Dipping your cigars

Q. Can you comment on dipping a cigar into liquor to enhance its taste?
– Jonathanin Maryland

A. I first witnessed this about seven years ago when I saw a fellow cigar industry executive dip the head of his cigar in his glass of scotch. I’ve tried it occasionly with Port. Actually, it’s not too bad, but the flavor of the liquor tends to dissipate rather quickly. However, I don’t think it enhances the flavor of the cigar any more than just following a puff with a sip. It’s one of those things worth trying at least once. The downside is, it tends to make the head mushy.
