MY WEEKEND CIGAR: Por Larrañaga 1834 Cigar Review
By Gary Korb
A Mellow Morning Companion That Will Love You Long Time
Sometimes you just want a cigar that’s beautiful in its simplicity. That’s what I love about the Por Larrañaga 1834 Toro. It’s attractive to look at, mellow in body, rolled deftly enough to promise a long, relaxing smoke, and just plain tasty – especially on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
POR LARRANAGA 1834 TORO

My Experience: On this particular weekend morning, I was in the mood for a cigar that was mellow, nutty, very smooth and would complement my coffee. As I rummaged through my humidor, my eye caught the colorful neoclassical artwork that graces the band of this Por Larrañaga 1834. It had been in my humidor for at least a year or two and it was more than ready. The blonde Ecuadorian wrapper was seamlessly rolled around this 6″ x 50 number and even in color from head to toe.
The triple seam cap cut perfectly, and once lit, I was hit by its redolent aroma, effortless draw, ultra-smooth smoke, and its mild, nutty-spiciness, as notes of sweet cedar lingered on my palate. Even more impressive was how slowly and evenly the cigar burned – we’re talkin’ two and a half hours! That’s a two mugger, my friends.
Suffice it to say . . . the Por Larrañaga 1834 Toro is a classic beauty that smokes so perfectly, consistently, and delectably, all you have to do is light it and let it do its thing. Not only is it a great starter cigar for newbs, it’s an enjoyably mellow change-of-pace for those who’ve acquired a taste for the heartier Nicaraguan fare (like moi). The core tobaccos are vintage Dominican, too, and when you put it all together, you’ve got yourself a truly first-class smoke that’s perfect for that first cigar of the day, or a relaxing afternoon treat.
