Punch Dad Bod Cigar Review (Video)

Sexy? No. Tasty? Yes.

For Father’s Day 2023, Punch Cigars launched the Punch Dad Bod cigar. The shape of the cigar is alleged to reflect the physique of Dads who prefer lifting beers over barbells. Presented in beer-can canisters of five cigars and 4-packs of 20 cigars, (Boveda packs included), the packaging may have a kitschy, novelty vibe, but Punch created the Dad Bod with a good-natured tongue planted firmly in cheek.

“We created this special expression and packed it in tins that own the soft-in-the-middle physique with pride,” said Punch brand manager, John Hakim. “Dad Bod is about showing our support for the salt-of-the-earth Punch smokers who continue to make Punch their go-to brand.”

Adorned with a cigar band tie, if the Punch Dad Bod looks familiar, that’s because they are crafted in the popular Punch “Champion” format. The difference here is that Dad Bod has a more ambitious six nation blend.

Punch Dad Bod Cigar Review

The Punch Dad Bod had excellent construction, a clean-looking wrapper, and despite the cigar’s odd shape, it felt firm throughout. The cap cut cleanly, too, offering a very good draw with nutty and slightly sweet tobacco flavor. The question was, do I light it with the tie on or off? (Actually, I did, but I don’t recommend it.) Once lit, the smoke issued a creamy mouthfeel with a sweet tobacco taste. The cigar also got off to a nice even burn, as wood and leather flavors ensued.

Medium in body, the cigar was smooth, round, and maintained its woody-leathery flavor spiked with sweet tobacco. The ashes held on well, and at the cigar’s fattest part I got a tart, sourdough bread-like note. This note joined a well-balanced mix of sweet tobacco, cedar, and leather flavors.

As the cigar narrowed in ring gauge, the smoke held on to its medium body while slightly starting to build in intensity. The profile turned a little darker, less sweet, and spicier. Then, at its narrowest, the sweet tobacco reemerged.

The last two inches marked the beginning of the end as some bitterness entered the picture. However, after resting the cigar a minute or two, the Dad Bod sweetened up for another sweet-spicy inch, leaving me with a satisfying finale.

Was Punch Dad Bod Weekend Worthy?

I tried to see past the novelty side of the Punch Dad Bod. Take away the tacky tie and you’re looking at a very solid and impressive cigar. I liked the Cameroon wrapper, not to mention the multi-nation blend, and think about this: It takes a lot of skill to get six different tobaccos to play nicely, so, you gotta give props go to the blenders and rollers at HATSA.

As far as drink pairings go, Dad Bod was excellent with coffee, but I can see pairing it with a good Lager or a lighter whiskey. You don’t want to overpower the cigar’s flavor profile with anything too heavy.

If you’re thinking of giving Dad a canister of Punch Dad Bod for Father’s Day, most Dads will probably smile broadly at first and appreciate more it later. It's well-made, it's not strong, it’s got good flavor, and if you like odd or unconventional cigars, Dad Bod is a natural must-have.
