Arguably some of the best boutique cigars on the market, Viva Republica cigars were born out of a desire to bring something fresh and new to the cigar industry. To realize this desire, brand founder, Jason Holly, partnered with the legendary Guillermo Leon of Miami Cigar & Co. Lucky for him, because Viva Republica are made at the La Aurora cigar factory in the Dominican Republic, which has given Holly access to tobaccos that most small boutique cigar brands don't have.
Coupled with Leon's guidance and the substantial resources of his factory, Viva Republica was able to fast-track projects and focus their efforts on crafting hundreds of prototypes of limited edition cigars, geared to appeal to today's cigar aficionados. The concept for Viva Republica was to create blends that have "serious flavor, regardless of the strength profile of the cigar," rather than following the trend of strong, "knock-you-on-your-ass" cigars. The resulting blends use methods of rolling that have never been used before and rare cigar tobaccos that, through aging, are more balanced than some mass produced cigars. "Our core belief is that we will never sacrifice flavor for strength," adds Holly. "When blended and rolled with [these] new methods - you can have powerful strength and robust flavor." Viva Republica cigars are offered in four unique blends: Rapture Natural, Rapture Maduro, Propaganda, and Guerilla Warfare.
Blended with Nicaraguan, Brazilian, Peruvian, and Dominican long filler tobaccos, a Dominican Corojo binder and an Ecuadorian Havana Vuelta Abajo wrapper, Viva Republica Rapture Natural cigars offer a naturally sweet medium-bodied smoke with an alluring flora aroma. The smoke is laced with perfectly-balanced flavors of nuts, sweet wood, and earthiness. The Viva Republica Rapture Maduro boasts a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, revealing a spicier character that leads with rich coffee and cocoa flavors.
Viva Republica Guerilla Warfare cigars are even more complex, revealing flavors of cocoa, espresso, cedar wood and a lot more pepper in the early stages. A blend of Brazilian, Dominican, and Nicaraguan tobaccos, a dual Dominican/Mexican binder and Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper make for a full-bodied cigar teeming with flavorful surprises. One of the most popular "go-to" selections for both experienced and new cigar smokers is the Viva Republica Propaganda cigars selection. Its ultra-smooth smoke come from a diverse blend of Nicaraguan, Ecuadorian, Dominican and U.S. Pennsylvania tobaccos, Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and a Brazilian Magico (pronounced, "mah-hee-ko") wrapper leaf. Earthy flavors of leather, coffee, sweet tobacco, chocolate, and a nip of pepper make for a complex and satisfying smoke with an equally pleasing aroma. The Viva Republica Edición Limitada Culebra is a distinctive figurado inspired by the classic Cuban cigar. Usually made from one blend, this twisted trio is woven with a Viva Republica Rapture Natural, a Guerilla Warfare, and a Rapture Maduro. Not only is this a great way to sample the Viva Republica line, the crooked shape also makes it an eye-catching conversation piece.
