Caldwell founders will tell you that their business model is simple: good cigars, great friends and a strong conscience. They say they are a company built by friends, for friends - and their commitment to produce outstanding products in unparalleled.
Robert Caldwell claims that that he started a cigar company when he realized there was nothing else he could do with his life. He focused on perfection, and on showing the world how his purpose became the making of Caldwell cigars; and it hasn't gone unnoticed. His unbridled passion for the entire cigar making process is inspiring: from sourcing the tobacco from fields across the world, to developing wickedly flavorful blends and coming up with wild names for his creations along with unique and head-turning packaging.
In a live online chat interview, Caldwell talked about the things that inspire him on a daily basis. "I see things all the time that inspire me. Any type of good marketing or branding you just take from things around you. I just use catchy things I've seen over the years. I keep a brand book with over 100 names and brands that I add to. If I hear a catchy song or idea, I build a concept around it and that's how a brand comes to life. Even other cigar companies call me asking for help with concepts. It's a real hobby of mine; I love brainstorming on new brands and concepts."
As the old saying goes, the proof is in the pudding, and all the interesting names and inventive designs won't get you anywhere if your product doesn't deliver and that's why Robert works so hard at creating blends that cigar smokers have come to love. Many of the reviewers from the most noted cigar publications, both print and online have given the Caldwell lines incredibly high marks which has risen this boutique brand to new heights in a very short period of time.
Famous Smoke Shop features several of Caldwell cigars finest blends. He only uses all grade-A tobaccos in his small-batch blended cigars as he searches the world for the finest and most exotic leaf. Eastern Standard is a medium bodied stick with a complex mix of premium aged tobaccos such as Corojo Ligero, Nicaraguan Habano and Dominican Criollo '98 Viso fillers and a Dominican Habano binder. This cigar's beautiful wrapper leaf is a dark Connecticut hybrid of Connecticut Shade and Brazilian Mata Fina.
One of the most often-discussed sticks in the Caldwell cigars lineup, The King is Dead is a medium to full-bodied treat that is an all Dominican puro with filler and binder from the DR and a supple Dominican Negrito wrapper.
