Top New Cigars (May 29, 2023)

Fresh Cigars & Accessories from Romeo y Julieta, Caldwell, and Firebird!

All this nice weather has the grass in my yard looking like something out of Jurassic Park. I have plenty of iffy cigars to smoke while cutting it, but when I’m covered in clippings from the knees down and just want to relax—I’ll need a smoke with a little more panache.

In this week’s Top New Cigars, I’m reviewing two new cigar blends that are up to the task. First, the sequel to our most popular Romeo y Julieta, then a One Night Stand, and finally, an all-in-one lighter from Firebird with summer written all over it.

You bring the burgers—I’ll bring the beer. Join me for the latest cigar info you need to know!

Which new cigars are you smoking right now? Let me know in the comments below.

Romeo y Julieta House of Capulet Nicaragua

Wrapper: Nicaragua Habano 2000
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua (including Jalapa)

House of Capulet has been the most popular Romeo y Julieta at Famous for as long as I can remember. And now, it’s finally getting a long-awaited sequel. Romeo y Julieta House of Capulet Nicaragua turns up the spice by upgrading its Connecticut Shade wrapper to a Nicaraguan Habano 2000. Additionally, the Honduran filler has been replaced with zestier Nicaraguan leaves, making Capulet Nicaragua a puro blend. And Romeo’s best trick? They’ve done all this while keeping the cigar comfortably in the medium-body realm. Expect flavors of sweet tobacco, spices, oak, and roasted coffee bean, all with an earthy, floral finish.

Is Capulet Nicaragua better than the original? I’ll leave that verdict to your taste buds!

Firebird Trailblazer Lighter Combo

One thing that’s always annoyed me about grilling, or even camping with cigars, is the fact that I always need to bring two lighters. One to light my cigars. And one long enough (usually some cheapo gas station hack job) to reach the coals or kindling without requiring an impromptu trip to the ER. Firebird’s new Trailblazer lighter does both! With a large jet torch and a gooseneck extension that can be bent into the most awkward and inconvenient of spaces, the Trailblazer is a one-stop shop for all your lighter needs. Grills, campfires, cigars of all sizes…hell, even your better half will be borrowing it to light her candles. But I’ll let you take the credit for such a great idea. You’re welcome!

Caldwell Lost & Found One Night Stand

Wrapper: Dominican Republic
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic

Seems to me that One Night Stand is a terrible name for this cigar. When I think of what a one-night stand means, I think…once and done. I think about poor decisions. Mostly, I think about looking over my shoulder in a hungover stupor at 4:30 a.m. shrieking, “My God, what have I done?!”

Caldwell’s One Night Stand, however, is too good for just one smoke. Notes of cedar, cocoa, and a dollop of spices keep this medium-bodied burner lip-smackingly satisfying from toast to nub. And hey…at least you don’t have to sneak out of the house in your underwear once you’re done.
