Cigar Advisor Picks: Top New Cigars (Dec 1, 2017)

By Fred Lunt

We’re back for the next round – and it’s the Rocky Christmas Show edition of Top New Cigars! The clock is ticking down to Christmas and we’re working our fingers to the nubs to bring you the best new cigars for the holidays.

This week we have the Fumas series by Rocky Patel, an exclusive line to Famous Smoke Shop that’s guaranteed to pack a punch on a light budget. That’s right – we have not one, but four of Rocky’s best budget blends.

Santa might give you coal if you sneak a peek, but we don’t give a damn – take a peek at these pre-Christmas smokes all you want!

Rocky Patel Cuban Blend Fumas

Those presents aren’t cheap. Cue the Cuban Blend Fumas, a full-bodied budget version of the original Cuban Blend. Like the original, this premium comes in a mixed-filler ligero blend of Honduran tobaccos in your choice of Nicaraguan Corojo and Corojo maduro. Brimming with hearty flavors, these budget smokes don’t bite.

Rocky Patel American Market Selection Fumas

The American Market Selection has long been touted as a best-buy deal, but we threw a bargain on a bargain. The Fumas delivers every bit of the AMS’ flavor with a mix of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos wrapped neatly in a buttery Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper that cozies up nicely to a dark roasted coffee.

Rocky Patel Rosado Fumas

While the original scored high ratings, the Fumas version uses that same meticulous blending of smooth Dominican and Nicaraguan binder and filler topped off in a luxurious 5-year aged Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. A medium-bodied smoke that’s steeped in sweet ‘n spicy flavors and aromas.

Rocky Patel Sun Grown Fumas

If you’re like myself, you may be wondering if there’s ANYTHING that can make this easier, and yes there is – light up a Fumas. While the Sun Grown Fumas still have that aged, 3-nation blend, the Ecuadorian wrapper kicks things up with a spicy sweetness in full-bodied glory.

That’s it for this week – stay tuned for the new cigars we have for Christmas!

Rockiy Patel is a master marketer. He appears to take special care in rolling out a new blend and promotes them with fervor. Then he moves on to his next “sexy” idea for a brand. In short order his labels give new meaning to inconsistency. Bad to no draw, uneven burn and canoes that could launch an expedition. If you want to enjoy a Rocky Patel blend get a stick from the initial launch. If you miss the boat you can always catch a canoe at a latter date. If you like frustration in your smoke try a Rocky Patel.

Fumas traditionally means that it’s made from the leftover tobacco from the cutting room. Considering the regular runs of these cigars are budget brands as it is, I’m very skeptical about this stuff even with the Rocky Patel name on it.
