Padron Cigars
The Padrón name sends a pulse through every serious cigar enthusiast. Hallmark to the brand: Cuban-seed Nicaraguan tobaccos aged between 2½ and 10 years, producing four of the most sought-after lines on the market. Complexity and consistency define every Padrón cigar, crafted in limited annual production to keep flavor at its peak.
The Padrón family legacy dates back over a century to Cuba. When 36-year-old Jose fled to Miami in 1962 as a refugee, he took up carpentry with a hammer and a dream: save enough to "open a factory to make great cigars, like the ones we used to smoke in Cuba." Two years later, with $600, Padrón Cigars Miami opened its doors. Today, the company controls every step—from planting tobacco seedlings to final quality checks—ensuring the strict consistency that fuels the brand's rabid following.
Four lines comprise the Padrón portfolio, each earning near-fanatical devotion. The Padrón Series (also called the "Numbered Series") includes the 2000, 3000, 7000, and "A" sizes. Medium to full-bodied, these cigars use tobaccos aged at least 2½ years and come in natural or maduro wrappers across 15 sizes and shapes.
Best Padrón Cigar Brands
The luxury lines carry serial numbers on their bands—not just for show, but as proof of limited production and authenticity. Padrón cigars are counterfeited nearly as often as Cubans, making those numbers crucial verification.
The Padrón 1964 Anniversary debuted in 1994 to commemorate the company's 30th anniversary. Full-bodied and box-pressed, it offers 11 sizes in sun-grown natural and maduro wraps. The tobacco ages four years before rolling, delivering complexity, smoothness, and that signature Padrón pepper.
Released in 2001 for Jose's 75th birthday, the Padrón 1926 Serie showcases 5- to 10-year-aged Nicaraguan tobacco in a full-bodied, box-pressed format. Highly regarded for balance and flavor, it represents the pinnacle of the family's traditional blending approach.
Padrón's Family Reserve cigars are the most recent addition and the cream of the crop. Made with extensively aged Nicaraguan tobaccos (10 years or more), these super-premiums were once the family's private stash. They represent the absolute best Padrón has to offer.
Padrón Family Legacy
Jose Padrón still keeps the hammer he used as a carpenter—it's now part of the company logo, a reminder of starting over and building something to support his family. Since 1964, Padrón has upheld its tradition of handmade cigars using Cuban-born recipes and techniques passed down through generations. The motto: "When Padrón is on the label, quality is a matter of family honor."
