I ordered this on a lark....the price was right. I wasn t disappointed. I generally enjoy AJ Fernandez cigars. The cigar burns consistently with a light flavor...it pairs nicely with my Bodhi Leaf Sumatra coffee in the morning. This cigar is my new favorite and go-to daily stick right next to the Inferno Melts.
Well constructed, good bite and dry flavor, Im very happy with the complexity and balance of this cigar. IT gets better after each re light and good until the very end. For the money is a Fine Cigar and will always have space in my humidor.
This fantastic offering comes from AJ Fernandez. I let my Pantheon Toro sampler pack rest for 2 weeks in a well established 68RH/70DF humidor. the first of the Pantheon line to find my meddling fingers was the Oceanus. The 1st thing I noticed was the heavy weight of this toro size stick. The Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper was velvety smooth and a deep, rich brown, almost Rosado color. The seams were invisible and there were minimal noticeable veins. The humidor smell was mainly cedar, with that almost sweet musty aged tobacco. Hints of spice were noticeable and the foot was of rich cocoa. The cigar was firm, with perfect resistance when gently pinched. The cut was with a V-cutter, so not to compromise the draw in case it was too loose. With the cut done, the cold draw was perfect and had the same palate notes as noted in the humidor smell. The light came off perfectly with toasting done with a single jet flame and the light coming from a soft flame. Initial draw was a bit confusing, the flavors seemed a bit muted as I admired the foot smoke and the large amount of draw smoke. My second draw revealed the familiar AJ signature sweet wood and pepper blast, bringing a wide smile to my lips. There was a light, sweet oil left on the lips as the finish brought flavors of cedar and an undistinguishable sweetness to my palate. I continued into the 1st Third and the flavors blossomed. The cigar warmed and there was distinctness of sweet wood cedar and the pepper began to wane. I struggled to identify the sweetness which was almost caramel. It dawned on me that it was the old school caramel taste that I remember from the Mexican candies from my childhood. The dolce de leche from my abuela s kitchen was exactly what was on the finish of this cigar. Thick creamy plumes of smoke now filled my cheeks and the smile the memory brought did not wane throughout the time spent with this stick. The 2nd Third brought shifts in flavor profile and some new flavors as well. The cedar did not leave but was pushed back by leather and mild spice. The smooth cream flavor picked up and stayed in front through the rest of the cigar. The last 3rd continued to mirror the flavors in the 2nd, with the leather going away and the pepper picking up a bit behind the band point. Overall this is a budget stick with a top shelf attitude. I hope the rest of the Pantheon line follows in suit with bang for the buck performance. Total smoke time on this fine stick was right at 2 hours, but I am a very slow smoker and try to keep the cherry at a minimal temp. The pairing of Jameson Irish Whiskey brought out the flavors as well. I consider this to be highly recommended. I do note I noticed the review of the robusto size Oceanus, and have my doubts as to whether it is accurate.
Not to my liking. Taste and burn left a lot to be desired
