Tabacalera La Alianza Cigars
Tabacalera La Alianza is the boutique heartbeat of the Dominican Republic, serving as the personal playground for the "Godfather of Boutique Blending," Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. After building the legendary La Gloria Cubana brand, Ernesto founded La Alianza in Santiago in 2009 to regain the creative freedom he'd lost after selling to General Cigar. Now known as Casa Carrillo, the factory represents over 40 years of industry mastery distilled into one of the most respected boutique operations in the world.
Under the E.P. Carrillo brand, Ernesto crafts cigars that blend luxury, tradition, and uncompromising quality. The Core line offers balanced, approachable profiles with Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos under Ecuadorian wrappers, delivering medium-bodied smoke with cedar, cream, and spice. The Inch line plays with unconventional vitolas, offering short, thick formats that pack bold flavor into quick smoke times. Dusk and Dawn represent opposite ends of the strength spectrum, with Dusk bringing dark San Andrés maduro for full-bodied richness and Dawn offering Connecticut Shade for smooth, elegant mornings.
La Historia stands as Ernesto's most acclaimed blend, using rare tobaccos aged up to ten years and earning multiple 90-plus ratings. The 1979 line celebrates Ernesto's first cigar factory with Nicaraguan puros that showcase his mastery of bold, layered tobacco. Pledge pays tribute to American values with a patriotic band and balanced Dominican-Nicaraguan core. Allegiance ups the intensity with Nicaraguan Habano over Nicaraguan fillers for full-bodied earth, pepper, and spice.
This isn't a factory churning out volume contracts; it's a personal playground where one of the industry's most respected names pushes Dominican tobacco to its highest level. When you smoke an E.P. Carrillo, you're experiencing the vision of a true legend who's been shaping boutique cigars since before boutique was even a category.
