Tatuaje Cigars Company

Cigars from Tatuaje have an incredibly loyal following as does its creator, Mr. Pete Johnson. The name Tatuaje means tattoo in Spanish as Pete, himself is covered in decorative ink. The brand was developed and released back in 2003 as a collaboration between Johnson and famed master blender, Don Pepin Garcia. The following year in the October, 2004, issue of Cigar Aficionado, their Tatuaje Cabinet Especiales was given the remarkably high rating of 90 and the brand was officially on the map.

All Tatuaje Cigars are Nicaraguan puros, meaning that all the tobaccos used are from that same country, although from various growing regions. They are made at the My Father Cigars Factory, owned by Don Pepin, in Esteli, Nicaragua. They are known for being full-bodied, full-flavored smokes that are generally appreciated by those with a more seasoned cigar smoking palate.

Pete Johnson originally hails from Maine and as a bass player who sought a career in music, moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18. After grinding it out in the band life, he took a job in a cigar store and his love of the leaf began.

In his 2012 interview with Cigar Aficionado Magazine, Johnson was quoted as saying, "In 2003 it was a hobby. In 2004 it started to become a business. In 2006 I said I should do this full time, or I shouldn't do it at all. I realized I had something. There's so many people coming out with new brands and there's a lot of great ones coming out. Even now I have to step up my game to make sure my brand stays viable."

Pete Johnson continues to take Tatuaje Cigars to higher levels and without question the brand is more popular than ever.
