Cigar News: Macanudo & Flint Knoll Winery Reunite for Estate Reserve No.2
Limited Edition Release Features Proprietary Wine-Barrel-Aged Tobacco
Macanudo Cigars continues its collaboration with Napa Valley’s Flint Knoll Winery for the production of Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll No 2 cigars. The two vitola, limited-edition selection draws its unique flavor characteristics by using tobaccos aged in French Oak barrels. These are the same wine barrels Flint Knoll used to make their 2019 Royal Appointment Cabernet Sauvignon. Additionally, the Napa Valley’s 2019 growing season provided optimal conditions resulting in a complex, fruit-forward wine with intriguing spice. Using a proprietary tobacco aging process, those very notes have transferred their influence from the walls of the barrels to the U.S. Connecticut Broadleaf binder tobacco.
“Together with Jhonys Diaz, Yuri Guillen and our blend development team at General Cigar Dominicana we created a new method of aging binder leaf in wine barrels for Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll,” said Justin Andrews, new business development manager for Scandinavian Tobacco Group. “It was a time and labor-intensive process, one that had us test binder varietals and aging duration. We ultimately achieved the complexity and nuances we were looking for in the smoking experience.”
Handcrafted in Santiago, Dominican Republic at General Cigar Dominicana, Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll Release No. 2 cigars are blended with six tobaccos from five countries and starts with a silky, specially selected Ecuador-grown Connecticut Shade wrapper. Beneath the wrapper lies the U.S. Connecticut Broadleaf binder that underwent the special barrel aging process. The fillers are a well-balanced blend of Brazilian Mata Fina, Dominican Olor, Nicaraguan Jalapa and Dominican Piloto Cubano. Medium in body the cigar delivers a complex smoking experience with an indulgent finish like that of Flint Knoll’s world class Cabernet Sauvignon.
“By aging the binder leaf in our French Oak barrels, the complexity and spice of our 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon comes to life in a distinctive new smoking experience that’s spicier than the original release,” said Flint Knoll Proprietor, Aaron Michaelis. “Those who enjoy Macanudo Estate Reserve No.2 should expect a cigar with notes of creamy vanilla, toasted almonds, dark currants and cedar.”
Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll Release No.2 is presented in two sizes, Toro and Churchill, adorned with white bands with copper filigree accents and are packaged in handmade wooden boxes of 10 cigars.
