2017 CA Report: Best Humidors Under $100
Cigar Advisor Report: Best Humidors Under $100
By Fred Lunt
It’s time, my friend...the day has come to let your old humidor go and move on to bigger and better things. Odds are, your cigar collection has reached a point where you now need either a real humidor, or a bigger one to accommodate those new cigar additions you’ve been pining for. But what do you need to look for when getting a new humidor - and how to stretch your cigar dollar to get your smokes into some of the better humidors, on the cheap?
Sounds easy enough, right? While shopping, keep in mind the number of cigars you already have and the amount you plan on buying and keeping around. If you buy a box or a few 5 packs once a month then a 100 count humidor should be perfect; but if you plan on amassing an army of luscious cigars then it’s time for a bigger humidor (and maybe sit down for a special talk).
Perhaps the most important aspect of a humidor is how well it seals. The best humidors seal tight around all 4 sides, as a tight seal ensures that your humidor will hold its humidity and your cigars will stay nice and fresh. You can tell a humidor has a good seal when you feel that whoosh of air as you close your humidor. If you think you have a faulty seal, you can always try this tip from Tommy Zman and see for yourself.
While these are crucial factors, there’re a few others points of inspection that fellow Advisor John Pullo covered in a previous article.
Now, to my picks...by combining customer reviews with quality of materials and brand reputation, these are the best humidors I can recommend for the money - if you want to keep it under a hundred bucks, and if you want to feel good about giving your cigars a quality home.
Craftsman’s Bench La Salle Humidor
Capacity: 25 Cigars
This is it. The time has come to let go of the Tupperware and put your cigars in a home that’s rightly fit. This is your first real humidor and there’s no reason it shouldn't look the part. Enter La Salle, from Craftsman's Bench - makers of some of the best humidors in the USA...and she is a real beaut. While she’s easy on the budget, the La Salle is easier on the eyes with a gorgeous red wood finish and an exotic burled wood center piece. This humidor is the perfect size to start with while you grow your collection.
Amalfi Antique Humidor
Capacity: 75 Cigars
Want to add some retro-style class to your cigar stash? Well say no more; this aesthetically pleasing humidor features a maple veneer and French Walnut finish. Holds 75 cigars and comes with an engraving plate for a little customization action. A great second-humidor to step-up from your first.
Craftsman’s Bench Grayson Humidor
Capacity: 90 Cigars
Craftsman’s Bench is known for high quality humidors, and while you can’t go wrong with any of their products you’re in the right with Grayson. A stunning wood/veneer finish over Spanish Cedar adorns this humidor; it’s so nice you’d swear it costs 3x the price. This is a must-have upgrade.
The Deauville Tobacco Leaf Inlay Humidor
Capacity: 125 Cigars
Ready to beef up your Mancave décor? The Deauville humidor brings just the right amount of fashion to function in a classy Maple wood veneer finish with a high-glossed tobacco leaf intricately displayed on top. Complete with a gold-plated lock and key to keep out any unwanted guests. The handles and hardware are also gold-plated for a touch of elegance. Inside you’ll find fragrant, kiln dried Spanish Cedar lining with adjustable trays and dividers. An affordable addition to any guy’s Mancave.
The Bar Top Glass Display Humidor
Capacity: 100 Cigars
If your liquor cabinet is also looking a little lackluster, this one goes out to you. The Bar Top Glass Display humidor is for the cigar enthusiast who likes to entertain. Proudly display those cigars with a beautiful glass top humidor with a Cherry Maple veneer finish, all brass hardware, and a lock and key to keep those in-laws from grabbing at your cigars.
Xikar 50 Count Travel Humidor
Capacity: 50 Cigars
If you’re looking for an upgrade but always on the move, a travel humidor might be a better option for you. Like I always say, you can never go wrong with a Xikar; their quality-made accessories are US made and guaranteed for life. While smaller options are available, this 50-count humidor is airtight, waterproof, and crushproof - making it (arguably) one of the best humidors for on the go. They also use a high-density foam to protect those cigars while you’re hitting the road or letting the TSA man-handle your luggage. If, by some act of God, this humidor breaks, Xikar guarantees their product for life so send them the remnants and they’ll replace it for you.
