EL 2023 Marks Return of Connecticut Broadleaf Wrapper

The release of the eagerly awaited Las Calaveras EL 2023 cigars line marks it as the tenth installment for the Crowned Heads annual bestseller. For the first time since 2016, this year’s release also marks the return of a Grade A Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper.

“We’re bringing the Broadleaf back for ’23,” said Crowned Heads co-founder, Jon Huber. “I’ve held My Father Cigars and the Garcia family in such high regard, especially when it came to their use of Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The 2023 Las Calaveras blend has so much going on in terms of what you’d expect from a My Father Broadleaf blend, everything from pepper to chocolate to earth, all impeccably and consistently balanced.”

First released in 2014, every year the Las Calaveras line pays tribute to those who have crossed-over during the previous year and is intended to be a celebration of life and remembrance. Each year, the initials of each dearly departed are embossed on one of the four coins seen on the cigars’ bands. As done in past releases, the cigars are presented in boxes of 24 cigars divided into three rows of eight. The number 8 is used to symbolize the “infinity” of everlasting life, while the three rows symbolize the three beginning, middle, and end stages of the life cycle.

Produced at My Father Cigars in Estelí, Nicaragua, a total of 1,500 boxes of each vitola—LC50 (5”x50), LC52 (6”x52), and LC54 (55/8”x54)—have been made for this year’s release. Crowned Heads has also made 3,000 of the highly popular Las Calaveras 2023 four pack samplers which include an exclusive Las Calaveras EL 2023 Belicoso Fino (5½”x52).

“This will be the first time we’ve featured a Belicoso Fino as the sampler-exclusive vitola, and the first time we’ve produced that vitola with My Father Cigars,” added Mr. Huber.

Expected to reach cigar stores in June, the MSRP for the Las Calaveras EL 2023 cigars will range from $12.95 to $14.95 per cigar, while the 4-cigar sampler will retail for $54.95.  CA
