MY WEEKEND CIGAR REVIEW: CAMACHO FACTORY UNLEASHED 3

VIDEO CIGAR REVIEW: CAMACHO FACTORY UNLEASHED 3

A Scorpion with an Exhilarating Sting

The annual Camacho Factory Unleashed cigars are limited edition releases that provide a peak into the Camacho factory’s wealth of blending and handcrafting talent. As Camacho’s Director of Marketing and Retail, Lana Fraser, put it: “Our mission is to venture off the beaten path to provide bold and unique blends that showcase what truly makes our Camacho Factory unique.”

Like the previous two years, the Camacho Factory Unleashed 3 continues its tradition of being rolled in a 6×50 vitola with a maduro wrapper and a shaggy foot. For the wrapper, this year the blending team decided to go with a Mexican San Andrés Maduro and produced a total of 125,000 cigars broken into 100 ct. crates and butcher paper wrapped bundles of 10.

Cigar Details:

Camacho Unleashed 3 Cigar Review

First-off, kudos to the Camacho factory for Unleashed 3’s exceptional construction. The wrapper is slightly toothy and veiny. It bears an even ebony color, a bit of oil on the surface, and stops at the last half inch to show-off the cigar’s shaggy foot. After cutting, the prelight draw was very good and offered a mix of earth and plum.

The first puffs issued a pleasant smoothness with a dry woodiness and a hint of walnut. By the first half inch, the smoke was dense, creamy, and medium bodied with a combination of leather, subtle sweetness, and tart fruit on a slightly dry finish. Shortly afterwards, the cigar smoothed-out even further revealing a tart cherry flavor and some additional spice. A hint of nutmeg also saluted me as the smoke gained in creaminess, body, and strength.

Leather and dark chocolate arrived at the midpoint. The burn was textbook. After removing the band (about 3 inches remaining), the cigar was still creamy, even nuttier, and now full-bodied with drive-by spikes of cedar, leather, earthy sweetness, and light cinnamon.

The final inches is where the scorpion unleashed its earthy, woody, and spicy wrath. Nuts, dark chocolate, and leather sank deeper into the mix. That sequence kept me going until just over an inch remained (see my photo below).

Was Camacho Unleashed 3 Weekend Worthy?

I was impressed by the Camacho Unleashed 3’s overall performance and flavor. As advertised, it offered plenty of fullness, flavor, and complexity. Plus, the Camacho factory team certainly did an excellent job making the cigar smooth and vibrant. At times the cigar was a little too dark and earthy, but the combination of flavors kept it interesting and prevented it from going any further down that road.

Bold and vivid, the Camacho Factory Unleashed 3 is an unbridled flavor bomb. To be clear, it’s not all over the place, because in some ways it’s quite restrained. With that, I feel like it’s geared for cigar smokers with a reasonable amount cigar smoking experience, especially those who already enjoy the mainline Camacho cigars. Based on my two sessions, I think the Unleashed 3 comes at a pretty fair price, too.
