous smoke, smooth and satisfying

I tried a bundle hoping to get a relatively good cigar for an everyday siesta....WOW, was I surprised! This cigar has all the makings of a classic smoke...consistent, smooth - sultry taste and great construction! What a find for the investment! I'm buying a few more bundles to stock the humidor!

These cigars have become a go to in my humidor

I love the Rocky Patel Selects and seconds cigars. A friend & I split a bundle of these early in the year, and since then I ordered 4 more bundles! These have that Taste that the Rocky Patel cigars are known for, burn great, look good, and smoke excellent. The only thing I see wrong with any cigars is maybe a slight wrapper flaw in a few of the cigars or 1-2 cigars may not burn as good as the others in the bundle. No biggie though. If you like a smaller cigar try these out, I bet you'll be back for more.

This review was written about Rocky Patel Factory Select Petit Corona by Bill Huelsman of Ohio on July 7, 2006

Wow

Warning! This cigar is highly addictive, yet highly potent! BEautiful cigar. Excellent construction, appearance, taste, draw etc. I'm a big fan of Rocky Patel and stock much of my humidor with boxes of his entire line. I am a regular smoker of his sun grown line and I could not tell the difference. Be forwarned, this cigar packs a punch. I love full flavored cigars and enjoy them regularly. The sun growns however will have your head spinning. Even with a full belly after a steak and potato dinner, an inch and a half into the cigar and I was being over powered. Had to slow myself down big time and just enjoy it. It has no bite or harshness to it whatsoever. Just a very strong flavorful taste. Thick smoke, and solid sturdy ash from this beauty. Order and you won't be disappointed. Unfortunately they will be out of stock on the torpedo size as I am going to buy them all, so please enjoy the rest.

Great Smoke

I used to get some fake cubans out of New Orleans until Katrina closed the store and it took a while for me to find the same full taste at an everyday price. This sun grown cigar has filled the bill. I have smoke at least a dozen bundles, the taste is consistent and the stucture is of high quality. I like a very easy draw and for the most part this cigar delivers. I'll continue to make this my daily smoke.

My best value bundled cigar

Not quite as consistent or as "on" as the firsts, but better than the 2nds I've smoked. For the $40 I paid for a bundle on the auction site, it's the best value for the money I've spent on a bundle of cigars. I'm stocking up on the Sun Growns.

This review was written about Rocky Patel Factory Select Toro by Derek of Tucson on October 20, 2005

GREAT Taste, but definitely "seconds"

Anyone who's smoked a Rocky Patel knows that his cigars seem to have a unique flavor profile. Strong, smooth, they linger on the palate long afterward. They are not aimed at the "average" or new cigar smoker. Personally I love the taste, aroma, even the feel of these in my hand. But -- you gotta know these are definitely "seconds" in terms of quality control. Example: of the last two I've had, one was rolled impossibly tight (I finally threw it out in frustration), then the next one was slightly loose. I've had wrappers shred (not often, but it does happen) and maybe 1/3 of the cigars have obvious visual flaws, cracks or whatever. The price is good, just know they are not first-run, boxed cigars.
