Nestor Miranda cigars are named for one of the most colorful and talented men in the cigar business. Hailing originally from Holguin, Cuba, Nestor and his wife Mariana made their home in Miami, FL and started Miami Cigar & Company in 1989. Since Nestor had come from the liquor business, their first cigars were sold through liquor stores. During their first year, in what was then a small family business, the Mirandas sold 40,000 cigars, and today the company is one of the world's leading distributors of premium cigars. In addition to the Nestor Miranda Collection, which is made at the My Father Cigars S.A. factory in Nicaragua, Miami Cigar is also the exclusive representative for La Aurora, Don Lino, Leon Jimenes, Tatiana flavored cigars, La Sirena, and Viva Republica cigars, all of which are made in the Dominican Republic.
In 2014 the Nestor Miranda Special Selection was rebranded and unified under one banner as the Nestor Miranda Collection. Presented in three editions, each blend has been given its own color scheme - blue (Connecticut), green (Habano), red (Maduro) - and is offered in four sizes: Robusto (4½"" x 50), Corona Gorda (6"" x 46), Toro (5½: x 54), and Gordo (6"" x 60).
The Nestor Miranda Collection Connecticut is a rebranded version of the original Nestor Miranda Special Selection Connecticut; while it retains its full-bodied blend of Nicaraguan, Honduran, and Dominican long-filler tobaccos and Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, only the packaging and bands have changed. These are not strong cigars; they're full-flavored, offering an earthy, woody, and naturally sweet flavor profile for a rich and complex cigar that's tailor-made for the cigar aficionado, yet smooth and creamy enough for new cigar smokers seeking a very satisfying medium body smoke.
Nestor Miranda Maduro Collection cigars were created for the brand re-launch by Miami Cigar & Company VP, Jason Wood. A dark chocolate-colored Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper surrounds a perfectly-balanced blend of Peruvian, Nicaraguan, and Dominican long-fillers for a full-bodied smoke that fans of Don Pepin cigars will relate to. Upon lighting, a salvo of red pepper smacks the palate, rounding out to flavors of cocoa, espresso, and sweet spices in the latter stages for a remarkably complex smoke that ranks it with the best maduro cigars on the market.
There's nothing like the flavor of perfectly cured and aged Nicaraguan Habano wrapper, like the one use for the Nestor Miranda Habano Collection. Seamlessly rolled around a core blend of Nicaraguan, Honduran, and Brazilian long filler tobaccos, these full-bodied cigars hit the ground running with a shot of pepper as flavors of sweet tobacco and cedar edge their way in. By the last act, the smoke is running at full-throttle complexity with notes of sweet spice and coffee entering the mix.
