CA Report: Top New Cigars (Feb 3 2020)

If you’re swayed by superstition, Punxsutawney Phil might be your go-to rodent Nostradamus. I think I’ll stick with the weather guy because I don’t recall ever rocking shorts in February. Given that it’ll likely be cold if you’re venturing outside for a smoke, here are some new cigars at Famous Smoke Shop that will make an excursion into the elements worth your while.

This week, we’re featuring blends from Rocky Patel, Tatuaje, Asylum, and more. Check them out now and be sure to let us know which ones you’ll be trying in the comments below!

CIGAR SPOTLIGHT: OUR MUST-SMOKE CIGAR OF THE WEEK

Rocky Patel Number 6

Wrapper: Honduran Corojo
Binder: Honduras
Filler: Honduras and Nicaragua

Number 6 may seem like an arbitrary name, but Rocky Patel went with the working title – the cigar’s blend number – and after five misses, they landed on a hit. The profile exhibits an exceptional natural sweetness and is “totally different than anything we’ve ever put out,” said RP Exec. VP, Nish Patel. With notes of coffee, earth, sugary spices, and caramel, Number 6 smokes more like a candy bar than a cigar. Skip the extra calories after dinner. This is all the dessert you need.

Tatuaje Mexican Experiment II

Wrapper: Mexican San Andres
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

If you are calling in sick today for “Super Sick Monday,” use your time off wisely. Assess your humidor. I’ll wait…

Yeah, it’s probably looking a little bleak in there, but Tatuaje Mexican Experiment II can fix that. Waves of pepper, wood, coffee, earth, and spices will converge on your taste buds for a full-flavored splash of complexity. Add a fair price and expert construction, and it’s no mystery why Pete Johnson keeps turning heads. I hope you have more vacation time available because you’re going to want a day off to enjoy them, too!

Ilegal Tobaco by Hirochi Robaina

Wrapper: Ecuador Connecticut/Ecuador Habano/Mexican San Andres
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

Just when I thought I’d seen everything, there’s this. Ilegal Tobaco (Illegal Tobacco) is not exactly a subtle name, but it’s big on flavor in three wrapper choices. The Connecticut offers creamy cedar and wood, the Habano is spicy with nuts, citrus, and sweetness, and the San Andres gives off bold nuances of coffee, cocoa, and earth. Blended by Hirochi Robaina of La Familia Robaina, each has its own unique vibrancy. Smoke them in that order from morning to evening for fond memories of a cigar day well spent.

Crowned Heads Headley Grange Chamuco 2019 LE

Wrapper: Mexican San Andres Maduro
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? The limited-edition Headley Grange Chamuco (meaning Mexican pit bull) 2019 trades its Sumatra wrapper for a sultry Mexican San Andres Maduro. With plenty of bite, and notes of wood, earth, coffee, and spice, these cigars have all the pomp and circumstance you’d expect from Crowned Heads and cigar savant, Ernesto-Perez Carrillo. Bonus: this hound doesn’t need to be housebroken.
