H. Upmann Nicaragua AJ Fernandez Sunrise

AJ Fernandez dips back into the H. Upmann catalog with H. Upmann Sunrise. This is the third installment in Upmann-Fernandez collaborations, following the H. Upmann Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez (2017), and H. Upmann Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez Heritage (2021).

While we wouldn’t put it at Mild strength, AJ – along with Rafael Nodal – are going milder with Sunrise. The Upmann folks call this “Connecticut done right…It’s smooth and easy to enjoy, but it still has flavor and character.” Sunrise boasts a golden Ecuador Connecticut-seed wrapper and Nicaraguan tobaccos, all of which are grown, fermented and aged by Fernandez in Nicaragua.

Based on the name it’s made for mornings, but we could smoke this all day: nuances of cedar, coffee, and roasted nuts dance across the palate, chased by a subtle sweetness and long-trailing spice. Still plenty of creamy Connecticut character, just from more of a Nicaraguan point of view – but hey, that’s AJ for you. An outstanding addition to the H.
