Raices Cubanas 1941 Nuevo Comienzo

Tucked away at the crossroads of two major thoroughfares in the heart of Danli, Honduras lies the renowned family-owned cigar factory named Raices Cubanas, Spanish for Cuban Roots. Driving through town, even at a leisurely pace, this humble landmark would be easy to miss. Yet, when the guard confirms your appointment and opens the gate, you are warmly greeted by Hugo Endemaño (president) with a hand extended to pull you in for a warm embrace. Leading into the building, it only takes a few steps to enter a world where some of the most iconic cigars in the market have been (and continue to be) made.

On the bustling production floor, all the tables are manned with skilled tabaqueros crafting every size and blend for brands like Alec Bradley, Illusione, Viaje, Padilla, and Olde Penn (a Famous Cigars Exclusive), among many others. Founded in 2003 by Romay and Maria Endemaño, it did not take long for some savvy cigar folk to recognize the blending talent this little factory had to offer as orders for production on special projects streamed through the door. 

Now riding on over two decades of success, the shift from making contract cigars to brands bearing the Raices Cubanas name had been long overdue. Their first wave of introductions came in 2024 and included four unique Raices Cubanas blends: Classico, GRD3, Liga De Reyes, and C5 Black. Cutting to the chase, let’s talk about their latest incarnation. The one that this buildup is all about. Let’s talk about Raices Cubanas 1941 Nuevo Comienzo. An homage to the patriarch and matriarch of Raices Cubanas, Romay and Maria, both born in 1941 and, after passing the baton to their son, Hugo several years ago, initiated their New Beginnings or Nuevo Comienzo, as printed on the band. 

Made with a proprietary wrapper grown on their Trojes farm in Honduras, this cigar is blended with two binders from Jamastran, Honduras, and Esteli, Nicaragua, and encapsulating four fillers from Jamastran, Trojes, Esteli, and Jalapa.
