Not a bad cigar for the price

I bought a few of these in a Maduro wrapper Churchill and was pleased. The were not too loose and had a good taste. I liked them well enough to look for them online and found them here.

Great Smoke!

A really good smoke. Well constructed with a good taste. I purchased the same cigar with the natural wrapper and found they are a little too loosely rolled and get hot at the end.

the worst

Definitely some of the worst cigars I've had the misfortune of buying. When you take a chance on cheap cigars, sometimes you get stung. These were the torpedos. Maybe the other sizes are better, but these were VERY fat and mushy. The flavor was ok... I'll give them that. If only they had rolled them a little firmer so it didn't feel like you were holding a big mushy stupid looking marshmallow...

Not Good

Received my first bundle of Roly cigars via UPS this afternoon. Haven't tried these cigars before. All cigars were very dry with some wrappers already split; perhaps time in my humidifier will help salvage some. After smoking one I would characterize the taste of the Roly as akin to dust -- horrible. I won't order them again. "You live and learn!"

Much Better Than Expected!!!

I have been meaning to try these Roly Robusto's for some time now but went with the old "Get What You Pay For" theory, (Big Mistake). These Roly's can only be described by one word, GREAT! The taste is consistant from the foot to the nub, the burn is even, construction is solid. I should have known that with the name Rolando Reyes Sr.on them, these smokes would be nothing less than great. As a strict Honduran cigar smoker these Roly's will surely be one of my everyday cigars, and there will alway's be some in my humidor.

one word. junk!

i was looking for something cheap and good. Since i've tried some of the puros indios ranges, i figure a second grade puros might not be too bad. Unfortunately this is not case.
Starts off with green almost grassy taste on the 1st inch and it was slightly better in the middle... notice the word "slightly" and getting harsher and harsher with lots of peppery taste towards the end. bland taste, mild to medium body. and it wasnt that cheap in australia. prefer hoyo montery de maire i have 10 times better. tiny cigar, with much more complexity with almost the same price if you smoke 2 of those tiny cigars.
conclusion:
after smoking 3 to see if there's any changes, consistency is non existent, ugly wrapper. So... dont buy it!

Great "old-time" cigar

This cigar takes in water very well and becomes nice and squigy in just a short time in the humidor. If you like a true cigar this is it! Not for the cigar smoker who likes the modern type cigar the is "clean" on the palette. This starts harsh and stays that way throughout the entire stick...this is a true cigar.

Asi asi.

This cigar is so-so in the beginning, maduro taste and aroma, but the last two inches is nothing to be desired. The cigar gets hot and hits you with a serious bite as you get down to the end. At this point it takes on a bad aftertaste. Your better off putting it out and chewing the last two inches.

Proceed with causion

First let me say, Im fairly new as a cigar smoker (less than 1 year), now I picked up a bundle of these and found them a little inconsistent. First they are not very attractive to look at, the burn is a little uneven at times. I've found that they do mellow out some after I put them in the humidor for 3 weeks. So as an amateur I would say, they are cheap and could be an ok smoke if your not looking for excellences. Would I purchase these again, (YES), if I plan to put them away for 3-6 weeks before smoking them. If your not will to do that don?t waste your time. They seem to be to unpredictable for the short hall. For the long haul a cheap investment but nothing special!

My favorite cigar

During the past 4 years I have smoked a variety of Roly cigars. I have bought other cigars at auction, but always go back to the Roly. I prefer them to some more expensive brands. Rolando Reyes turns out top quality cigars, and I would not hesitate to buy any he makes.

Fond memories of Roly cigars

A number of years ago, I was visiting friends in Miami when I heard there was a cigar convention in Coconut Grove. Interested, I went and paid my admission fee, but was kind of disappointed ... not very many well known cigar makers were present. But I made my way around and found that there were some interesting vendors selling a variety of cigar related products (vending machines, air-purifiers, etc.) but not many cigar makers and samples. Two memorable guys with cigars was one from "Big" cigars who had a perfecto shaped cigar, long before I started to see them reappear in the marketplace and a guy who was selling block packs (20-25) of "Roly" cigars. Never heard of them, but they had a certain appeal and at about 20 bucks for a bundle of Churchills, I thought I couldn't go too wrong. When I got back home I stuck them in the bottom drawer of my dresser and forgot about them until summer. That's when I started firing them up and smoking them while mowing the grass. Pretty soon, I started looking forward to doing the lawn, because that's when I was allowing myself to enjoy these magnificent (but plain and simple) sticks. I never forgot those ... I even kept the wrappings from the bundle ... occasionally taking a whiff of that deep rich tobacco scent left behind ... until a decade and a half later I got a computer and discovered where to get them. I don't know why the negative reviews ... maybe the blend has changed some, but I still enjoy them ... more the torpedos now. I think a little aging may help and taking a cue from David Matthews review of the Puros Indios from March 2002, Rolando Reyes, Sr. has a certain way he smokes his cigars ... it's a little long, but read what the reviewer repeats from an article he read ... you have to take your time when smoking these ... enough said.

Great aroma, great earthy taste in a medium body

I've smoked a cetros natural wrap(one a day)for a year and have been trying all Honduras blends and puros in-between. Nothing takes its place for earthy flavor, natural aroma, very good construction and burn. I re-light often and don't experience the bite or back-of-throat constriction of other more expensive pretenders. I give this cigar an easy 8.99.99!

Pretty fair smoke

Great ring makes for a substantial smoke. Good aroma and well-constructed. Only knock is that the filler is not long leaf and there's a tendency for bits to escape through the head.
Overall, I think it is a great choice for a bundled cigar.

This is one excellent smoke!

When I noticed Roly Torpedo on CigarMonster for about a dollar a stick, I bought a bundle. I've enjoyed other flavorful cigars from Rolando Reyes in the past, so I expected these to be decent. Boy, was I wrong! This is an awesome smoke! After smoking my first one, the excellent draw and slightly spicy flavor reminded me of other, much more expensive cigars I've enjoyed. Needless to say, I'll be buying Roly Torpedo again in the future. It's a winner in my book!

Great cigar!

Over the years I have smoked many brands of cigars. I have smoked different types of medium blend Roly cigars, and find all of them to be a great smoke. At auction I try others when I think they are a bargain, but keep going back to the Roly. They are seconds, but seldom have I found one I didn't like. The price is right and the cigar fine except that at least half those I've smoked were noticably under-filled; they felt as if they were partially deflated. Not what I look for in a cigar, I'm afraid.

A nice suprise! Found these by accident

I bought a bundle of these on sale as a gift for a good friend. He raved over them so much, I bought a bundle for myself. A very nice stick! One of the best bundles I ever smoked. Draw, Construction and Burn were all top notch. The wrapper did have some spots, but for about $1.50 each, who cares! The taste was mild with hints of cedar and a touck of clove. I rated this stick overall a 8.65.

Good yard cigar

Smoked two bundles strait through. They are my "activity" cigar. Really gave off a wonderful aroma. Savored one while walking through an amusement park and heard folks say how good it smelled. Another time I was at a block shoot and I heard, "boy, you can tell an expensive cigar when you smell it". Besides the aromatic qualities, the smoke tastes great in your mouth and is wonderful when exhaled through your nose. I recommend this cigar to those who are on the go.

Very Nice, Constructed Well, Excellent Draw

I bought these as a substitue after a Famous line did not meet my expectations, the Roly Torpedo's do. You do need to keep them humidified for about 2 weeks; the draw is very good and the taste improves from butt to tip...nice aroma, not bitter or plastic as some comments about this cigar have been made. There was no unravelling of any sort and just hints of cedar for an after taste. I plan on buying more.

I expected more because of other reviews

I just smoked my first Roly. I bought it because of the rave reviews I read on line. The cigar started out milder than I expected. The flavor was OK but nothing exceptional, as I smoked it the strength improved from mild to medium and the flavor remained consistant. The burn was NOT GOOD. I had to keep relighting as in spots one side would burn faster than the other. I have had worse cigars but the best I can say for this one is it is mediocre, and we all know we don't smoke cigars for mediocre. We are chasing the wonderful taste we occasionally find- but for a better price.

Yep its a turd

These things have a harsh aftertaste. You can tell it's honduran but then my lips are overwelmed by the bitter aftertaste. They should warn you that these are made behind Rolando's factory in the sewer. They do get much better after you let em age a little. But a turd is still a turd after a couple of months, unless its outside and gets eaten by my mut. Well then I guess it eventually its still another turd... Good Value For What It Is.

I was skeptical about this cigar. I got it as part of a sampler about 6 months ago and I bet I've passed it up at least 30 times for something a bit more "mainstream". For the past couple of weeks, I've been going through the humi smoking some of the "why the heck did I buy this anyway" residents. This one is probably the biggest surprise of the bunch!
The cigar burned well, drew effortlessly, produced nice white ash and actually held a decent flavor. It was a little one-dimensional in taste but it wasn't bad. Given the price on this one, it delivered good value. It's a good yard or golf gar and a great alternative for when you don't want to break out a more expensive cigar.

I bought a bundle based on the reviews and good price. After two, I'd recommend them for those who like very full-bodied smokes (I usually go for Don Diego and other lighter blends). I found the taste good (but heavy), construction good, burning and ash good. These will be good to keep in the humidor and see how they hold up over time. Overall, I'd recommend them, but realize you're going to get a cigar with a little "punch."

pleasantly surprised!

I ordered a bundle of these a little while ago. When they arrived, I noticed that it said they were seconds* on the bundle packaging. You can imagine my disappointment...then I fired one up:
Toothy, fragrant, flavorful hearty wrapper in maduro. Effortless draw, firm ash. Produces big clouds of smoke, but will burn a little hot at the end. When I got mine, they were a little "wet". About a week in the humi and all was well. Mine seem to be a little on the spicy side, with tons of flavor. You really taste your money in this cigar. I would put these right next to La Vieja Habanas in taste quality, and value. A super find, and they are still cheap enough to give away! Definitely a great dollar stretcher for your regular rotation, as well. Trust me boys, you'll thank yourself later.
* Don't let the fact that they are seconds scare you off. Im halfway through a bundle, and I havent found a bad one yet.

I've smoked cigars for over 30 years. Brands come and go. Gain favor and fall from it. I smoked several bundles of Cetras last year and just got a bundle of Churchills. Great taste, miserable construction

This cigar has a suprisingly good taste but the burn is consistently atrocious. If you are willing to tolerate this cigar's lousy burn and butt-ugliness for the sake of good taste at a rock-bottom price this is a good cigar. I, however, will not make that sacrifice again. Consistantly inconsistant

I have tried several bundles (7 or so) over the past few months. What started out as a great smoke has gone down hill over the last 3 bundles. Approx. 50% burn right down the center...wrapper burns much slower than the "leaves" rolled inside. Speaking of the rolling.....numerous soft spots and some that wont draw at all. Some Good, Some Bad

I just order some more Roly#2 when they were on sale for $17.00 a bundle. I still think I got a great deal! I have tried #2, #4, torpedos and I think they make some good cigars but........ The bundle maduros that I got were rolled really loose and had a REALLY LIGHT draw so I have to go slowly with them so not to get an uneven burn, not a big problem for me. And the flavor with the maduros is weak. I have had them before and their flavor was good but with these, I don't know. I have already given a review for Roly's before and stated that I liked the maduros better than naturals, but not now. I also got a bundle of naturals and they are really good. Good construction, even burn, and a nice flavor. As for the torpedos, they also had a loose feel to them and light draw! Good flavor but at the end would get really harsh. I still would buy Roly's again and I hope this brand isn't starting that slide downhill.
