Oscar Valladares Cigars

In 2012, Oscar Valladares, his brother Hector, and friend Bayron Duarte opened a small factory in Danlí, Honduras, under the Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co. label. Oscar had spent nine years with Rocky Patel, while Bayron brought over 20 combined years from General Cigar and Oliva. A year earlier, Oscar ran a modest cigar shop in Danlí with a couple of rollers, but by late 2011, the trio purchased their own facility and began crafting cigars wrapped in dried tobacco leaves—a rustic nod to ancient Mayan tradition.

The Leaf by Oscar line caught fire almost immediately. Island Jim, a Pittsburgh retailer, visited the factory and legally brought home 1,000 cigars. They sold out within a week. The remaining 4,000 followed within a month. Demand kept climbing, but Jim recognized Oscar's work deserved broader recognition. Together, they refined the brand and expanded distribution, cementing Leaf by Oscar as a hit defined by its rough-hewn packaging and the beauty of the cigars underneath.

Oscar Valladares blends showcase Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos in creative, often bold combinations. From the original Leaf by Oscar wrapped in tobacco leaves to Island Jim collaborations and limited releases, the portfolio reflects Oscar's willingness to experiment while maintaining quality. The factory in Danlí has grown into a respected operation, producing a range of blends that balance innovation with traditional craftsmanship.

Whether exploring the core Leaf by Oscar series or diving into collaborations like Island Jim, smokers encounter cigars that prioritize character and value. Oscar's background with major brands translates into meticulous construction and thoughtful tobacco selection, while the independent factory allows creative freedom. The result is a portfolio that appeals to both adventurous smokers and those seeking reliable, well-made cigars with personality.
