Gran Habano cigars have come a long way since the 1920's when Guillermo Rico's grandfather began growing black tobacco in Cuba. In 1946 Guillermo's father took the reigns and he remembers following his dad through the tobacco fields as a child, and his mother rolling cigars at their home. Now in its fourth generation, George A. Rico has continued the Gran Habano family tradition, embedding it into every cigar made in Danlí, Honduras where, in 1998, the factory was established and became the birthplace of their premium Honduran cigar brands and their quintessential image and flavor.

In 2012 their G.R. Tabacaleras Co. factory opened in Miami, in Florida's famed "Little Havana" neighborhood on Calle Ocho (8th Street), serving as a base of operations for their Gran Habano Miami and Opium Miami cigars.

Gran Habano Blends

Opium cigars represent a totally unique smoking experience made in limited edition. Created by George A. Rico, who spent years experimenting with myriad wrappers, fillers, blends, and prototypes, the end result is a full-bodied Nicaraguan puro crafted with undisclosed, proprietary long-fillers and a Nicaraguan Habano Corojo hybrid wrapper. Due to the rare source of these tobaccos, Opium are limited edition cigars.

Opium Miami Special Edition cigars are made in Gran Habano's Little Havana factory. Made with Nicaraguan filler, binder, and Nicaraguan Habano Corojo hybrid wrappers, they were made more as a spin-off to the Honduran-made Corojo #5 line in an all-wide-ring selection.
