Are these travel humidors as tough as they look?

Cigar Travel Humidor Crash Test Video
Of course, you might be wondering…will you ever have to really worry about your cigars enduring the force of a two-and-a-half story drop, and whether or not your travel humi is going to be able to take the abuse? Probably not – unless they somehow decide to let themselves out of a moving car, or your wife or girlfriend decide to throw them at you out of a 2 1/2 story window (along with the rest of your stuff) when they throw you out of the house. But we figure, why not test to extremes? Besides – it gives us a good opportunity to break stuff.
So the CigarAdvisor.com editors – John Pullo, Gary Korb, Tommy Zman and Fred Lunt – identified the target drop zone, set up the gear (calling in a drone and slo-motion cameras) on the premises of the Famous Smoke Shop headquarters in Easton, PA, and chose three of the most popular travel humidors: 5, 15, and 30 cigar capacity models, all made of supposedly impact-resistant ABS plastic. Starting with the 5-cigar model, each travel humidor was filled to capacity with cigars, then dropped from the roof of the building – a distance of 25 feet – to see if its hard-shell case, and the cigars inside, could withstand the impact.
Without giving away too much, we should say that the resulting wreckage was actually quite remarkable; watch now, and see for yourself:

So as you could see, the results range from the case taking the fall in stride, and protecting most (if not all) of the cigars inside – to the humidor completely disassembling itself upon impact. For the record, one took the hit so well it led us to believe you could probably use that humi to fight off an intruder, and possibly club him to death with it.
This is, of course, a non-scientific test – but we’re pretty confident you can, and should, use these results to help make up your mind for your cigar travel case purchase:
