Powstanie cigars are the creation of two Polish-American brothers, Mike and Greg Szczepankewicz, owners of a retail cigar store in Deltona Florida, who developed the brand with the help of Esteban Disla and Skip Martin at Fabrica de Tabacos NicaSueño S.A., known for producing RomaCraft Cigars. Pronounced poh-shan-yah, the Polish word for "uprising," that theme is carried through the brand's logo, which includes symbols used by the Polish Resistance during World War II.
The cigars are made with outstanding handcraftsmanship and presented in two blends - one from brother Mike - Powstanie Habano - with a core of Dominican criollo, Nicaraguan Estelà ligero, plus tobaccos from Condega and Jalapa, bunched in an Indonesian binder, and rolled in an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. The smoke is medium to full in body, leaning more towards full, with base flavors of earth, wood, and dark chocolate on a short, clean finish.
Brother Greg's blend - Powstanie Maduro - consists of Estelà ligero, with other Nicaraguan filler tobaccos from Jalapa and Condega's Pueblo Nuevo region, plus an Indonesian binder, rolled in a dark, oily Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. Expect an exceptionally creamy, medium-full smoke with base notes of earth, leather, pepper, and sweet cedar with plenty of Nicaraguan spice to go around.
