CA Report: Top New Cigars (July 20 2020)

Sure is hot out there, eh? Trust me…you’ll be missing it once those icicles start making their way down the gutter. But for now, when the sun starts dipping toward the horizon, you’re going to want a few trusty sticks by your side to make the best of a midsummer evening with zero responsibilities. For that, I nominate these new cigars to the Famous humidor as well worth trying.

Blind Man’s Bluff Maduro

Wrapper: Pennsylvania Broadleaf
Binder: Indonesia Sumatra
Filler: Dominican Republic

Maybe it’s because I grew up a short drive from the tobacco fields in Lancaster County, but PA Broadleaf always held a special place on my palate. Blind Man’s Bluff Maduro is no exception. The smoke is lightly sweet and mixes flavors of earth, leather, cream, and nuts. Though the strength hovers over full, the cigar draws smooth, and the peppers don’t linger on the finish. This one’s much more about the experience and less about the kick.

AVO Maduro

Wrapper: U.S. Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic

This year, we’ve had to take a rain check on so many celebrations. Graduations. Holidays. Hell, most of summer itself to this point. Cigars are celebratory by their nature, and this AVO Maduro comeback is worth some pomp and circumstance. In each puff there’s coffee, sweetness, and an exquisitely smooth body. Why not splurge on yourself with a top-shelf smoke? I think you’ve more than earned it this year.

Bolivar Cofradia

Wrapper: Ecuador Sumatra
Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf
Filler: Honduras and Nicaragua

So…your boat sprung a leak right before annual fishing week. Looks like you’re going to have to hire Mr. Fixit to get the ol’ girl seaworthy again. Even with your freshly slashed cigar budget, you can still find some savory flavors in the cheaper seats. Check out Bolivar Cofradia. Its entrée of earthy spices, sweet wood, and peppers will have you doing a double take at the price…and smiling all the way up to the lake.
