Rocky Patel Vintage 1999 cigars are a medium-bodied premium selection that has become a hit with cigar smokers 'round the world. Each Rocky Patel Vintage 1999 Minis 10/10 cigar has a perfectly-balanced blend of Dominican & Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos - all aged 7 years - highlighted by a fragrant 1999 vintage Connecticut wrapper. The cigars are aged 120 days after rolling, and unlike the Rocky Patel Vintage '90 & '92, are NOT box-pressed. A sensationally smooth, toasty, and sweet-tasting cigar that hits on all cylinders.
I enjoy just about everything from Rocky Patel but particularly more mild to mild-med and this is a nice balance of flavor and strength. The Vintage 1990 Junior claims to be medium but I find it a touch stronger than that. These are toasty and definitely the most flavorful Connecticut cigar I ve had, a perfect companion to coffee. As a comparison, these are the same size and price nearly as Avo Puritos, which are also excellent but far more mild and creamier. My one and only complaint is that wonderful, open Rocky Patel draw isn t quite there but it s also not a difficult or tight draw, so hopefully it s just an off tin. If you like a bit more zest in your Connecticut smoke I would highly recommend these, especially if you like a shorter smoke during the day that picks up and re-lights perfectly all the way to the nub.
This is a decent cigar in every sense. The wrapper is not the most attractive with darker spots all over, the filler is clearly cut outs from long fillers used for other cigars not a bad thing per se , the construction is a bit sloppy but ok, the draw is pretty good for a cigar of this size and the flavors are mild and pleasant in the first half with more pepper in the second half but not overly complex. At $1.70 per little stick this is pretty good but I m not sure it make a lot of sense. Each time I think of lighting one up I find myself wondering whether I m not better off waiting and lighting a bigger cigar that will have better construction and flavors.
