CA Report: Top New Cigars (Dec 9 2019)

Depending on where you live, December can be a somber month for cigar smokers. Freezing temperatures make enjoying a cigar outside during the winter months all but impossible. Behold! There is hope in the form of your local cigar lounge. Especially if it’s Leaf Cigar Bar in Easton, Pa. Cozy on into the warmth, settle in, and thaw out while we introduce you to the newest cigars to hit Famous Smoke Shop.

We’re featuring some incredible blends from the likes of Aganorsa Leaf, Macanudo, E.P. Carrillo, Drew Estate, Alec & Bradley, and VUDU in this edition.

It might be cold, but these cigars are hot off the rolling table – so let’s dive in and see what’s worth smokin’!

CIGAR SPOTLIGHT: OUR MUST-SMOKE CIGAR OF THE WEEK

JFR Lunatic Hysteria by Aganorsa Leaf

Wrapper: Mexican San Andres
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

The latest of Aganorsa Leaf exclusives to hit Famous Smoke Shop, Lunatic Hysteria is a contender for the crown in the strength department. Generous servings of earth, spices, rich tobacco, coffee, and plenty of pepper will keep you warm on these blustery days like a flask full of Johnny Walker Blue Label stowed inside your coat. If you like the fullest of strong cigars, but don’t want merely a pepper fest that’s lax on flavor, this blend will give you a proper run for your money.

M Bourbon by Macanudo

Wrapper: Ecuador Connecticut
Binder: Ecuador
Filler: Dominican Republic

Thanksgiving just ended and Christmas is nipping at its heels. It doesn’t seem like there’s an end to the madness in sight…until you find M Bourbon by Macanudo. Earlier this year, Mac surprised the industry with the release of its first infused blend, the coffee-laced M. This follow-up, unlike many spirit-infused cigars, isn’t bitter or harsh. Modeled after the taste of an Old Fashioned, M Bourbon smokes sweet with notes of banana, fruit and bitters, and a mellow, creamy appeal. If anything’s gonna cure the winter blues, it’s smoking one of these by the fire.

INCH by E.P. Carrillo Limited Edition 2019

Wrapper: U.S. Connecticut Habano
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

What’s in a name? The Inch by E.P. Carrillo Limitada 2019’s portly 64-ring gauge is exactly one inch wide. The heft of the cigar is surely going to be lauded by E.P.C. fans, but what’s more is that with a medium-bodied approach in the blending process, new fans are sure to jump on board, too. Creamy, smooth, and spicy is the order of the day, but above that is a steady balance. He was 2018’s blender of the year for a reason, and Inch Limitada 2019 will give you a tasty reminder.

Liga Undercrown Shady XX and Dogma

Wrapper: Mexican San Andres
Binder: T52 Connecticut Stalk-Cut Habano
Filler: Brazilian Mata Fina and Nicaragua

Two new sizes have been added to the Liga Privada Undercrown portfolio recently. Both have the same blend as the original, but each offers a new size to be enjoyed. We start with the limited-edition 5” x 50 Belicoso, Shady XX, a joint venture between Marshall Mather’s (aka Eminem/Slim Shady) Shady Records and Drew Estate. Then comes Dogma, a 6” x 56 Double Toro. Fans will tell you…their limited runs move fast, so if you want to try them out, you’ll have to be quick on the draw.

Alec & Bradley Gatekeeper

Wrapper: Ecuador Habano
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Dominican Republic and Nicaragua

Nope, it isn’t a typo. It’s Alec and Bradley. They’re the sons of…you guessed it…Alan Rubin, founder of Alec Bradley Cigars. And they’re following in their father’s footsteps yet again. After the success of Blind Faith, the duo huddled with fabled cigarmaker, Ernesto-Perez Carrillo for Gatekeeper. Spice, sweetness, earth, cedar and citrus make for one helluva deliciously complex cigar. If you’re a full-bodied fan, there’s lots here to love. Why not give yourself the gift of flavor? This season, smoke a new cigar with one of the finest pedigrees in the industry.

VUDU Habano, San Andres, and Broadleaf by Jesus Fuego

Wrapper: Ecuador Habano/Mexican San Andres/Broadleaf
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Honduras and Nicaragua

Unfortunately, some of us have already had to bust out the snow shovels for some back-breaking work ahead of our morning commutes. If that’s the start of your workday, you’ll be ready to pounce on the first cigar you see upon your return home. Instead of smoking those same boring sticks, let these new VUDU blends melt away the misery.

At their price, you can sample them all to triple your satisfaction. And maybe hire that snow removal service, too!
