The CAO Flathead V23 follows in the wake of CAO’s V19, V21, and V60 cigars by way of the Gordo-sized MK1 660. Why the number? It has to do with the 100th anniversary of the annual Le Mans 24-hour car racing classic. The MK1 name was inspired by Ford’s GT40 MK1 car which, during the 1960s, kept the Le Mans trophy out of Ferrari’s hands for three years in a row.
As you might expect the V23 is a high torque, full-bodied smoke. The 6”x60 vitola is handcrafted in limited-edition with a well-balanced blend of select Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers, Nicaraguan binder, and a dark, leathery Honduran wrapper. The result is a bold yet nuanced cigar that issues a mix of earth, spice, toasty notes, and more. Presented in a box of 20 cigars, the packaging features the Ford/Gulf orange and black racing colors and under the lid is a nod to the GT’s tufted leather seats.
Virtually as much a pleasure to smoke as the GT40 MK1 is a pleasure to drive, the CAO V23 puts the peddle to the metal at a very fair price. Add this must-smoke cigar to your cart before it speeds off the shelf.
