Fonseca Vintage Robusto 5 Pack
Another fine offering from Fonseca cigars in a 'vintage' edition. Handmade with the same expert craftsmanship as the regular Fonseca line, these cigars are made with carefully aged, vintage select Dominican fillers & binders and richer-tasting, high-grade, Ecuadorian natural wrappers with a marvelous aroma. An excellent cigar for mellowing-out after dinner with a glass of Fonseca Port, too!
Like other Fonseca I have smoked over the years, this one starts out with potential and turns into "hot mush" about 3" (of a 5") down. I wish they would burn consistently and maybe we'd get a better smoke. I've about given up on these.
I was surprised by this cigar from the Best of Fonseca sampler. I smoked a 5-50 a few hours before this one and the 5-50 was just a let down. This Vintage has to be my favorite in the sampler next to the Cubano or the Serie-F. It has a great burn, consistent taste, and a smooth draw. I had to put it out about 3/4 of the way down due to the heat but a very mellowing and rich smoke.
Today I tried this cigar and was delighted with it. tasty without being overpowering. The burn was right on with an 1 1/2 inch ash. Draw was very good. While sipping Jack Daniels, the experience was fantastic. I would recommend it to anyone.
This cigar was very well constructed, but the taste was bland, one-dimensional and unsatisfying. The burn and draw were excellent, though it did not produce a great deal of smoke. It looked nice and had a pleasant aroma. I kept waiting for the flavor to intensify, but it didn't happen. What flavor there was was woody and somewhat grassy. As good as it looked, it was disappointing and I got bored with it. I wouldn't buy again.
