Description

Stolen Throne Castle 919 Belicoso Fino is more of a new kid on the block, but there’s a lot of history behind this boutique blend. This stout 5x54 size is commonly referred to as ‘Short Torpedo’ to simplify its existence in cigar shops and magazines, and in American English in general. But there’s so much more to it than that: this ‘Belicoso Fino’ size gained notoriety when Bolivar launched their original (actually a 5 ½ x 52) in Cuba back at the turn of the 20th century. A contrast to the Perfecto that was more popular at the time, this Beli caught on fast, known for its distinct shape, ease of cut, and full-bodied flavor profile. It has since become one of the most emulated shapes throughout cigar culture and history. Even until today - which brings us to the Castle 919 version.

Castle 919 is the TRUE Belicoso Cigar

Channeling my inner cigar nerd, I’ll declare this to be a true belicoso shape, which tapers softly to form more of a hump at the head of the cigar instead of a clearly sharp point like a Torpedo or Piramide. (Think of house roof versus church steeple and search for ‘cigar shape chart’ online. You’ll see what I mean.) I only point this out to show that Noel Rojas and the Stolen Throne crew stayed true to their objective and delivered a commemorative cigar on several levels.

Handcrafted Boutique Cigars at Rojas

If you look closely at this bullet shaped ode to patriarchy, you’ll first note the simple black and white band with 919 emblazoned in thick black font with the Castle of Essex (England) shadowing the background. All of it is artwork symbolizing Lee Marsh’s upbringing in a Baltimore suburb. Peeling off the label, you get to the good stuff. A shiny smooth Nicaraguan Habano Claro wrapper covering a weighty puro filled with all kinds of Central American stuffing to please your palate. If details matter to you, Nicaraguan binder with Nicaraguan and (for the first time at Stolen Throne) Peruvian fillers to take its flavor back to early 20th century Cuba.

All things considered, this cigar is worth way more than the time you spend reading about it. And it tastes better than I can ever describe it. Pricewise, it’s in line with what the premium cigar market is asking for a premium of this caliber. If you’re a true cigar connoisseur, there’s really no reason to look away.
