Villiger Cigars
Villiger is a brand defined by more than 130 years of Swiss precision and a global perspective on tobacco sourcing. Founded in 1888 by Jean Villiger in Pfeffikon, Switzerland, the company has grown from a local operation into one of the largest cigar manufacturers in the world today. Under the long-standing leadership of the late Heinrich Villiger, the brand earned a reputation for technical excellence and compositional art that bridges the gap between machine-made accessibility and high-end boutique hand-rolling.
Louise Villiger founded a subsidiary in Tiengen, Germany in 1910, marking the company's first international expansion. After World War I, her sons Hans and Max drove Villiger's continuing growth through regular product innovation. In 2008, Villiger celebrated its 120th anniversary by launching Villiger 1888, the brand's first handmade long-filler cigar, named to commemorate the company's founding year. Made in the Dominican Republic, the 1888 line comes in Corona, Robusto, and Short Robusto formats with a blend of fine tobaccos that remains a closely guarded secret.
In 2022, Villiger opened a new factory in Nicaragua, inspiring the creation of Villiger 1888 Nicaragua. This three-format line rolls Nicaraguan binder bunched with fillers from Nicaragua and Pennsylvania inside an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The medium-plus smoke delivers subtle notes of leather and pepper with impressions of roasted nuts, mocha, and a sweet caramel finish. Presented in elegant blue boxes of 20 cigars, this Nicaraguan-forward blend reinvented the 1888 at a very reasonable price.
Beyond handmades, Villiger's famous dry-cured Export lines and machine-made offerings deliver consistent quality and convenience at accessible price points. The brand's ability to produce everything from quick, convenient smokes to premium handmade long-fillers demonstrates its versatility and commitment to serving smokers at every level. Villiger Premium Cigars showcase Dominican and Brazilian tobaccos with refined construction and balanced profiles.
Villiger's Swiss heritage shines through in every cigar, blending Old World craftsmanship with modern production techniques. Whether you're reaching for a quick machine-made or a carefully aged handmade long-filler, Villiger delivers Swiss precision, global tobacco expertise, and over 130 years of family tradition in every single smoke.
