CA Report: Top New Cigars (April 28th, 2025)
While I may start to sound like a broken record, with all this rain this last month I’ve become a shill for the cigar lounge. But with the occasional hot and sunny day, I’ve been rejoicing at the chance to enjoy a cigar on my porch under the sun. There are few times to smoke that are better than that.
Here’s this week’s top new cigars, as always make sure to check out our new arrivals page to see new blends as they come in.
League of Fat Bastards Serie O
Wrapper: Mexican San Andres
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Nicaraguan
You might have already heard us talk about this cigar during a Panel Review a few months back. I’m bringing it back to the forefront now because I really can’t express enough how much I love this cigar. For one, 40% of all profits on this cigar are donated to men’s mental health resources. So, this is a cigar that is giving back to a great cause, while also just being a high-quality blend. This cigar is out of Joya De Nicaragua, and I think Pullo said it best when he said that this blend gives their best a run for their money. For me personally, this is an early front-runner for one of my personal favorites of the year so I can’t recommend it enough. Add a couple to your humidor today.
Montecristo M
Wrapper: Connecticut
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Montecristo is one of those brand names that everyone in the cigar hobby is aware of. Now, I should give a brief warning about these 'beauts. They’re on the pricier end, being about 30 dollars a smoke, depending on which vitola you choose. When I see a cigar with that high a cost, I always have two questions: what about the cigar is so special, and whether it’s worth the value. Let’s answer the former first: this is a blend crafted by AJ Fernandez, and the tobaccos in this blend were aged for 20 years.
As for the second of those two questions? At least for me, I’m happy to say that this certainly is worth the extra couple of bucks. When they described this cigar as an ultra-premium, they weren’t kidding. The aged tobaccos really bring a lot of complexity to the smoke that’s hard to beat. You can expect to find some mineral, creamy and sweet flavor notes that develop throughout the whole experience. If you’re able to toss an extra couple bucks at a cigar coming up, seek out this blend. It’s one you won’t want to miss.
Plasencia Year of Snake
Wrapper: Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Come celebrate the Lunar New Year with me…now, we might be a little bit further away from the actual date of Lunar New Year, but when this blend came across my desk, I knew I would have to talk about it on here. We’d already gone over one cigar that punches up towards that ultra-premium price, and again this one absolutely earns that price tag. Everything from the package to the flavor just emits style and quality. The twisting Culebras that come inside each box are especially slick and stand out, plus the Lanceros that make up most of the box too are very nice with excellent color and a nice oily wrapper. This is a package you’re not going to see anywhere, and it’s sure to go away soon. Make sure to jump on the offer first chance you get!
