CA Report: Top New Cigars (Dec 21 2020)
Deck the humidor with new cigars fa-la-la…sorry. Got carried away there. It’s certainly a magical time of year, made even better by a smooth, tasty stick and a warm, crackling fire. And then even better-er by the notion that the dumpster fire that’s been 2020 is a mere few days from ending. It’s a win-win combo, so settle into your chair and check out this edition of Top New Cigars with fresh arrivals from Crowned Heads, Davidoff, and ACE Prime – a trifecta we sure wouldn’t mind finding under our tree.

Mil Dias by Crowned Heads
Wrapper: Ecuador Habano
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua, Peru, Costa Rica
Still waiting for all those “arriving late” packages? At this point, getting them before next Christmas would be a win, but it is what it is. I’d rather find something to be happy about and smoking a Mil Dias by Crowned Heads is top of my list. Sweet spices, wood, caramel, and citrus combine for the full-flavored bliss Crowned Heads is famous for. With so much out of your control this season, you can still control what you smoke. My money says you’ll love this.
Luciano the Dreamer
Wrapper: Ecuador Habano Corojo ‘99
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua and Peru
What do ACE Prime Cigars, Crowned Heads, and NBA players, Tiago Splitter and Dominique Wilkins have in common? Luciano. I find the profile is woody, nutty, and comes with a good helping of peppers. For those of you who like their porridge ‘just right,’ the cigar has a creamy medium body and sports exotic spices on the finish and retrohale. I guess you could say that it’s a slam dunk for your humidor (*ducks from the shoe you just tossed*).
Davidoff Year of the Ox
Wrapper: Dominican
Binder: Ecuador
Filler: Nicaragua
Wanna celebrate this awful year being shown the door? Consider Davidoff Year of the Ox, an incredibly delicious big-ring 6” x 60 that’ll last well into the new year once the ball drops. There are notes of dark cocoa, roasted coffee, cream, cedar, and opulent spices. Full disclosure…it’s decidedly on the pricier side, but I look at it this way: we can only kick 2020 to the curb once. Might as well go all-in!
