Tabacalera Palma may not be a household name - yet. But it should be, and we fully expect it will be, in very short order. Housed in the Dominican Republic, Tabacalera Palma is home to Jose Arnaldo "Jochy" Blanco, whose tobacco fields and skilled rollers have been the source for highly-rated Dominican boutique cigars: Aging Room, SWAG and more for Rafael Nodal's Boutique Blends, as well as Senorial for cousin Jose Blanco, among others. But now it's Jochy's moment in the spotlight, now making some of the Dominican's finest smokes under his own brand.
The Blanco Dominican tobacco lineage began with Jose Manuel Blanco Lozada, a Spaniard who traded tropical fruit, cocoa beans and deli meats; but it was tobacco that became the family specialty. Tabacalera Palma would eventually be formed by the third Blanco generation in 1925, as one of the original cigar manufacturers in the DR.
Tabacalera Palma cigars were, at first, only produced for the local Dominican market. But as his factory's cigars were rolled with the best tobacco from the fields of the Cibao Valle, Jochy found an eagerly receptive market for his cigars around the world.
Today, Tabacalera Palma sits on Santiago's outskirts, in Tamboril, crafting cigars for some of the biggest names in the cigar world - and now their first cigars are among them, named La Galera. Quality rules over quantity, with Tabacalera Palma cigars continuing to make exquisite smokes that showcase that smooth and buttery Dominican cigar flavor. Try a box today and see!
