CA Report: Top New Cigars – Ferio Tego Edition (May 30, 2022)
Ferio Tego brings back classic Nat Sherman Cigars
…and a side of Random Cigar Thoughts.
Grabbing some last-minute relaxation with one of my old standby premium cigars—a Fuente 858 maduro if anyone’s asking—while listening to some tunes. It’s the calm before the Memorial Day cookout storm that’s about to descend upon mi casa.
Take Me to the River by the Talking Heads comes on and my mind takes flight and wanders on to other great cover songs. The ones that took on a life of their own while honoring the spirit of the original. Like Me and Bobby McGee, All Along the Watchtower, and With a Little Help from My Friends (by Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Joe Cocker respectively). That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though. I could ramble on and on, but this is an article about cigars. So, what about cigars and cover tunes?
Well, Drew Estate’s Undercrown is famously a ‘cover’ of the super-premium Liga Privada No. 9, and Crowned Heads Juarez is an affordable tribute to their rich and delicious Jericho Hill line. Then we have Ferio Tego—the new premium cigar brand rising from the ashes of Nat Sherman. This upstart company debuted with 2 first-rate originals—Elegancia and Generoso—before bringing back the best of the Nat Sherman catalog. And it’s these revitalized blends that are the focus of this edition of Top New Cigars.
Have you enjoyed a new cigar that you think should be on our must-smoke list? We’d love to hear from you! Please give us the details in the comments below!
Metropolitan Selection Cigars
With Nat Sherman’s fall, came Ferio Tego’s rise. Helmed by former Nat Sherman employees Michael Herklots and Brendan Scott, who bought the rights to the cigar portfolio but not the name, Ferio Tego Metropolitan Selection are basically the same cigars made by the same factories using the same names and sizes. In fact, many of these best-selling blends are over 25 years old.

Metropolitan Host hits the sweet spot. With a silky Connecticut wrapper over punchier Honduran long fillers, this blend provides a mellow, balanced, and smooth experience with notes of cedar, earth, and cream with some subtle spiciness. Timeless Collection Cigars
Timeless was the first cigar Michael Herklots worked on after joining Nat Sherman and the lineup continues to hold a special place in his heart. Like with the Metropolitan Selection, the blends are the same as the original cigars and the packaging is almost identical, except for a new secondary band reading, “Exclusively for Ferio Tego.”

In the past, Timeless Panamericana was one of most popular Nat Sherman blends, and it’s now available to the masses under the Ferio Tego banner. This modern-day classic was originally an exclusive cigar for the Nat Sherman Townhouse in New York City before being offered only by the TAA (Tobacconists’ Association of America). Medium to full bodied and loaded with flavors including pepper, cedar, leather, wood, and caramel sweetness.
