L'Atelier La Mission cigars present a savory new creation from Pete Johnson, the man behind some of the best Nicaraguan cigars ever made – so good that the blend bagged the #4 Cigar of the Year spot in 2020. Wrapped in a dark, oily, and pig-tailed Mexican San Andrés Morron wrapper, the core boasts Nicaraguan fillers from the García family farms, including some Sancti Spiritus leaf grown in Ecuador, a Criollo & Pelo de Oro hybrid that lends a marvelous complexity to the blend. Presented in 3 shapes, which Johnson says are a take on the Cuban Cohiba Behike BHK trio released in 2010, the smoke is medium-full with notes of earth, sweet wood, spice and a wonderful aroma. I ve only smoked one La Mission L atelier 1959. Aficionado says it is 95 but I think it is more like 94 or 93. I will have to smoke one again today. No matter I like it.
A jewel of a cigar that is a steal at it s price point. This is without a doubt, my favorite cigar when matched up with a Pinot or a Merlot.I could name about another 6 or so wines this puppy would match up to also. The flavors of anise, dark berries, subtle spice and dark chocolate just come through solidly and open up a good red wine. The burn is very good, draw is good and consistent from cigar to cigar.I ve gone through 2 boxes so far and each box has been identical in performance. There are three brands I always keep in my humidors.Padron, Melanio V and L atelier La Mission 1959...
Excellent complex flavors. I find this particular size to be the best. Burn, construction, consistency and draw all are exactly what one desires in a cigar. Definitely box worthy.
Latelier makes some really good cigars and this one was no exception to this, very tasty and burnned great all the way through.
I bought two boxes because CA gave these a 95 rating, there were two 5-star reviews, and I thoroughly enjoy the 1989 5-5/8x54. What terrible cigars these are! 15 of the first box were under-filled, harsh, and bitter. I only smoked half of the second box, 6 of 9 were under-filled, harsh, and bitter as well. I can t smoke any more of these! What do the good ones taste like? A NASTY taste, not harsh and bitter, just NASTY.
