The Romeo y Julieta Profundo is yet another in a long line of collaborations between master blenders A.J. Fernandez and Rafael Nodal, an extension of the Reserva Real Nicaragua line that’s been one of the fuller-bodied and more complex Romeo cigars we’ve recommended. But this is a whole new level: Profundo retains the velvety character that defines the Reserva Real, but this…WOW. Profundo is a 100 percent Nicaraguan puro, composed entirely of Nicaraguan wrapper, binder, and filler tobaccos. And the Romeo folks said this is medium-full, but we’d say it’s a 5 out of 5 for intensity. The reason is the rigorous fermentation AJ gives all of the tobaccos, starting with the dark Oscuro wrapper. The slow, long, and steady process resulted in this darker leaf, selected to unlock exceptional richness and aroma.
