Christian Luis Eiroa grew-up in one of the most famous Cuban tobacco-growing families. In the late 1800's, his grandfather, Generoso Eiroa, left Spain to work in Cuba as a boat captain for the Cuban Land and Leaf Company, and settled in Pinar Del Rio where he bought 33 acres of farmland for growing tobacco.
In 1961, his father, Julio, fled Cuba after the Bay of Pigs invasion, and following his military service in Korea, took a job processing tobacco for the Oliva Tobacco Co. in Honduras. Soon, Julio was growing his own crops in Honduras and building business relationships within the industry. This led to the Eiroa family's first cigar company, Caribe Imported Cigars, which became the distributor for La Fontana, National Brand, and Baccarat cigars.
In 1995, the year Christian entered the family business, the Eiroa's purchased the Camacho Cigar Co., and in 2000 they reintroduced the authentic Corojo seed to the U.S. market. As Christian tells it, Camacho Corojo was "the cigar that brought full-bodied blends back to life."
After 13 years of success under the Camacho Cigar Co. banner, in 2008 Davidoff purchased the company and Christian went off on his own to found CLE Cigars, which has earned the highest praise from both the cigar media and consumers.
CLE Corojo cigars continue the family tradition of using only the best Corojo tobaccos by producing a puro of stunning character and flavor. Using a perfectly-balanced blend of all-Honduran tobaccos rolled in 100% authentic Corojo-seed wrappers, the smoke offers a medium-full profile dominated by earthy-woody flavors with a distinctive sweetness for a magnificently smooth, rich, and complex taste.
CLE Connecticut cigars use a Honduran longfiller and binder core, which sets the stage for this medium-bodied blend wrapped in a beautiful blonde Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade leaf. The smoke is well-balanced with an array of creamy, woody and citrusy flavors. This is one of the best cigars for new smokers seeking a satisfying smoke with just the right amount of mellowness.
CLE Cuarenta cigars offer a full-flavored puro handcrafted with a medium-bodied blend of Honduran tobaccos finished in a savory Habano wrapper. The journey begins with a shot of peppery spice, rounding out to a creamy ride loaded with flavors of sweet cedar, cocoa, exotic spices, and more, for a smoke of decidedly complex proportions.
CLE Plus cigars are imbued with the rich, earthy flavor of rich-tasting Honduran tobaccos enhanced by the savoriness of thoroughly-aged Corojo leaves. These puros deliver the adrenaline-surging rush of a 400 ft. drop roller coaster that culminates in a smooth, creamy, and perfectly-balanced landing, thereby, begging the question, "Can CLE top itself with another awesome blend?" You bet!
CLE Signature Series cigars are artisan-style, limited edition cigars made in Miami by only three rollers. Although the production is tiny, the attention to detail is enormous. Made with an undisclosed blend, and presented "cabinet style" (without bands), the smoke is medium-bodied, and more complex than a Rube Goldberg machine. These are not cheap cigars, but they are worth the investment. And when you taste what's gone into making this labor of love, you'll sing its praises.
"We're not following any of the new popular trends you're seeing today," says Christian. "We focus solely on going out of our way to find tobaccos you don't get to taste daily or regularly, and guarantee our blends will be like no others out there."
