La Gloria Cubana Coleccion Reserva cigars mark Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's second collaboration with his old friends at General Cigar since he went out on his own in 2009. Made with an all Nicaraguan filler core outfitted in a gorgeous Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, according to Ernesto, "The blend is very much in keeping with the spirit of the original La Gloria," adding that the Nicaraguan visos and ligeros that used for this blend "are La Gloria all the way," since they reminded him of the Nicaraguan tobaccos that were available back in the 1980s when he was making La Glorias full-time.
Made at Ernesto's La Alianza factory in the Dominican Republic, the La Gloria Cubana Coleccion Reserva is offered in three sizes - La Presidente, La Robusto, and La Torpedo - all of which boast a 54-ring gauge. The smoke is full-flavored with spot-on balance and issues notes of earthy spice, sweet cedar, light pepper, tangy citrus, and caramel.
If you're old enough to remember the original La Glorias, you'll appreciate what Ernesto has done here. If you're not, it doesn't matter, since this cigar is a true standout on its own. Add-in the reasonable price and you've got a genuine "must-smoke" for expanding your collection.
