"Dissapointed"

Everything about this cigar is great, except for the earthy aftertaste. The smoke is very mild, easy to light, good over all construction, great burn, and consistent draw. I just can't get over the aftertaste, it really ruins all the great attributes. I would not buy this cigar again. less

"Bad on all accounts... except one."

I can't believe such a lousy cigar can taste so good. Here's a list of the bad traits: Gum paste smeared on the wrapper, holes and leaks, patches in the wrapper that should have made them seconds, that ridiculous closed foot never lights straight, it's not really a perfecto, it's just a just a parejo (Corona Gorda, to be specific) with a closed foot, they sell it as a 6" cigar, but it smokes a half-inch or more shorter than that, tight-ish draw, low smoke volume, etc, etc. But the taste... You take the bad with the good on this one, but for me, that sweet buttery taste makes it all worth while. less

The incomparable Fuente Hemmingway series in an outstanding small Perfecto that is just right for after lunch, when you don't have time to get into a larger smoke, before returning to work. In the 23 years that I have been enjoying cigars, I have yet to come across a problem with a Hemmingway Short Story. less

I had hurd about Arturo Fuentes but couldn't understand all the fuss until I tried the Hemingway master Peace. Rich tasting smoke with a bit of spice. The spice doesn't over power the natural richness of the tobacco, excelent distinct aroma and smoke every time. Richness improoves with aging. A great one for any level cigar smoker. less

I used to smoke these in the 90's (when I could find them) and loved the complexity and after taste. Just purchased a 5 pack after a 10 year abstance and was dissapointed --- just not what I remembered. Still a nice smoke, but I prefer the "Work of Art" & Between the Lines" (when I can find them) less

"An Excellent Cigar"

I had been a fan of the AF 858 when a good friend gave me several Hemingways to try out. Until that time, I had heard about the Hemingway but I had never tried one. Wow, was I favorably impressed! The draw was smooth and even. And the taste was absolutely wonderful. I thought I had found my "favorite cigar". Not long thereafter, my friend gave me several AF Don Carlos' to try. I was equally amazed. While the taste was more complex and totally different from the Hemingway, I'm having difficulty determining which is my favorite. I still like the 858 for an "everyday" cigar, but I keep a supply of Hemingway and Don Carlos for those special times when I need to fully de-stress, and just kick back and escape. less

"Like a good story, great over and over again"
This truly great perfecto is a perfect exampl... more
This truly great perfecto is a perfect example of why size does not always matter. Do not let this vitola's diminutive size fool you; it is full of rich, complex flavors and aromas. When you light the Shortstory's nipple, subtle and enticing hints of mild, sweet tobacco arouse your senses like the opening chapter of a great classic novel. As the beautiful white ash continues down the length of the perfecto, the flavors begin to crescendo gradually until, at the widest circumference, the cigar hits a climax of strong earthy cinnamon spice, cedar wood, and hints of leather and black cherry. Past the widest part, the cigar mellows a bit becoming softer and milder. But just like a surprise twist in a good story, this cigar's plot thickens with a second burst of spicy flavor. The finish goes from full to medium with a satisfying and gentle, refined ending. Like a good book, it is hard to put down. This cigar is a true knuckle burner; it is not till the last inch or so that it's flavor starts to become tart. Unfortunately, all good stories have to come to an end, but this is definitely one you won't mind picking up again and again. The construction on these difficult-to-roll cigars is immaculate, impeccably consistent, and have an excellent draw. Despite the occasional sun spot or cosmetic blemish, these cigars are great ambassadors of the Hemingway line and proudly demonstrate and defend AF's reputation for quality construction. A true classic, an unbeleivable bargain, and, as a thirty minute smoke, perhaps the ultimate anywhere, anytime cigar. less

"I feel I've been taken....robbed, really"
In looking for a mild upscale smoke to round ... more
In looking for a mild upscale smoke to round out a small cigar list for a Resort Hotel, the AF Hemingway- Monti Cristo White Label #2 seemed to be logical choices to compare head to head, with the winner making the list.
The MC had perfect construction and draw, looked great, but had less taste than an ultra lite cigarette....as in NO TASTE WHATSOEVER. What a joke, unfortunately the joke was on me.
The AF Hemingway should have and probably would have beat it hands down except for the fact that it was plugged so badly, I could hardly get a taste at all. It also had some flaws in the wrapper that I didn't notice through the plastic that should never have made it past quality control. At this price point, that is totally unacceptable.
With production numbers in the 25+ Million, it seems that the Fuentes are focusing too much on quantity and too little on quality, as others have experienced similar construction issues here.
When I spend this kind of money on a stick, I expect at least a smokable product....and with the excellent line up of cigars on the market today (many of which are half the price of the Fuente, why should I bother to give them a second chance? Are they gonna give me my money back on that sad excuse they pawned off on me the first time?
I say, don't waste your time....try something else. There's a lot better for a lot cheaper out there that deserve the business. Leave this for the name brand junkies who seem happy to pay premium prices for substandard quality just because it's a "Hemingway". less
